Well there you have it. I am making a poll to see if anyone besides me thinks there should be more planets on Shattered Planes or if there should not be anymore.
-
YES.
I mean, with the fall of earth, there's nowhere else for normal stuff, or anywhere to do your own mini-plots without interruption or anything. At least a few unowned planets, and a few 'neutral' planets and stuff.
-
False Heaven serves as a neutral territory space station, as it isn't allied with anything if you're wanting that sort of thing. Doesn't the words "free lodging to any travelers/residents" mean anything? D}:
Of course, it'll shoot down any invaders that dare try to take it.
But yeah, I don't think we really should. Side plots can unfold on planets so long as the person just asks if their planet is or isn't hostile to foreigners. For example, a side plot for anyone can barely happen on Novier, because the Novierians will beat down any aliens/foreigners that enter the planet. Migaitt is the same way, as it pretty much tries to kill anything that lands on it.
On the other hand... ... um... well crap. Maybe there should be some unconquerable planets, but not any that should just be out there for the taking for anyone. Kind of like a starting place for people.
-
Well, yeah, there's false heaven...But thats a space station. Not everyone wants to be crowded on the same place...
And no matter where you are, there's gonna be the natives asking who the eff you are and wanting you off their lawnworld. People can be veeeeeery territorial, you know.
-

Alright, I get ya. Although False Heaven is as big as Jupiter I won't say that there should be planets for everyone to steal away and frikkin' cover it in technology capable of destroying everything, but just planets that people can go to without the entire frikkin' memberbase breathing down their spine about just being there. When I take one look at SP, I see a bunch of places that people own and won't give up. Some neutral places like False Heaven would be nice.
-
Yeah and so would some uninhabited worlds open for the taking. There currently are 0 worlds that are able to be taken without much of a resistance.

Ja...Even earth is hardly usable, what with Orph's freakin' Legion character murdering everything not native there, so I hardly see any places where we can have things done between just two characters. And not have to explain why they're there. XP
Uninhabited worlds just for taking...Not so much. I mean, other than worlds not naturally able to support life, which should be in abundance...But still. And even thats not really able until we get some terraforming tech. XP
-

He only wants uninhabited worlds because he is entirely unable to take a world himself.
-
I know. I want neutral worlds, so that we dont have to deal with planetary governments breathing down our necks when we wanna do something...
Im not saying worlds for concurring. They'd have defenses from that, and would be NPC'd by whoever wants to protect it if under siege. But at least a few planets where we can do something, and not have something trying to kill us outside of our own plot? False Heaven is a good start...But thats just one place, and it'd get kinda suspicious if everything happened there.
-
More planets are needed.
-
I have an idea...Pay Grunder to make you one...
-
Alright, here's my opinion.
Neutral worlds? Agreed. There needs to be places for business where people can be and not have to deal with empires breathing down their necks.
New Earth? We need one. False Heaven isn't the same thing, sorry.
Worlds up for the taking? Hell no. That will backfire. We could created rash of new worlds like what Hawk wants now, but they'll be conquered in no time, and we'll be right back in the same situation, making worlds over and ovr again until we have much to many to count. Hawk is only suggesting this for his own good.
My suggestion? For the good of the forum, we create and NPC empire. A switzerland, if you will. An empire not controlled by anyone, who won't side with anyone, who control multiple worlds that you can do things on, but have enough military might to defend their worlds.
Maybe they could have that New Earth.
I think this is the best wa of remedying the problem.
-
Well i had an idea...The Forerunners. An all powerful empire that has God abilities but doesnt side, fight or do anything to hinder gameplay...other than to defend the proposed neutral worlds...
-
My thinking exactly, just with a more powerful empire. I don't know, I don't think it should be impossible, just really difficult.
-

Sounds good enough.

Good job noticing the elephant in the room. :{D

That won't work. For some it would, but you can't change characters personality. And can't limit it as that would control said characters. You think if there's somewhere that controls all this land that characters are just going to leave it alone? Meet dictators. Think in the characters minds, they wouldn't just let that go. It'd be like the Alliance crap all over again. If somewhere is neutral but owns stuff, the characters can't just ignore it if it's in their personality not to.
That would be a form of metagaming.

Unless it was against the rules to even try to take them over. D}:
-
Nah. I like UnSteller's better.
They're planets...They aren't SUPPOSED to be unconquerable. All the same, having a good military force would work much better, since that deters would-be attacks that wouldn't be able to.
Since its a NPC faction, individual ships likely wouldn't need approval. This means that a reasonable amount of ships can guard each planet.
Making a God-Ability-People? That makes it impossible to even think about taking them...
Im not saying they should be taken over, one after the other. But dont make them un-take-overable.
Hik, you bring up a good point...But nobody said they'd have to be dictators. And just look at our worlds...Changes dont seem to happen much, and you dont generally see our characters going after OUR governments...So...
Maybe there's a bunch of different groups of governments? Maybe there's a alliance? All the point is, these are supposed to be places that we can go to without worrying about our characters being killed for stepping foot on the planet when we just needed somewhere the topic to occur at.
Making it against the rules would ALSO be metagaming, unfortunately.

