Title: Locusts Rising
Post by: @Pokemon Master Red on January 28, 2012, 02:28:19 AM
At long, long last...The Raiding Fleet makes first move in a long time. Three Hornet Super-Capitals, five Wasp Capitals, all flew for this planet out if nowhere. And then...The Psychic Scream. The massive burst of pure Psychic power, flooding the minds with it and overloading their foe's brains. When they got close enough to the world, they'd send down their Planet Cracker Castes first, the massive worms breaking into the crust of the planet and forcing their deeper, assuming they did make it. This place was cold to them...Unlike most Locust targets, where they burrowed in the hot crust of a temperate planet. Not this one...It was refreshing, even felt good. Their jobs would much easier due to this. The Raiding Fleet mranwhile prepared their other Lorcar for on-world warfare, putting them in the Bio-Pods for descent upon the prey planet.

"Sir, we have multiple contacts! Reports confirm, it's the Locust Race!" a technician shouted at a general in the temporary construction site on Walape, where a new military base was being built for the Anrufe. They had experienced this particular race, the Lorcar, on more than one occasion. Their first meeting with the race had been about nine years before, on the Anrufe's homeworld, which the Lorcar had nearly completely destroyed.

"RAISE DEFENSES!" the general yelled. The base suddenly began to sink into the ground as a cavern under the base, newly digged, opened up, swallowing the base whole, before resealing itself. Shields appeared around the area in a further attempt to protect the now underground base. Of course, normal shields would not block the psychic screams. Not at all.

As the Castes rained down from the sky, Carvenplaren which had been newly pumped into the atmosphere in a gas state binded itself to their forms. As they picked up heat even in the cold atmosphere from the inertia, the gas began to turn to a very, very solid state, the Carvenplaren coating the castes, sealing them shut, and trapping them into the ground. They wouldn't be going anywhere any time soon.

The Anrufe's home base was quickly alerted of the situation. A transmission was relayed from a remote location off-world through the base computers to the Lorcar ships.

Code: [Select]
Stop... Now. Or prepare to be wiped out. We can be friends, or we can be enemies. Your choice.

Unfortunate, but technological transmissions aren't meaningfully interpretable by Lorcar, incapable of understanding these transmissions as anything more than Static noise. Annoying static, at that. In return, they emitted another psychic scream, also carrying forth their annoyance and lack of understanding of the received message. In addition, the Lorcar felt the gas hardening around their Planet Crackers, through their Hive-Link, and used a form of telekinesis to break off the material hardening upon their skin, to allow them to move when necessary. They psionically scanned the atmosphere, in addition, to figure out what was hardening the Planet Crackers, as the did their work. In any case, these Castes ignored the Antigen base for now, focusing on other life beneath the surface, or valuable materials the Lorcar could use, such as from this planet, definitely ice.

Upon realizing what was occurring here, the Anrufe's psychics on the ground sent their reply to the Lorcar via telepathy. A JD window opened above the planet, and none other than the Anrufe titan came forth, blocking all the sunlight from hitting the planet. It's massive size could be seen from nearly anywhere on this side of the planet at the moment. It had come to defend the Anrufe, if it would need to.

OOC:Aught, in my above post that's supposed to say Anrufe, not Antigen. This phone auto-corrects spelling 'errors' even when you don' want it to. ><
"Friends? Between those who do not share a Hive-Link, who do not know all the thoughts of the other?
No...Such...Thing."

The Locusts replied, with a weaker burst of telepathic power, enough that their message is heard and safely interpretable by their brains into words they'd understand, rather than concepts or thoughts like the Lorcar communicated. As the Titan appeared out of its warp, the Locusts bombarded it with telekinetic power, attempting to pull it apart and twist its cannons, bend the metal itself closed. Of course, shields would probably negate most of these attempts, but in that case the psychic power would just wreck havoc with the shielding. The scan of the atmosphere completed, as well, the Locusts now knew what was hardening their Planet Crackers. Unfortunately there was little they could do as of the moment as their mental strength was being taxed a bit. If the giant worms got petrified again, they'd be broken free but a longer-term solution would have to wait.

