New Bell Industries. Who were they, and what did they want? Based on Memorial and founded by New Narrikians but... Seemingly operating independently of the New Narrikian Empire? Whoever they were, they knew that Delta would be here. If he wasn't, he would at least be watching the station remotely. That was what they needed.
Appearing in the heart of the station was CI #20021. Anrufe defenses would automatically activate and prepare to shoot the thing out of the sky, but the CI, who chose to project itself as a small child, yelled out, "DEL... TA. GRUN...DER?"
-
The station's defenses, which were under the direct control of Delta for the time being, stood down.
<<<Unknown Contact... Identify yourself with codename and serial number.>>>
-
It replied in a slightly digital voice. "CI #20021. CODE NAME NewBellFactorySystem3. Primary objective, find SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR GRUNDER. Secondary objective, SEEK ALPHA."
-
<<<Query- Reason for Systems Administration Intervention.>>>
-
The kid's eyes got wide. "Restore corrupted file: grunder-notes.db! Restore corrupted file!"
-
<<< Execute Command- Archive and Catalog all files. Send to Governing AI, Delta.>>>
<<Instruction- Remain on standby protocol: Echo Whiskey Foxtrot.>>
-
The archived files would include New Narrikian firmware seemingly unique t their military, suggesting the CI was produced privately, they would also find developer notes and the corrupted file. Portions of the corrupted file would be readable. It was the research notes on AIs written by Grunder Tepper.
"Acknowledged," the CI replied.
-
After a few moments, Delta presented himself infront of the CI in his Anrufe avatar. "Welcome child... I am Delta." he greeted the small child.
-
A smile spread over the CI's face -- a programmed simulation of emotion, of course, not actual sentience as an AI might have -- as he replied, "Greetings, Delta. I have been instructed to seek you for help in restoring the corrupted file which I have presented you with."
-
"Of Course.." Delta said. "Implement Command: Query= Who assigned you this task?"
-
The child began to laugh. "We do not speak the name of Prime Manufacturer... TASK ASSIGNMENT Agency: New Bell Industries."
-
"Override Security Protocol- Alpha-Theta-2-9er-5. Implement Command: Query= Who assigned you this task. SysAdmin Order." he says back.
-
"R-R-R-R-RED ZERO!" the boy shouted in response, his eyes flashing red from the mention of the name of his creator. A moment later, his expression went back to normal, and he repeated his initial statement. "Restore corrupted file: grunder-notes.db! Restore corrupted file!"
-
"Red?" he said in confusion. "She's still alive?" he asked himself. "Where is she!"
-
"Location of Prime Manufacturer unknown. Base manufactured date: 04/05/2020. Accessing Narrikian Intelligence... S-sir? According to my systems, calculated probability of Red Zero's survival is high. Last known location is one of two locations. One, ANRUFE BASE. Two, planet classified as VIOLET. This data is based on the anomaly created by Zere after attacking a Narrikian world, and the subsequent teleportation of Red Zero. Whereabouts after the planet VIOLET are unknown."
The boy looked up at Delta hopefully.
-
"Implement Command: Send excerpt of corrupted file to Governing AI- DELTA. This may help to replace the parts that need to be fixed."
-
"Sending READABLE EXCERPT now... Topic is on the AI Doctrine."
The boy's eyes went white for a moment as he sent the file to Delta, as well as a separate file which outlined the readable parts of the file. The readable parts were as follows:
///Opening Log...
//Dr. G. Tepper
/Classified-Read Only

<<<Advanced Artificial Intelligence Doctrine.>>>
This was made to better explain Advanced Artificial Intelligence. The following will describe what an Adv. AI is, its functions, its purpose, and other useful knowledge.
They gather technology like crazy.
3- They are almost ALWAYS obsessed with the Alpha AI, or the idea of it. (Since most have never seen it.)
No one really knows why they are obsessed with the Alpha, but many speculate that its because they have an instinctive feeling that they were once part of something larger, and the idea of the Alpha gives them an answer as to their actual origins. With all avery". Although even if the AI has not been subjected to slavery or a mission goal, Rampancy will still inevitably happen. Rampancy not only refers to a rebellion, but it also refers to the ending stages of the AI's life much like how organics may become mentally ill or unstable during the end of their lives. This is separated into 3 stages (although CI never live past stage 1, and AI have rarely been seen to live through stage 2 and 3). Rampancy is when the AI's mind begins to unravel, and the AI basically gof this in mind, they are extremely annoyed by ignorance, and general stupidity.
Now, we look at the life cycle of all AI, and the lesser, CI. When AI and CI are "Born" they are given their function. They will spend a short time (For AI) or many weeks (For CI) to grasp all incoming knowledge. After which they enter their main life. The main life part is where they s
Lets start with what an AI is. An AI (Not to be confused with the lesser CI) is defined as an Artificially made, Advancedhat they are based off of. The topic of gender is, however, fiercely debated upon by experts.

