Jack O' Lanterns lined the streets, wacky costumes flitted through the lawns, to the houses, gathering outrageous amounts of candy. In the midst of the cheerful celebrations, Sierra looks at all the sites with a smile, her hair in pigtails under a goofy white baseball cap. She was dressed as Zokemon trainer from the famous Zokemon franchise, and she searched the crowd impatiently for her friend.
Or rather... More then a friend. Sierra had grown very attached to the mute girl Serina, and the two had become inseparable. They were still sorting out their feelings for each other, but Sierra had never felt for anyone like she had for this adorable, bright haired, silent girl.
-
Serina was smiling to herself as she ushered the kids into the side of the road. Mal was dressed up in a frilly pink dress with a bonnet and scowling angrily all the way. Jayne was dressed up as a farmer, Wash and Zoey both as Zower Rangers, Yellow and Red. Kaylee was matching up with Sierra's costume, a Zew with little pink cat ears and everything. Simon was dressed up as a doctor and River a nurse. Serina was dressed in a form fitting Zokemon outfit, blue shorts and a yellow mid drift bearing shirt.
Cale was taking the kids around and Serina, smiling, looked over and saw Sierra in the crowd, looking the completely opposite direction. She smiled some more and snuck up behind her and hesitantly hugged her. Afterall, it was a holiday, she could hug if she wanted to. She reasoned. Kaylee quietly followed her, sneaking around the corner.
-
Sierra sighed for a second, enjoying the embrace... And then grabbed Serina's hand and started spinning her around and laughing.
-
Serina smiled and spun around, enjoying the relief from watching the kids. She grabbed Seirra's hand and began to waltz with her. Kaylee giggled from her hiding spot.
-
Sierra laughs, resting her free hand on the small of Serina's back. She still keeps some space between them however, and dances with an exaggeratedly silly look on her face.
-
Kaylee ran up to them and hugged Seirra's leg. Serina smiled and stopped the spinning in order to not knock over Kaylee.
"We need to go get some candy!" She exclaimed. "Otherwise its gonna be all gone!" She was very excited.
-
"Kaylee!" Sierra exclaimed, breaking the waltz and picking her up in a hug.
"I was wondering where you were! Look! I caught a Zew!" She said smirking, putting the girl in the nook of her shoulder. Kaylee giggled madly, fighting the grip.
"I'll name it Kaylee! We will catch so many Zokemon together!" She said, giving a careful nookie, so as to not mess up her costume. "And get some candyyyyy!" Kaylee begged, fighting the grip. Sierra gave a fake exasperated sigh. "Fiiine we'll get some candy... You're twistin' my arm here!" Sierra looked up to Serina smiling. "Let's say we score some candy for the munchkins alright?" She lifts her free hand to offer it, freely at first, happily. But suddenly she catches herself, her smile fading as she pulls her hand back. She stared awkwardly at Serina for a second... Then, fumbling over her words, said. "Let's uh, uh... Go get candy!" She turned away and started walking, Kaylee still giggling in her arm.
Sierra felt so stupid... How could it be so strange and yet so wonderful at the same time? It was a little too much right now, he troubled frown reflected her thoughts on the past three weeks, of having a stable home to play her bass, of the hats that Alec and yes, Serina had bought her. She felt so at home... What if the relationship with Serina changed that? She couldn't let it happen. So she trod onward at a brisk pace, towards a house to "Zrick or treat!" As they say, unhappily pondering.
-
Kaylee looked at her curiously as she offered her hand then rescinded the offer. He frowned at looked at Serina for her reaction as Seirra carried her away.
Serina smiled at her happily when Seirra offered her hand but that smile faded when Seirra's did. Serina's heart sank slightly as she wondered what she'd done wrong. They'd been just fine a second ago but now it seemed like she was avoiding her. She scratched her head sheepishly as she followed, keeping her head down.
The first house they went for was an old, black mansion were an elderly woman was passing out treats.
-
Sierra set Kaylee down, bending down to be at ear level.
"Knock hard Kaylee!" She said, with forced enthusiasm, wanting to curl into a corner and think. How she wished she had her bass now, she could pluck and bow the strings till they drowned out her thoughts...
