High above in the dark skies of the barren planet there appeared between the clouds a floating child of a mere eight years of age. Her wings and hair glinted in the moonlight, a mixture of emerald and amethyst coloring, and her eyes shown bright gold through the darkness. She wore but a simple robe of green and gold and in her right hand she held a fluffy white teddy bear. Her other hand she had in front of her face, her thumb in her mouth.
The child descended to the ground below amongst the citizens of the planet.
-
Norman saw the light in the distance, and after a brief jog, came to see the peculiar sight.
-
Most of the people of this planet wouldn't be distracted by this odd sight except for a couple of seconds. Even then, they wouldn't care that much. Barren Planet was a place of many different peoples, most all of them outcasts for what they practice...She wasn't that out of place, all things considered. Still, that wasn't to say nobody noticed her and took interest, for better or for worse.
Since I don't particularly care for the worse people, better it is, then!
Lauren had seen the light as well, and followed Norman to it. Dread looked at the child, its expression unreadable, yet seeming curious. It climbed off from its usual spot on her back in order to crawl on the ground towards the child, tentatively.
-
The girl tilted her head as she looked at the dragon, following its every move with her eyes. Her thumb remained in her mouth while she tightened the grip on her teddy. The girl blinked once and drew her thumb out of her mouth, slowly. "Play?" Her tone was sweet and nice yet held vibes of hidden insanity within every word.
-
This such tone was not unusual to Dread, as many people on this world were indeed quite insane. He carefully stalked the girl, though since she was right there it wasn't a far crawl, before going right up to her and looking at her. The small fires in his eye sockets looked up and down her, gauging how threatening she appeared. Once he was satisfied, the Dracolich suddenly flapped its wings open and screeched, as it pounced for the momentum to start flying, but didn't attack her. Instead, he flew around her, spinning around and around and finding a nice place to perch nearby, but higher than where he was. He looked down at her from his ledge, almost quizzically. He didn't speak, but he understood their language(mostly due to his corrupted link to his mistress' spirit), and he was trying to get his answer across the best way he knew how.
-
The girl simply did not understand the dragon and cocked her head asking once more in a small voice, "Play?" This time the question held vibes of magic in it that had a hint of enchantment in the word its self, egging on any of low magical skill to come forward and answer.
-
The small dracolich screeched again, though less loud and higher pitch; something of a 'chirp', if you will. It darted for her through the air and headbutted her, though gently, before flying around a little bit and landing on the ground. Its tail swishes back and forth, not really wagging it but more moving it around, as it awaits the childs move.
-
Several minutes to an hour later of play, the girl suddenly blinked and then gave an expression of confusion as she dropped her teddy bear from her hands and took her thumb from her mouth. She turned around in circles a few times and looked around her as if looking for something. She then immediately stopped, "No.. magic...?" The girl cocked her head to one side and looked up, then down, then all around once again before looking mystified at the others around her.
Her wings remained despite the loss of magic as they had been materialized and made real and were not just created from magic.
-
Many of the Undead created on the world immediately fell back to death. A few others of various make, some of them spirits tied to the dead corpse to animate it, others made not quite with magic, yet not quite technology, but perhaps something else entirely, were not felled by the loss of Magic. However, with those created by tying a spirit to a dead body, what DID give way was the control the Necromancer had upon their minion. Sometimes, this isn't bad when the Necromancer didn't oppress them in the first place. Other times...Not so much.
Dread was not affected by the loss of Magic, himself. While he was animated with Magic, he was still a non-Sage Dragon, though lacking a spirit of his own. The Dark Magic twisted the bond, the spiritual link that his kind normally performed with others. While corrupted, the bond still went through...And his mistress' Spirit was then shared with him. While she didn't know how it worked, or that it even occurred, he was kept Animate by the spirit of his mistress, even without the influence of Magic.
Of course, despite all this...Without Magic, the balance of power upon the Barren Planet was temporarily broken. Those formerly the strongest were now weak as everyone else. Some still had power, those who bound the spirits of the dead of their own will to this plane, but the rest lost whatever power and protection they once had. Lauren was held in high esteem upon this planet...but not everyone had a pure enough heart to let that get in their way. And this girl, with the wings? Well, whoever she had ties to, they surely weren't gonna know who took her, not in this madness. Some would've wanted her as materials for a new Undead, others for even more unsavory reasons...It mattered not, there were those who advanced upon the group. Lauren and Jenny backed towards the girl, and Dread crawled forward in front of his mistress, her friend, and his own newmade friend protectively. He could sense the malice these people had. And while he couldn't feel most of his own powers, he could still fight to protect them.