Unfortunately for the Lorcar, the titan DID have shields, and it was, obviously, massive in size. The Lorcar's assault did little to it, but would progressively cause some damage if left unchecked. CutFiber bombs were beamed down to the sit of the planet crackers. Their forms would explode, and the hardened shells would fall, its mass hopefully enough to crush the crackers. Even if the explosion and mass was not enough, decay fields began to be emitted around the crackers.

Realizing the effect their transmissions had on the Lorcar, extremely high frequency packs of static were now broadcasting all around the planet. Massive Phase Shift guns newly erected on the planet began to shoot waves at the Lorcar ships in space which would begin to tear their forms apart on a subatomic level, starting with the shields. What was broken down would be sent into random points in space. The titan also started to shoot railgun fire at the ships, and to charge Tower Time Sun.

In response to the new broadcasts, the Lorcar simply stopped receiving them in order to continue concentration. As they detected the cannons being fired upon them from the ground, the three Hornets held them with telekinetic force before turning the barrel/whateveryamacallit at one another to stop them from daring to fire anymore(though the telekinetic barrier all the Bioships had was severely weakened by the initial attack by the cannon). Meanwhile, the Wasps caught the bombs being dropped upon the (by now entirely underground)Planet Crackers, decided to put them to a better use in launching them telekinetically at these same Phase Wave cannons, using their enemy's weapons against each other. There was little that could be done about the heavy decay except by attempting to ward off the field particles everywhere with a slight psychic shielding, but the interference of the Crackers being underground combined with the bioships being a bit...Preoccupied made it a fairly weak ward, probably easily circumvented.
As well, the Raiding Fleet launched several Yellow Jacket Frigates, Bee Fighters, Bumblebee Corvettes, and even a few Worker Bee Repair 'Fighters' for the apparent spacial battle to occur. The Yellow Jackets led the rest of the Swarm to the enemy Titan, as the Hornets aimed their massive Bone Cannons at the Titan in order to open fire. While their ammo was only made of bone, it would still deal heavy damage to the enemy ship's shields, enough to weaken them for the incoming Swarm.

"SIR! A CODE: FREEDOM OPERATION HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED! WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE!" a technician yelled at the captain within the Titan.

"We can't just abandon the planet!" the captain argued, "You're insane. Move the titan directly towards the enemy ships, redirect all power to shields. We're going to ram them."

"Sir, we c-"

"DO IT!" he yelled angrily.

All non-essential power was redirected to the shields of the massive titan, which began to move towards the enemy fleet. In moments, it would crash into them.

The Locusts might not have been as large as the Titan, but they were far nimbler. Not that they WERE nimble, no, the smaller ships could be but not the Wasps or Hornets-Just MORESO. As it was, the Titan was on a collision course for Walape now, and as the Locusts passed it by, they used Telekinesis at its thrusters...Intending to rip them off the ship and leave it incapable of redirecting itself from its course. The wreckage might have something useful...
1/5, getting rid of shield+ripping off engine. Not LIKELY to succeed, buuuut I'll at least try.

But the titan's shields were at full strength, it would continue on its course. Even had the Lorcar somehow gotten past the shields, they would find that the titan was far too large to completely stop. And even if they had succeeded in that, it's inertia would be more than enough to keep it on its crash course. The Magiship worked by manipulating space around it, not by standard fueling. It was going to crash into the Lorcar, and if it had to, it would take Walape with it.

Suddenly, a hail of blaster fire would rain outward but not on the Anrufe....but on the Locusts that plagued the plane, the Lorcar. They would be under attack and somehow it would seem from a familiar source. Someone was helping the Anrufe, but who? Hundreds of Corvettes, 200 of them filled the area with Anti Pysker fields up as they began to relentlessly hammer the Lorcar ships with laser fire and missiles of the lanar variety, rail guns and what not. Two large frigates would emerge and let loose hundreds of Narrikian equivalents to hornets which would attack the Lorcar ships as well, with barriers meant to block telepath or telekinetic abilities. A transmission would be sent ot the Anrufe.

