Deriving from the ancient belief that Prayers, when said backwards, were a curse. Fantasy has adapted this into almost a tradition in magic, that spells forward will represent normal magic, and said backwards will bring about dark magic/evil. I've always preferred to go by this, and use backwards spells for my evil characters, and forward for my good ones. Anyone else follow this, or just wing it?
As well as latin for some spells, or even made-up words. But most backwards here.
What's everyone elses spellery preference?
-
Well I do all of mine forward since writing backwards is harder. However if there are ones I don't want someone to know.. I will write them in a different language."
-
My spells vary. When the spells are chanted with names and such, traditionally I had my original character, K2323, use Guardian Magic. It had a particular format as follows:
!
Exclamation is important in the spell, to trigger it.
[Trigger Word]
The word with exclamation, usually the same word for each spell with some exceptions.
[Personal Word]
Each person when using this kind of magic has a word needed in the spell to make it work, unique to their persona.
[Spell Word(s)]
The words of the spell in Guardian Language.
So, for example:
!Ome Kal Fier Frok Drak Gree!
^What K2323 would say for a spell to make fire rise from the ground.
-
The only character I play that uses incantations much is Vincent, since he is on the darker side of magic.
Mostly backwards then forwards.
-
Most of my characters don't use incantations, and the Loreians don't need them at all, so them using incantations would be more for dramatic effect than anything. But, the few times I do use them, they're usually forwards and always in a different language, sometimes multiple languages in the same incantation.

I don't think the Bellicus need words. Magic is like a natural process, they don't need to stimulate it with words. This is my interpretation of your race, Hikaru, correct me if I'm wrong.
At this same token , I think it's impossible for them to master spell books that don't have magic already in them, and they can't master forms, like Hawk wanted Ben to learn Negion, an ability he can't do.

Yeah, you're right.
I was going to scrap the planet and race as a failed race. Since I kinda forgot what I had in mind for them.
So if you want to take it over or do something with it, go ahead.