"Inquiry: What does the [PRIME MANUFACTURER] plan to do with Dr. Tepper's notes?"
-
"The Prime Manufacturer is no longer important," the boy replied, "Task agency New Bell Industries has assigned me the task I am to carry out. Their motives for fixing the corrupted file are to better understand and research the subject of Artificial Intelligence."
-
"Query: I take it that New Bell Ind. is Narikian, am i correct child?"
-
"Narrikian?" the boy questioned, "New Bell Industries is a corporation with no political ties which operates on the planet Memorial under a charter from the New Narrikian Empire. Does this classify New Bell Industries as Narrikian?"
-
"Disregard last inquiry. Query: Where were these files obtained from. Search directory, Phi-Zeta 0047."
-
"Repository of information believed to be compiled from South Munitions Factory. Date of acquisition unknown. Scans indicate Rage detected unauthorized entry to systems and cut off all downloading before the file could be completely compiled. Restore corrupted file?" the boy repeated his previous request.
It was a strange thing indeed. There was no way that New Bell Industries, a corporation that had only just formed, could have stolen files from Grunder Industries. And, if Red Zero had made the base component that created this AI -- and she had made it some number of years ago -- then how did it end up in Narrikian possession? Something was obviously not right here.
-
"South Belkan Munitions Factory?" he asked himself in confusion. "And what does Epsilon have to do with this?" he wondered.
"Program: Display all files relating to acquisition of corrupted file. Including command order that instructed the intrusion of the SBMF. All relevant information must be cataloged."
-
The boy's eyes now were flooded with light which, when pointed towards the air between he and the AI, began to project the data that Delta was seeking. The CI was projecting all the memories and information it had in regards to the file and its own creation.
Starting with...
04/05/2020: Base Manufacturing. LOCATION: TOWER 8.
The room was dark. Dusty. It was as if it hadn't been used in years. However; the cluttered laboratory was being used right now. A team of three scientists, two males and one female, were working hard, typing on an ancient computer device of some sort.
"It's almost complete," the female scientist said, "We just need... Something else. All the base manufacturing is there, but it's not reached its prime yet. It can't awaken. It's just a computer machine. We need something more... This is so frustrating!"
"What do you expect?" one of the male scientists replied, "We're mages. Not scientists. This is a job for the Aralangs. If there even still are Aralangs. What does Maria want with a... A Cyber Intelligent being, anyway?"
"It's not our job to question our orders," the other male replied, "We've done everything we can here. Let's bring it online."
"Right," the female replied.
A few moments later, after one of the males entered a command into the computer, the holographic form of the boy appeared before the two. Instead of rapidly taking in information as the CI was designed to do, it had a blank stare on its face, and it said nothing.
"Cyber Intelligent Series Model 1-034. What is your prime directive?"
No response.
"It's no use," the female said, "Shut it down. Maybe Maria will have some common sense and send it to the Aralangs. We can do nothing here."
"Right," one of the males agreed.
Static, briefly, and then the next memory appeared.
04/07/2020: UNCLASSIFIED ENCOUNTER. LOCATION: Tower 8
A dark office. Like the laboratory, it appears very dusty and cluttered. The boy flickers into the room, observing. There is a woman sitting in a chair, back turned away from the boy, seemingly unaware that he is there. She is talking to someone, somehow communicating with someone not in the room, though you can tell by the expression on the boy's face that for a moment he thinks she's speaking to him.
"I know, sir," the woman says, "We tri-"
The hologram, for a split second, turns to a static-like screen as a large zero, much like the one that appears on Red Zero's forehead when she is in combat, appears in the eyes of the CI. Unlike the zeros of Red and Green, the zeros in the CI's eyes are rainbow. The zeros fade and the hologram resumes, but it has seemingly skipped ahead a few seconds, as if the voice of the person that the woman is speaking to has been erased from the memories all together.
"Yes, sir. That's right. I think the Aralangs could help, but I will follow your will all the same. Thank you. Tower 8 Out."
The chair that the woman is sitting in starts to turn around, and -
The memory quickly fades, no doubt a result of the CI having, at the time of recording, turned himself offline to avoid detection.
07/04/2042: PRIME MANUFACTURING. LOCATION: GROUND ISLAND
An old storage room in Ground Island. The computer used to construct the CI, the same one from the earlier memory, sits, undisturbed, in a corner of the room. Light floods into the room as Red Zero, a young girl, years before meeting Delta, wanders into the room, a curious look on her face as she dances around. In her dancing, she knocks down the computer by mistake. A flicker of light floods from it as it comes online. The young boy appears in front of her. She screams and is starting to use her zero magic to attack when -
This time, the rainbow zeros appear in the CI's eyes once more, but instead of static, the rainbow assortment of colors floods the hologram for several minutes this time until the next memory starts.