It'd be metagaming.
We discussed this before on TPF.
We had it where make a limit of the tech that made it to where no empire could use offensively, but they said no. Because it would be OOC limiting which IC limits possibilities.
We CAN make it against the rules OOC. But IC, there is no rule. And if there were, characters would break rules, especially if that's their personality. Don't think this OOC.
Think of it purely IC. It doesn't work.
-
Hikaru, you're smart, creative people, there are easy solutions. What if they have very powerful ground forces, but are not capable of space travel? What if they had a curse afflicted in ancient days where they couldn't see other peoples worlds? What if they were just oblivious to outside forces?
We have ways of making it work.
-
Or, quite possibly, that they just didn't care enough to risk their own forces?
Not EVERYONE is an Empire, you know. And if they aren't a empire, then by definition, they aren't interested in expanding their borders. It works. ;D
-
No... you don't get it.
Okay. Let me give an example.
Say you build this NPC peaceful empire. They have little forces or strong forces. Neutral. Alliance or Loners. WHATEVER.
Let's look at the past of the RP, Sage Three to begin with.
Hikaru is rebellious, breaks any rule possible, doesn't care about people, and does whatever the hell she wants.
Do you REALLY think she's going to leave it said empire alone?
Now put this to any characters that are like that. Do you think they are?
And if you put an OOC rule on the board that says "Can't attack this world." That's OOC. The characters don't know OOC or it's metagaming.
Therefore said characters would STILL attack the neutral territory.
Back in the OK, the dictators had to agree not to attack borderline. But that was three people...and a few others. This time it's space-wide empires. Not everyone is going to agree. THAT'S why it fails.
Get it now?
-
How bout it has a curse on it that kills all that try to invade?
-
How bout it has a curse on it that kills all that try to invade?
That is beyond stupid. Curse would have to be godmodding potential. As characters don't die that easily, and if they did could come back.
-
...Then why hasn't she just gone and attacked everyone already, if thats her nature?
And Hik...The point of the matter is, they CAN be attacked, they just have a large military to aid them in such a case...
If she wants to attack, oh, sure, go ahead. See what we care. But thats her choice...
-
...I don't mean her. I mean she's a god damn example.
If you get a whole empire like her, in the same personality. There's going to still be war.
And pretty soon that place would either fall, get destroyed, or destroy others.
It wouldn't be neutral anymore.
And the stronger you build the military and make it unkillable. The more people would want to kill it, some characters and empires are just like that.
-
Ja, but that doesn't mean that it'd necessarily fall on the first attack. And since there would be anyone who cares to defending it, well, they'd be very adaptive.
The point is not keeping them neutral forever. Its getting a few neutral places so that we can even work out our own miniplots to develop our characters without a bunch of native military killing them for their poor choice in placing. >.>
-
People would still take it over.
The harder they fall or harder to fall, the more apt characters and empires are to want to MAKE them fall.
Neutral is impossible unless everyone IC agrees to it. Good luck there. *points out people hate one another.*
-
Jeez, people. I've tried submitting a post five times in a row and I keep getting the warning, topic updated thing, and have rewrite and resubmit. Ugh.
Hikaru, you're looking to much into this. Not EVERYONE is ALWAYS at war with each other, and for the most part, if you leave someone alone, they'll leave you alone, and since this NPC empire will leave everyone alone, they'll be left alone.
-
...The point is, they wont fall IMMEDIATELY. And of course they'll fall! Nothing's forever. And I dont think those empires really exist yet, since we dont have a perpetual war with everyone attacking everyone right now. Even the Anrufe is mild about its attacks, and so they dont attack very much. And they're the embodiment of what your saying.
These nations aren't supposed to last forever. Obviously. But they're supposed to act as neutral places while they DO last.
-

