A stiff east wind blew across the continent of the divine as a portal opened near one of their smaller villages. Out of the portal stepped a man in a hooded cloak or rather it would seem like a man. For this time around Carl had altered his look to some degree so that those idiots of Interpol would not be all over him within seconds as he had no desire to tangle with them today. With that in mind he slowly headed towards the village ready in his suit of armor. Just in case he would be ready if anything were to occur. Approaching a citizen who happened to actually be the elder of this continent Carl asked. "Where could I find a place to stay temporarily?"
-
"...The local Inn? Duh? Its right over there, with the sign. I think the price for one day is 20 Zerk, currently." The Divine said, pointing at the Inn.
-
Looking at the Inn Carl wondered for a moment. Examining his book Carl was wondering what exactly a Zerk was and how he could obtain it. Still though he had to admit the elemental native was very helpful to him in this madness and would be appreciated for a while. "Thanks. Now do tell, what is a Zerk?" His book had no clue either on what a Zerk was and wanted the information as well.
-
The Divine looked at him like he was crazy. "Zerk. You know, currency. Money." He said, shaking his head. He pulled a small, copper-colored coin out of his pocket. "This is a Zerk, you crazy still-shadow." He then turned and left, muttering to himself as he did.
-
Memorizing the coin exactly Carl materialized a pouch full of Zerk, at least 50 of them at his waist. Just in case anyone asked, he would have Zerks. So now he walked to the inn, pouch of Zerk ready for his own usage which in this case would be used to grant him even greater priveleges. Such as a place to stay until he finished the search his book had hinted at.
-
The innkeeper looked at him. A blond, slender woman, and actually quite gentle in appearence, she looked very much out of place in the wooden building, especially with all the people currently at the tables. It seemed the first floor of the inn doubled as a tavern.
"What'cha need, still-shadow? A pint of dol, or maybe klar? Its supposed to be close to offworlder drinks, I think klar is closest to something called 'scotch'? Anyways, what'cha need?"
-
"A room fothe night. And information on any magical artifacts that did not originally exist on this world, things brought to this planet by other people." said Carl sliding about 20 Zerk onto the table. "Also some food, and a change of clothes so I can blend in here. "
-
She reached for the coin, then drew her hand back, detecting traces of magic on the coins. "Sorry, still-shadow. I cant accept magically created currency. Its against the law for shopkeepers or really anyone to accept Zerk or any form of currency payment thats magically created, in order to keep a handle on inflation. If I took that, I'd be taken to prison once these were found by the Tax Collectors." She said, sliding it back. "As for the clothes, to be honest there's really no way for you to go unnoticed in the land of Divine. Your a offworlder, so you may look a lot like us, but your shadow will always remain still, so not much I can help you with there."
-
With that Carl nodded. "Have any jobs you need done around this place?" He would help her out some, perhaps earn some Zerk that way. Apparently his idea of currency would not fly in this place obviously and so he would have to make do with what he had. "The name is Carl by the way. Oh and I think there is." With that he cast a series of illusions on himself including one that would make his shadow move like that of a divine, and cloak him so that he seemed identical to one of the divine.
-
"Not bad, but anybody with half a wit'd be able to sense its a illusion. And no, sorry, I dont really have anything that needs doing. I did need fourty Varal claws, but I already sent a adventurer out for them. Should've been back by now, come to think, but those adventurer types are always crazy, you know?" She said, shrugging. She turned to another customer who ordered a drink, and she went to make it for him. The drunk insisted he didn't order it, insisting that he wanted green pebbles as proof he hadn't ordered it. "Its gonna be a long day..." She muttered, sliding the drink to Carl. "It was already made, and Im not letting it go to waste. Go ahead, its on the house this time."
-
"I don't have any Zerk." said Carl taking the drink and slowly sipping it. "And I just came here to look for some items my book mentioned might be here."
-
"Well, you prob'ly shouldn't have any Zerk, seeing as yer an offworlder. And if yer just looking for some stuff, to be fair you wont need any Zerk. Its not like you need to buy a permit or anything, after all."