We have decided that in this, we shall help you.

This was the first exploratory force.

OOC:I'll assume you meant Narrikian versions of Yellow Jackets launched from the frigates, unless you mean the actual insects when you say hornets which would really be kinda weird. Lorcar Hornets are Super-Capitals, after all, and their Wasps are Capital-Class. Also, I don't think you actually HAVE Anti-Psyker fields anyways, so...Since I asked Zak, who would be the only person you'd get those from and he said he hadn't traded those to you...

Of course, the Locusts still weren't in its path anymore, having scattered around it already(passed it by and all). No longer in a single swarm, they continued around the ship, still assaulting its shields with psychic power as it headed for its own planet because...Well...They still haven't taken its shields down anyways, and really wouldn't know if the Titan's propulsion. As far as they knew, the enemy would still be vulnerable to such a assault. Or that was the plan, until the new prey arrived. Their attacks were mostly annoying, kinetic projectiles stopped easily with psychic force and with the lasers, the light making them up bent around towards the new enemies firing at them. The Kinetic projectiles were also sent back at the ships that fired them, though in the case of the rail cannon slugs those wouldn't be going at Rail Cannon speeds of course. Still, fast enough that it WOULD causeway damage, at least to shields. The surprise attack distracted the Locusts, though, which to them forgetting about the Titan's shields. But anger lent them focus, which the directed again in a effort of taking the shields down entirely, while still moving away from the Titan. The smaller ships, Bees/Bumblebees/Yellow Jackets that accompanied the larger ships immediately took to attacking the new ships, in a attempt at destroying them entirely.

OOC: What I happened to mean was the Fighters of the K Empire.

Upon attack from the Lorcar Ships, commands for the heavy artillery to be deployed would of course be made and so the devour nanites would be loosed as a barrier would be formed around the entire area, it too resistant to the Psyker abilities the Lorcar used. The barrier would contain atmosphere and wind and so devour nanites would be released, eating away at the defenses of the Lorcar.  As for the attacks the Lorcar released those would meet wall after wall of portals, sending them back at the Lorcar ships and all the while more corvettes and frigates would arrive in the system, but these would not be assisting with the ones attacking the Lorcar. Rather they would form a barrier/cushion of sorts and try to catch the Anrufe?s titan, all of the crew of the ships that had arrived for that purpose working in perfect harmony to perform that mission. As for their annoying ability to use telekinesis to redirect the fire power, the crews on board the first group of ships came up with ideas and so added an Anti Telekinesis barrier in the area to stop that.

OOC:Oooooooohhhhhh, OK, gotcha. That makes sense.

Of course, the Locusts weren't close to the enemy ships, and hadn't directly attacked them with psychic force, merely redirected their attacks at them, making the anti-psychic barriers being put up essentially useless. However, the Lorcar saw the Narrikian's own redirection, and this time did the exact same thing, but redirected the munitions at the enemy Titan, using the weapons of these new enemies against that which they were apparently supporting.

One of the Hive-Drone Castes noticed the shift in the tides if battle, and reported it to the Hive General aboard that Bioship. The General mulled it over, and told the Drone to call in a single, allied ship, just in case...
Soon enough, a massive Psychic pulse rang out.

1/4 until Hornet Queen arrives at battlefield.

When the attacks came at the Anrufe Ship, it would also meet another wall of portals. But these would open inside the Anrufe Titan, and do damage to them. A delayed psionic message would be sent to the Lorcar.

STOP, AS WE ARE HERE TO TAKE THE SHIP! This would have immense force behind it.

All manner of artillery would be fired upon the Anrufe Titan. The Ringer would be used, to hopefully turn the minds of the Anrufe on board to mush.