OOC, they'll leave alone. But not all characters will leave anyone alone. I'm trying to point out, that IC. Some characters will still go after it, and some empires as well. This may work OOC. But NOT IC, because of personalities. Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh.
-
*headdesk*
He just explained that we aren't already always at war with each other. So its metagaming that I dont have the Lorcar go out for bio-mass EVERY waking moment? Its metagaming that K2 doesn't have the Anrufe go out murdering everyone EVERY DAY?
Thats about what your saying, Hik.
Yes, they will get attacked. Yes, they will be defeated. But it doesn't necessarily mean it'll happen SOON.
-
Besides, if the having multiple worlds for this Governent idea is implemented (which it should, they should have multiple planets spread out a long the galaxies) If one falls, there will be more.
-
Besides, if the having multiple worlds for this Governent idea is implemented (which it should, they should have multiple planets spread out a long the galaxies) If one falls, there will be more.
And those will be taken as well.
Look at the Aralangs, everyone wants to kill them because they own too much.
Look at back in the Alliance. Everyone wanted to kill them because they tried to own everything.
The more this empire owns, the more of a target it would be.
-
Actually, the various empires that currently exist would jump at the chance to take a planet. If the Archive thinks the world has potential artifacts, they would destroy the current government and begin a search for the artifacts, that is if they resist anyway. The Japae would invade as they are an IMPERIALISTIC empire, the Relorians may have honor but they are in a situation were land is a precious resource, if it means conquering a neutral unallied empire, I doubt they would hesitate to save themselves. The Aralangs for all their morality and niceness are an imperialistic empire as well, although not as much this season.
This Galaxy is always at war red, although we may not constantly be in battle. War is here.
Although I do agree we need more planets, making some sort of rule were we cannot invade the planet is stupid. If a inhabited planet is created it will be attacked, if it's attacked by any empire with strength, it will fall. I wouldn't be surprised if it's attacked and invaded in the first topic, it's just how this damn RP works.
-
Hik...The Aralangs have TWO FREAKING TERRITORIES in the SP dimension...And one of them isn't even a planet. You guys are trying to go to war with them because of tech...
And all the point is that we need a few neutral territories so as to do anything at all with our non-empire characters...It doesn't even matter if they will be destroyed soon or not. Its not gonna be attacked as soon as its created. Just because it exists does not make them a bullseye. And like we've said...Its not like they'd be unprotected. >_>
-
OY. I got an idea to make this topic more productive.
Instead of simply arguing about this one idea, how about we start working together to brainstorm different methods that WILL work?
-
Against the current empires out there.. It doesn't matter if they were protected, and yes. They would be attacked RIGHT away, if lets say. Hawk's characters found one, he's starved for territory and would attack immediately.
And I already agreed, we need more planets, inhabited or not. I'm just telling him to not expect them to last long at all.
-
If they'll last long enough for some of us to use them without someone trying to tell the characters to get out, Im perfectly fine with it. I dont care how it works, so long as I wont have to worry about the native government killing my characters for being there, or otherwise clogging the storyline at its start.
-
And I've been completely ignored.
You're not going to get anywhere by focusing on any one idea at the moment. Instead, start brainstorming a list of ideas. Here, I'll even help you.
Look at the Outerverse. Can't get in through technological means. Try and take it over normally, and the land itself will kick your ass. Very difficult to take, and almost entirely neutral as it can't build things, since technology doesn't function in it. Perfect place for a group of mages to go to do a sideplot.
Make a place similar to it for technology-users, and guess what? You've got what you wanted. You've even got a place to start too, though it's not quite ready IC yet. For those who have no clue what I'm talking about, City of the Suvian(COTS) once the actual city is removed from the remainder of the planet.
There. Now we have two ideas. Anyone else want to contribute?
-
I didn't ignore you...I said I didn't care how it would work. As in, if we can find a way other than that, then that'd be fine by me. That merely seemed like the best idea at the time, as I couldn't think of anything else.
The only thing is, Outerverse is just that-Out of the SP-Verse. You need to know of its existence to go there. Guess what? Not a lot of my characters know of it, if any. :/
As for the CotS...That could work...But having just one place would be suspicious. Why would all these events occur at one spot? Thats the only problem with that.
-
Why would they occur there? Cause that's one the biggest and easiest place for it to occur. And I'd say the Outerverse is more well-known than you think, considering how important it's been in intergalactic history thus far.
-

Who said COTS is gonna be neutral? -.-
-
Its well known to the Empires that have been around for a while, yes. But individual characters who would have no knowledge of it, or even of areas outside of the dimensional place(such as mine) would have no knowledge of it, and even if they did, thats not to say they even could leave the dimension with their magic, as they'd have to know where it would be(thinking from a inter dimensional perspective, that is).
Just because your empire and other, older empires know of it doesn't mean that everyone knows of it, you know, least of all mine.
-
The Outerverse has been an important meeting place since the OK. That's at least a good thousand years. I'd say it'd be a pretty well-known place for anyone with even a moderate knowledge of the universe's history.
-
Depending on your character's alignment. I doubt humans from earth would have, nor would any of my other characters. In fact, the only characters I can think of out of mine with any possible knowledge of such a place would probably be Cero, and thats because his body is that of a Sage, and Null/Void, and thats because they're half-embodiments. None of my other characters would have any knowledge of it. Technically, Hikaru took Hiro, Flora, and Sara there, but they wouldn't have known where they were, so that doesn't count.
Just 'cause YOUR characters know of it, doesn't mean everyone else does.
-
Going along with the brainstorming idea...
We could have territories listed as 'aggressive' and 'passive.' This means nothing in warfare, but how the planet itself is towards any IC's. For example, say a person goes to a planet labeled as aggressive. That can mean quite a few things: Someone is going to pwn the crap out of them, or the inhabitants there will shot them down on sight, or any other likely situation. If a territory was labeled passive, on the other hand, tells whoever is interested in going there means they won't be frikkin' raped the moment they enter it. Of course, these signs are completely OOC unless ICs already have prior knowledge of their nature.
Now, again, these signs have nothing to do with warfare. I could have, say, False Heaven labeled as passive, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let frikkin' everything shoot me down; I would fight back. ={?
-
That idea actually does sound good to me. I have a few but will post them in about 8-9 hours tops when I wake up.
-
We could just add 'Dead Space' territories in every galaxy which refers to space in the galaxies, actual space. That would be an ideal location for meeting, and I doubt most empires are interested in taking over dead space areas.
-
isnt that why we have the "Other" Catagory?
