The successor system is existence's own little way of keeping balance regarding Embodiments being killed, which has happened many times in the past, and will most likely continue to happen in the future.
"Named" successors - A name successor is a mortal, or pseudo-immortal who has been given the title as heir to a force or aspect of existence. When and if that Embodiment dies, or retires from their position, the named becomes the Embodiment through a ritual known as the Ascension.
"Unnamed" successors - A very rare occurrence, as mortals and pseudo-immortals are rarely born with a strong attraction or affinity for an aspect of existence strong enough to become an Embodiment this way. If a named and their Embodiment benefactor are killed, and there is a true unnamed in existence, they are flooded with the power, most die, but some become the Embodiment.
These are the only two natural ways to become an Embodiment, there are however very dangerous and forbidden magics that allow for a much less..natural transfer of power.
Descendent ritual - Embodiments sometime have children, or a bloodline that runs deep, very deep in the mortal world. Sometimes an embodiment can have thousands of descendants, as they live throughout time unchanging. This is the descendant ritual, an ancient and evil magic that allows for a descendant to steal the powers of their Embodiment ancestor. Therefore killing them and raising themselves to the grand position as a God. The details of the ritual have been lost to TIME.
Twin successor scenario - Very few aspects of existence can be divided into two avatars, two Embodiments for one force. In Destruction's case, he name his child successor while he was just being conceived. When the embryo split into twins, it split their share of the force. Causing a rift in the power of Destruction. They will never be the full successors, and the force will not have an Embodiment until one of them dies, or relinquishes their right to the power.
Just a few things about it, if you have anymore questions ask me.

Umm,

-
Um..he didn't make the successor system, it was I who actually started fleshing it all out. :/
-
K2323, you, and myself all conceived the idea of embodiments at different times though. Myself with the first incarnation of Eli. K2323 with Anarchy, and you with Koty. K2323 took the place of fleshing out the embodiments before you though. And as that posts shows, had a successor system in place before you.

I sort of agree with this. I already was basically going with the Named/Unnamed thing. But I had it also set up that generally that if their is no named heir, there could be a lack of a certain embodiment for years till an Unnamed comes about and is ready. Embodiments also can pass their powers on in different ways, as seen with Fatet, who scattered pieces of him/herself throughout the Limbs Of Fate (the brown-cloaked man) so that those pieces could one day come together once more within Fatet.
Ascension, however, has happened some few times already in the RP. The process for that isn't so much what you were saying, but more that the individual spirit is tied within the essence of the embodiment, becoming one with it, and becoming encased in the shell of the embodiment ("body"). When it happened with K2323, he was in the heat of battle, and Fatet awoke within him, because it was at that moment that he was ready.. His body was unconscious for awhile, if I remember right.
When it happened with Kai, on the other hand, the embodiment in question was still alive. The two didn't completely merge. They've been merging slowly.
The descendant ritual thing is pretty much also already in use, but not like you described it. It's used more commonly by an embodiment to name a heir -- a true heir, a descendant. Anarchy created hundreds of heirs, all but one of which died, for the purpose of someday having said heir take upon the role of Anarchy. The only one which has survived to this day is Chaos, head of the Tyris "bloodline".
Twin Successor is fine..

Oh, I understand Anarchy's motives and all that, I'm just saying there is a way..to steal an Embodiment's power. It makes the game a bit more interesting in my opinion, it also always for a lot of potential plot developments.

You and I really do think on the same track. I was planning something similar to this as part of Season 5..
-
We've been head-to-head rivals for the good part of a decade, I think we're slowly turning into the perfect Anti-K2/Anti-Orph weapons.
-
=D
-
Oh look.
Accepted fucking shit about the twins not being able to be Destruction.
-
Accepted? Grimoire wasn't something for requests, it was something for information. He said it was fine, didn't make it 'accepted' as it was never requested it was just thrown out there by you. BUT GUESS WHAT, you left, you surrendered all your fucking rights to the embodiment in question, so a different thing for that part which was not even IC was put in place doing like Red did with Emptiness.
-
Too fucking late.
This shit was IN the story.
There also isn't a fucking request section for concepts of fucking existence.
-
Uh no it wasn't. It was mentioned as a possible outcome, not THE have to be outcome. You think I didn't go re-read the psots before making sure? Because I did. It was a 'maybe this'll happen' so when you gave up your rights to the damn force and left, I filled in the damn blanks.
So using your logic, Orph?
Too fucking late.