-
Kaylee nodded and ran up to the door, knocking on it furiously. The lady came out dressed in a cardboard cutout of a ghost costume and gave her some candy. Serina bit her lip and decided to poke Sierra in the sides, cocking her head to the side curiously. She let out a worried whistle in the whistle code she and Sierra devised. It meant, you okay?
-
Sierra forced a smile, thanking the woman, jumping slightly as Serina pokes her. The old woman shakes her head, closing the door and muttering under her breath,
"They get sluttier by the year..." Sierra grabs Serina's hands softly, keeping them at her hips as she turns to face her.
"Just a lot on my mind... Let's just have fun, okay?" She says, trying to smile.
-
Serina nodded and smiled.
"Kaylee, come on over here!" Alic called from behind them, beckoning for her to get with the group. "You two go have fun, alright? You've earned a little time off babysitting." Kaylee bit her lip then hurried back to Alic to show him her candy.
Serina smirked and raised her eyebrows at Sierra in a 'so, what do you wanna do now?' way.
-
"Have fun honey!" She called after the girl, before turning back to Serina and looking in her eyes. There was so much happiness she thought, and, thinking with surprise, so much nervousness as well. They were very much alike in that way. Reading her smirk, her eyes travel upward in thought.
"Wellll, we should probably get off this ladies porch before she chases us off with a shotgun." She laughs, as more children appear to ring for candy. Sierra grabs Serina's wrist and pulls her back on to the street, eyes searching for an idea.
-
Serina nodded and followed her off the porch. There was a small part y going on at the haunted house down the street. Serina smiled and pointed it out to her girlfriend excitedly. Maybe they could go there.
-
Sierra smiles, nodding as she begins walking toward it. As they come closer and screams and innocent laughter come from the building, she leans over to Serina.
"Hope you don't get scaaaaared." She says laughing. In a way, she hoped she did, then it would be less embarrassing when she did. Sierra was pretty good about jump scares, but some of these haunted houses had some new tricks these days that she never saw coming. From the looks of it, you had to go through three floors of haunted horrors to get to a bumpin' party in the back. If you made it through, the drinks were free... Not that it mattered, both of them being underage anyway. It was a five credit entry fee, supposedly benefiting some cause or another.
-
Serina smiled in anticipation. She'd been to a lot of haunted houses and they were always so fun to go to and see the lengths that people went to. As they neared the building a literal skeleton held out its chalky white hand for the credit fee. Serina patted her sides for her wallet and found them disturbingly empty. She must've left her wallet at home. She rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly.
-
"Ummm..." Sierra reaches into her shorts, grinning as she finds her wallet. She grabs ten credits, handing them to the skeleton.
"You owe me, dear." She says with a smirk at her pink haired friend, as they head toward the door.
-
Serina shrugged and smiled before nodding. The skeleton's hand pulled back slowly and it nodded. Serina, taking that as the cue to enter, pulled her girlfriend into the slowly opening, creaking doorway. The first room was all black with lights flashing on and off every so often. Blue, white, green, small specs of light perforating the darkness. Slowly, specters began to appear before the girls, simply glimpses of forms, not enough to make them out but enough to be spotted briefly. Serina shivered slightly.
-
Sierra put her arm through the crook of Serina's, holding her close in anticipation of what came next. Odd as it might be, she found the lights and spectres... Soothing. They were actually quite beautiful... But she too could feel the chill in the room, and her heart started beating as her eyes desperately tried to adjust to the darkness.
-
But she couldnt. The room was completely dark except for the random flickering of small, bright lights. Serina squinted her eyes, trying to adjust to the lights to no avail. The spectres drifted closer, disappearing right as one looked at them. They were like a mist almost, not corporeal but there, right beyond grasp. Serina felt a little reassured when she felt the warm of Seirra's arm hold onto hers. She glanced over at her and gave a small smile as she walked face first into something wet, slimy and very, very smelly. Her eyes went wide as she jumped backwards, seeing a rotting corpse right in front of her. She squinted at it and could barely make out... Alec.
