Title: Geris
Post by: Nisorin on June 23, 2009, 09:24:39 PM
A very old civilization, Geris has been using magic since the dawn of their time, mixing it with their tech around their 'industry age' and perfecting the hybrid. Utilizing them both, Geris has been able to break most of the laws of science, even down to the Law of Conservation, making damn near anything not only a possibility, but quite plausible.

Despite their heavily advance technological and magical achievements, Geris culture is still steeped with pagan beliefs and rituals, as well as heavy physical training. More recently, their studies have turned from how to manipulate the reality around them, to how it came to exist, to what created the first spark of life on their homeworld, and how to recreate that spark and seed other barren worlds.

A humanoid race, the Geris have always been a powerfully magical species, accounts of their spells going as far back as their tribal stages, wise men and women wielding untamed forces in rituals and battle. Since then they have come to love graceful, curving architecture and rich, powerful colors.

Their research into both science and magic has consisted of the 'light' side of the two, medical and constructive sciences and magics, as well as the darker side. Genetic experiments gone wrong still roam the half terraformed asteroids they were dumped on, and horrific failed magic and alchemical chimeras, even mixes of humans and beasts, roam with them. If they still live. Masters of both corruption and purity, as well as everything in between, the Geris is highly versatile and very adaptable.

Their language, Gersai, sounds much akin to a more exotic oriental language, and is taught even before the child can walk. Due to this, Geris-born people tend to have a full understanding of their language by the 9th year of academic schooling, allowing them to focus on other subjects for the following five mandatory years.

Geris culture is generally more relaxed than most. Where most civilizations frown upon, Geris usually will turn the other cheek, occaisionally even encourage. For example, just about every beach on the Geris homeworld is a clothing optional one, and children are taught to be proud of their bodies, however they may look.

Another large difference is that, to the Geris, men and women are just about the same, the only difference being the obvious bodily ones. This has held true even since their tribal days, where many civilizations would be outraged that they were defeated by an army with both male and female warriors.

On the homeworld and those around it, semiprecious crystals are extremely plentiful, making even the commoners look like the nobles of other civilizations, while materials such as diamond are much more rare. Many of their weapons are decorated with them, as are their clothing. Some of the ship weapons even use them as focusing lenses and the like.

Technology:
Ships:
Gerai: A spike-shaped fighter with barrier wings for terrestrial flight. Equipped with a shaped charge launcher, and 20 bolt Gerso weapon system. Very light, so it is easily maneuvered even at extremely high speeds, the Gerai is a similarly lightly armored vehicle, relying mostly on its shielding and agility to survive.

Arias: A large cruiser-role ship wielding a total of twenty 30 bolt Gerso weapon systems. Contrary to the usual Geris style, Arias ships are extremely heavily armored, using advanced anti-gravity technology for terrestrial combat. Beyond the Gerso systems, the ship is armed with particularly large versions of the Gerai's shaped charge launchers, advanced sensors designed for the detection of cloaked objects, and Gerai wing bays.

Norase: Conforming more to the standard Geris fighting style, the medium-armored Norase relies more on shielding and agility to stay alive. Roughly the size of the Arias, the Norase relies on the same technology for planetary travel. While it is equipped with 10 15 bolt Gerso systems, its main purpose is a fighter carrier, holding twenty Gerai docking bays, 8 on either side with 4 on the underside.

Harien: Halfway between the Gerai and Arias in size, the Harien is equipped with only 2 20 bolt Gerso systems on either side. The main focus of this ship, however, is the large W.A.R. cannon located in the bow. The Wide Area Reduction cannon works by focusing dark energy into a specially made chamber, compressing it until the energy is at the point of bouncing back against the compression. The chamber is then reshaped to shape the energy into a long, solid black flashlight-shaped beam.

Vehicles:

Haros: Fast land APC, uses anti-gravity to move. Hovers 3 feet above the ground and has small jets to boost it up to 10 for a short time. Has openings for the infantry inside to fire, as well as a rotary 5 bolt Gerso turret on the top. Strong shields, not so strong armor. Holds 5 infantrymen, 1 driver, 1 squad leader, and 1 turret operator.

Karien: Relatively quick for a tank, the Karien main battle tank has a shaped charge cannon 160mm in diameter, coupled with a 5 bolt Gerso system mounted where one would expect headlights. Inside the Karien are five seats. The driver, weapons operators, and extension operator. In the rear of the tank is a modular weapons bay, capable of being interchanged with just about whatever is required for the mission. From stealth systems to extra heat dissipation hardware to extra 5 bolt Gerso systems with operators.

Hyoran: Large and slow, the Hyoran siege tank is a mobile siege artillery battery. Equipped with a 140mm shaped charge cannon normally, the Hyoran can stabilize itself and overcharge the heat dissipation systems, enabling use of the large 400mm shaped charge siege weapon, blasting large bolts of energy shaped for armor penetration upwards of fifteen miles away, able to hit a target within 2 feet. Heavily armored and heavily shielded, the Hyoran must disable its shields to power the overcharge, making it vulnerable during siege operation.

Maro: Classified as a light tank, the Maro is a quick anti-gravity vehicle with four 5 bolt Gerso systems mounted on it, one on each corner. Because they are all separately wired and powered, if even the tank itself is destroyed, one of the turrets may still be usable. Seats 5, the driver, and operators for the four Gerso systems.

Other Stuff:
Gerso Weapon System: A rotary energy weapon system consisting of a generator, shaper, and projector. The charges hover around the weapon, distributed evenly. The number of bolts shows the number of charges the system is able to support at once.

The Gerso has 2 different firing modes. Relatively rapid firing, the speed depending on the number of bolts. With a general recharge rate of 5 minutes for a complete reload on a ship, and roughly ten seconds for fighter and land vehicle systems. The formula for determining the firing speed is [bolt number]\[5 for ship systems, 1\6 for others] for shots per minute.

The second firing mode loads all the charges onto the barrel, which usually looks to be a spike, and fires them all at once, forming a powerful combined charge. The only exception is in the case of the Gerai fighter, which has the bolts orbiting the nose of the ship. They converge on the tip of the nose, firing from there.

Shaped Charge Cannon: A cannon shaping energy into a pointed, explosive charge. Can be reshaped to accommodate Armor Piercing, Shield Piercing, and Anti-Infantry shapes. Any further shapes that are developed can be easily uploaded into the weapon via any standard Geris data storage device.