-
Out of the book burst streams of colors forming into pictures of the various items, each one different from the last and looking old and antique. Each item had a single marking on it, and they were each different than the one before. The book was going to help with this search, by providing help in the form of showing the bar-maid the pictures of the things. Carl looked at the pictures and tried to do something that would cause the items to be found easier, by teleporting them to his location. Only it did not work, that idea of his would fail miserably. "So where to begin looking?"
-
She blinked twice. She had no idea why he showed her those images, to be honest. "Um...Ok? I wouldn' know where to start looking much for anythin', really, I just own my inn here."
-
"Alright. So do you know where I could get some zerk so that I can use it here if I need it?" The question was asked by Carl as he thought up a plan for his own survival. And without further ado he decided that the Pirate might be useful and so he held out the tome Zane had given him. "The scourge of the seas, the plague of the deep arrive ye with the trident to come to my will. I summon the Pirate."
-
The Divine's eyes grew wide, and closed the tome before he could finish his incantation. "Do you realize...Just WHO that would call?" She asked in a low voice. A few other Divine heard a bit, and slightly turned towards the man, as conversations across the entire area stopped and the room hushed.
-
"Yes, I do realize who exactly it would call. " The tome levitated off the table disappearing and then reappearing in his hands once more, before he opened it to the page once more. "From the depths of the sea, arise the one of the elders who is dipped in the briny blue, the trident that you wield calls you forth to this location. Answer now and don't face it's vexation." He said, completing the incantation that would draw the pirate as he had been instructed how exactly to do this by Zane.
-
Everyone in the shop cleared out, leaving whatever they didn't have on them behind, as Carl finished the incantation. And then suddenly...Water. The alcoholic drinks around flowed from their mugs, and from the massive barrels that they were contained in before put in the jugs, floating through the air and purifying into crystal-clear water. The floating trail of water pooled in the center of the room, a sphere of liquid floating as a figure fades into existence within. Upper-body human, lower body fish, wearing a obviously drenched cream-colored blouse, a bloodred bandanna over her brown hair, which flowed freely around her. Over her blouse, she wore a long brown overcoat, unbuttoned, and she had a trident strapped to her back. Her tail seemed adorned with many rings, and a large bit of cloth seemed to be tied around it, allowing her to fasten several valuable-looking objects to it without causing her pain. The weapon she currently carried in her hand was a rather large cutlass-like blade; it looked like a cutlass except that the actual blade was thick as a person's arm. Despite her age, she was actually quite youthful and beauteous. As she gazed at the person who called her, a sense of cold would descend, and she swam towards the 'surface' of the water and out of it, she asked,"And who the hell are you supposed to be, to call me here?"
-
"A friend of Zane. The former gauntlet wielder. He told me you all had quite a bit of skill with things such as the gauntlets. Is that true?"Carl asked, a formfitting barrier made by his book rising around him in the shape of a cube of sorts to protect him from any attacks directed at him. The book would not risk Carl today or ever if it could help it. Carl tensed up, waiting for the response.
-
"I dont use guantlets. And I cant say Im a friend of Zane, to be honest. What of it all?"
-
"My book heard rumors of some items here. Or rather has the rumors stored inside of it. Unfortunately those are incomplete to a degree except for pictures. Which are all that the book has, and why it has brought me out of my schedule to come here and search this planet for those items." Illusions formed near her of each weapon, 3d and solid so she could touch them.
-
The Pirate looked at them, her eyes linging on a single one a second long before she passed over them. "Dont know 'em." She shrugged, before polishing the blade she held.
-
"Never seen a one of them?" His book projected the more ancient versions of them, likely the ones the pirate would have seen somewhere.
-
"Im a Water Elemental. I live in my element-The water. I dont think I've seen any of these in the seas." She said, shaking her head.
-
His book told him it was time to go. For the BG had sent a couple of men to this planet. "Great. I have to leave again." And with that he held out his hand forming a portal that consumed him taking him to another location off planet where he would be safe after he did something to return the water to her home. He had to get off this planet and fast anyway.