Next to Seirra a pair of small, cold arms wrapped around her leg. A very... off looking Kaylee was staring up at her, smiling. It wasnt her normal cute smile of happiness. It was a smile that serial killers would die to have. She was extremely pale and looked as if her face had been stitched up.
-
For a second, all Sierra did was stare down at the little girl, her mouth dropping. And suddenly, kicking the little girl way, she grabbed Serina's hand and ran back to the door in the darkness, pounding on it and screaming,
"GET ME THE HELL OUT OF HERE! THIS SHIT AIN'T FAIR, I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS!"
-
Tears were in Serina's eyes as she stared, horrorstruck, from Kaylee to Alec. She closed her eyes and looked away, following Sierra blindly as she attempted to banish the thoughts from her mind. Somehow they just kept coming back, a decaying Alec, a doll like, disturbing Kaylee. She cried silently, hardly aware of her surroundings anymore. She just wanted out.
There was a deep grating laugh and the door opened, revealing a bright light, which Serina stumbled out into. She could hear the fake Kaylee calling for her. "Why dont you love me? Why dont you love meeee?" It asked in a voice so similar to Kaylee's but so different.
The light revealed a party area, bright, happy. Lots of people drinking and dressed up in colorful costumes. The front door was no where to be seen.
-
Fists clenched at her sides, Sierra's first thought was that she would be taking advantage of the free drinks after all. The second was that she wanted to find the guy in charge and kick him in the balls. But as she looked over at Serina, these thoughts melted away as the tears fell. She wrapped her arms around the girl, pulling her into a tight embrace.
"It's okay baby... They were just messing with our heads. None of it was real. Alic and Kaylee are okay, I promise."
-
Serina tucked her head against Sierra's chest and she cried silently for a few minutes, trying to calm herself down. She then looked up at Sierra shakily and bit her before looking down. She shouldnt be crying in front of her. She just shouldnt... A small hint of embarrassment mixed with her fear as she sniffled.
Not very many people noticed them, it must have been a common occurrence for people to react to the room like this.
-
"Shhh don't be embarrassed... It's okay." She brought her over to an empty couch and held her to her chest.
-
Serina took a deep, shaky breath as she was held against Sierra. She felt a little bit calmer, like she could trust her more. As if it was a safehaven in the middle of the storm. She smiled slightly wetly and made the Zarethian sign for "thank you" As she just pulled back slightly, her eyes red and glistening.
-
Sierra nodded in reply, smiling as she smoothed back the girl's rumpled hair, pausing for a second on her cheek, and then slowly bringing her hand back.
"Where do you want to go now babe?" She asked in all sincerity. She didn't really want to hang around here any more then she had to, and she understood if Serina wanted to see Alic and Kaylee again. In fact, she wanted to hear Kaylee's innocent voice again, to wash away the corrupted version she heard.
-
Serina's cheeks flushed as Sierra's hand ran down her cheek. She smiled a little wider now and took Sierra's hand. She had enough of this place. She just held her hand for a little while before standing up and wrapping her arm around Sierra's waist and resting her head on her shoulder. She walked them towards the exit.
-
Sierra was caught of guard, but smiled, clearly enjoying it. She rubbed her head against Serina's, also placing her hand on her waist. They left the haunted house into the cool night air, Sierra shivering a little from her lack of long sleeves and pants, but could feel the warmth coming from Serina.
"I wonder what kind of trouble we can get ourselves into now..." She muttered, thinking out loud.
-
Serina was elated to say the least. She liked her too! She actually liked her! She thought excitedly, smiling. The smile turned into a frown when she felt the soft shivering of Sierra. Glancing up at her she began to rub her back gently. "We can see party" she signed.
-
Sierra was running on a buzz in Serina's embrace... She was finally willing to let go and enjoy it, she pushed any would-be consequences from her mind as she pressed closer to her... Her girlfriend. She wasn't afraid to say it anymore. Trying to remember the signs, Sierra shook her head with a sheepish smile.
"Say again?"
-
Serina smiled and signed the same message, albeit a little bit slower as she marveled about saying Sierra is my girlfriend in her head several times. She liked the sound of that. Her girlfriend. Sierra is her girlfriend. He smirked and in her elation she pecked Sierra on her cheek, reddening but smiling nonetheless.