As Lorcar continued to attack the titan's massive shields, the titan was mildly surprised by the new arrivals (which, by the way, would not be able to simply open a wall of portals inside the Anrufe's ship, as it was well prepared to deal with the wall of portals, quickly redirecting their output elsewhere before they could do damage). They used the momentary distraction that the new arrivals provided to open a massive hyperspace window and fly through it... Were they... Seriously running away?

But before they could get into Hyper Space and leave, one of the corvettes would fly through and open an AHS inside of the Window...cancelling it out and bringing them back to real space, thus causing them to be stuck there.

With the threat largely quelled, the Lorcar launched several Bi-Pods directly at the planet, along with a few more Planet Crackers. They remained wary of the other ships, very short fused, but would not attack...Not...Yet.

...And then, the output of the massive titan's hyperspace window opened, splicing through several of the enemy ships, which would, at the very least, cause massive hull damages and cause some loss of life. The titan did not emerge from the window... Not yet.

OOC: No, just a hyperspace window, which releases Zero Point energy on massive scales in order to allow a ship to move through it from subspace to realspace.
Title: Re: Locusts Rising
Post by: Zero on February 10, 2012, 09:37:20 AM
The Hyper Space Window did open, sending out Zero Point Energy which would take more than a few of the lives of the people on board the ships. 20 of the corvettes had been destroyed, and reinforcements were called in as two hundred more frigates would appear on the scene after the AHS outside of HS dropped allowing them to come forth and handle the mess here. The Frigates would open portals and try to use the surviving members of the Anrufe on the planet below. Those would be beamed up into holding cells with AM, AT, AST and AOW properties.  Later they would be interrogated and questioned about the plans of the Anrufe and what not.
As for the Lorcar, since they were no longer actively hassling the Neo Narrikian Empire they would for now be ignored and so each of the ships would prepare to withdraw from the area, but keep their weapons at the ready?including the barriers they had made and what not.  Later more innovation would be done to handle the Locust Race, but for now they had to wait it out.

IThe Locusts suffered damage by the attack, but not enough to cause massive damage. The loss of life was negligible, their bodies could simply be remade when they got a chance. The Worker-Bees got to work at repairing their host Wasps and Hornets, which responded to the attack decidedly negatively. Through the open Window, the Lorcar focused their psychic power into a wide area around the shield but ultimately not putting much force behind the attack. The effort was to the end of burning out the enemy shield with excessive contact with it.

Meanwhile, on Walape, the Lorcar Bio-Pods and Planet Crackers landed without trouble. The Planet Crackers ate into the crust, mining materials from it, while the Bio-Pods contained Workers, Breeders, and Reavers, and bring soldier/commander castes, but more than all those, a rather unhealthy amount of Mind-Shredders. The Shredders did little at the time, but the Workers produced Bi-Pools while the Breeders created new Castes to growl out from their massive hive-like arms. The Reavers and soldier/Commanders as base guard. There would be resistance if they tried to counterattack the Locusts.

But before the Lorcar had much of any time to respond, the titan came surging through the hyperspace window. It would, without a doubt, crash into many of the smaller ships, and while, yes, it's own shields would be weakened by the assault, the hyperspace window would have already damaged enemy ships' shields and hull integrity. This would be enough to put their ships into critical state.

Just in case that wasn't enough, railguns began to fire at several of the ships as unmanned Shieldshock fighters started to assault enemy shields which were still online. Raven fighters, also unmanned, began to dig into the hulls of ships who's shields had been damaged, literally breaching their hulls. If successful, they would proceed to start digging INTO the ship, digging hulls into said ships. Other unmanned Ravens flew towards the planet, going after the castes on the ground, and began to dig into them.