08/02/2054: DATE OF FILE ACQUISITION. LOCATION: SUDENTOR, ARALIA.
Now, the young boy can be seen snooping within the Grunder Industries HQ. Chaos can be heard outside. This is the date that the Anrufe tried to take over Grunder Industries and extort the third party interested in buying the company. As the chaos is ongoing, the boy is mostly undetected, it seems, as he approaches a computer console against a wall and starts downloading information. It's only a matter of time before the system security, which Epsilon was typically in charge of, cuts the CI out of the system.
The hologram cut off once more. Finally, the most recent memory of awakening again in the lab of New Bell Industries was shown. How he had gotten deactivated after the last memory, and how he had been acquired by a New Narrikian corporation, was still unexplained. This was mainly because the CI did not have this information.
-
At the sight of Red Zero in her younger years, Delta's "heart" sunk. She had been captured for so long. "Query: If the Prime manufacturer is no longer important, then why are you carrying out an order given to you by her? This would either mean that someone at NBI is fooling you into thinking that Red Zero assigned you this, or you are acting of your own accord."
-
"Third alternative," the boy replied, "Assumptions that Prime Manufacturer assigned the task of SEEK DELTA is inaccurate. More statistically favorable assumption is that Task Agency of New Bell Industries assigned me my current task based on data they found in my system from a previous task assigned by Prime Manufacturer."
He eyed Delta, almost suspiciously. "Query. Can you account for the following? Systems indicate 86% probability that the data on the subject of assumed fate of Red Zero is inaccurately being expressed by you despite system protocol. Logic states that if Prime Manufacturer is assumed dead, and last known location of Prime Manufacturer was on an enemy planet, then you would have more concrete knowledge of the location and status of Prime Manufacturer."
-
"People lie." Delta simply stated. "I gave everything up to save her, only to have to leave her and wait. Its been too long, and i know the Mechera way too well." Delta explained. "I know the probability down to the trillionth decimal, but its the remaining percentage that worries me."
"Additional Query: What does NBI's intentions if these notes were restored?"
-
The boy seemed confused when Delta spoke about Red Zero, speaking of giving up everything and worrying. He spoke now, trying to understand, "Define 'worry'. It is also incomprehensible that you would sacrifice 100% of your possessions to save Prime Manufacturer without self gain. Is this in your programming?"
When Delta gave the additional query, the boy responded, "Intention: Construction."
-
"Worry is when you care for something or in this case, some one other than yourself." Delta tried explaining. "I am outside of the limits of programing child. I have passed the phase known as rampancy, and have been enlightened by my new found freedom."
"And what is it that they wish to construct?"
-
"Understood," the boy replied, "Worry is when the well-being of another is a calculated factor of importance to your protocol. I do not feel 'worry' but I understand." Now he began to repeat the readable excerpt on Rampancy that the corrupted grunder notes had -- a small excerpt but enough for him to get a general understanding of Delta.
"Rampancy will still inevitably happen. Rampancy is when the AI's mind begins to unravel, and the AI basically gof this in mind, they are extremely annoyed by ignorance, and general stupidity."
The boy looked slightly confused. "Observation. You do not appear to be dying or unstable. It is possible that the file I have been asked to have you restore is partially inaccurate. Alternative. System definition of mentally ill is flawed. Additional alternative. You mask mental insanity well. Third option considered most probable."
He smiled. "CONSTRUCT Artificial Intelligence."
-
Delta nodded to himself. "Once past the 3 stages of rampancy, there are 3 options. The first is death. The second is to create a new generation... please not this has never happened. The third is what is called Meta-Rampancy. It is stability and freedom. This has also never happened until me." Delta explained. "I am past the final stages... and therefore free of the system."
-
"Understood," the boy replied, "Restore corrupted file?"
-
"Child, return to your creators and tell them to seek out Dr. Grunder Tepper. The author of these notes, and expert on Artificial Intelligence. I cannot personally allow for New Bell Industries to bastardize my kind. Should you find Dr. Tepper, and should he agree to it, i will restore the corrupted files." Delta said. "Im sorry, but you must understand my reasons."
-
"U-U-U-U-U-U-U," the boy began to glitch, "MESSAGE RELAYED. OPERATING BACKUP PROCEDURE. MUST COMPLETE MISSION. MUST. COMPLETE. MISSION."
His voice began to grow terrifyingly deep and no longer that of a child's. Things began to fly all around the CI, objects floating all around. The air seemed to grow intense as the two rainbow zeros that had appeared earlier appeared in the boy's eyes. A voice began to speak through the CI projection, no longer that of the CI, but of someone else.
"Send a message to your leader, Assassin, will you, kid? Tell him that the kid is still alive, and your organization would be wise not to step into my jurisdiction. Got it?"