The Lorcar reflexively created a fixed-distance barrier as the Titan came barreling at them. Instead of blocking the assault, it forced the Lorcar themselves back, protecting them from the brunt of the attack but still leaving them too dazed to put up a powerful counterattack. About the only thing they DID do, only thing they could focus on, was weaponizing their shields in case the enemy tried that again...They made it so their shields, once under attack, would deliver a electrified blast. Certainly not enough to put up with a Titan, but in their state it was the best they could do. And fortunately, the new attacking ships weren't Titans, which would heavily electrify them.

The drilling ships would find themselves being corroded by the acid of the Yellow Jackets they tried to burrow into. Yellow Jackets were made to eat metal, so they were particularly lethal for the ships to burrow into. As for the Rail Cannon shots, they mostly tried to keep moving, preventing the foes from getting a clear shot at them. All damage the ships HAD sustained would be frantically repaired by Worker-Bee Castes. They wouldn't be able to instantly repair everything, but they could still make a difference.

The ground Castes, most of them, were actually too small to be burrowed into, except for the Breeder Castes and a kind of blob-looking thing that it looked like was created by several others coming together. The smaller Lorcar ran for the cover of snow, digging into it to evading the ships while some of the stronger ones actually fired from the ground, a hail of bone striking the ships. Or their shields. Either way. The Breeders, meanwhile, were building-sized Lorcar with long, hived arms. These arms were used by them to grab the ships trying to drill into their thick carapace, and either crush them in their hands or throw them directly at other ships headed for them. As well, while the ships were gripped, Lorcar swarmed out of the holes in the arm and climbed onto the ships, gripping in footholds and breaking through the window and hull, intent on doing as much damage as possible. These were mainly Traverse with Blade-Arms, giving them impressive cutting and gripping power to do this.

But the Shieldshock Fighters were designed for electric currents, they were after all designed to bring down shields, and many shields they encountered were weaponized in such ways. A good number of empires designed their shields that way. The ShieldShock Fighters successfully brought down many of the ships' shields, and would bring down the rest in a matter of time. More Ravens began to attack the unshielded ships, and railgun fire was now concentrated there.

When the Ravens realized that the Yellow Jackets were corroding them, they tried a new approach, launching Decay fields around the enemy Yellow Jackets. The Decay fields would cause the Yellow Jackets to literally wither away into dust, given enough time. The Railgun Fire kept moving, adjusting to changing paths as Energy Missiles were also launched at the ships. The repairing of damages would hardly meet the fire of the massive titan and the smaller fighters, which were attacking with everything they had now. Bullets flying through space, such massive chaos. This was war.

Formation Breaking shields were launched to stop the Lorcar on the ground from contacting each other, or moving in general, creating a series of walls on the planet. As some Lorcar were detected trying to run for cover, they began to be shelled heavily. CutFiber bombs started to drop all around them. Soldiers (Type 3) began to emerge from underground and started firing heavily on the Lorcar. The soldiers were slowly surrounding those on the ground. They had the advantage, as they had been conditioned to the cold here.

The bones met shields around the Ravens. The ones which were fired at targeted the Lorcar, digging into them as well. The Ravens seemed to be capable of moving through the Formation Breaking shields. They also began to dig into arms coming towards them. Time Tower Sun started to charge on the titan.

As unshielded ships were destroyed by continuous fire, and the few ships left which did not have their shields taken out found themselves loosing those very shields and coming under attack, it seemed that victory was in the hands of the Anrufe. Whatever few ships survived would hardly be enough to take on the Anrufe now. The Decay Fields also weakened surviving ships to the point that it would be suicide to try to continue the attack. The energy missiles also crashed into surviving ships, exploding violently into their hulls.

The Lorcar on the ground were also easily squashed, the CutFiber bombs wiping out the vast majority of Lorcar on the ground and underground. What the CutFiber didn't wipe out, the Soldiers did with their artillery. The Ravens digging into Lorcar also helped considerably.

The Anrufe had won. Walape had been defended, and the Lorcar's few survivors wouldn't remain survivors if they didn't leave immediately.
