Title: Polyegotains AKA "Splitters"
Post by: UnStellar on September 24, 2012, 03:58:43 PM
Race Name: Polyegotains (Often called Splitters)
Physical Appearance: Identical to humans.
Abilities, Traits: Polyegotains are essentially human, which has proven to be an evolutionary standard across the universe. But they have a unique talent, they can split into duplicates of themselves. It is sort of a Mitosis process, a new being forms on the side of the original, grows, and splits (though this happens in the course of milliseconds). This new being is physically identical to the original, but psychologically, is more dependent on the environment is exists in than it's genetic make up. This new being becomes it's own person, though it has identical memories to it's original. However, the copy can reform with it's original, and it's memories become one with the original. Once a copy has been made, however, they tend to retain their personality, even when assimilated and re-split several times. Eerily enough, physical changed that happen to a copy, I.E., hair cut, tattoos, piercings,  will happen to the host when they merge, and will still have occurred when split.

Basically, Polyegotains can clone themselves at will, and these clones become their own person, even when they have been merged with the original and are essentially "reborn" when split. The amount of clones that can be made varies wildly on the Splitter themselves. Legendary strong Splitters have been known to make 100 identical copies, though this is an extreme case. Most Splitters don't go over a dozen, and certainly not more then 5 in a relatively short span. For the average Splitter, going over a dozen will result in clones with defects, both physical and mental. It is also physically taxing to produce more than three clones at once.
Typical Lifespan: The original Splitter has a life span around 70 years, but clones usually have a span of 10 years.
Public or private?: Public! Feel free to use for NPCs or primary!
Other information: It's common for Splitters to keep one or two clones constantly and refer to them as their twin siblings. These clones usually gain their own distinct persona's, and dislike reforming with their original. The original suffers no adverse effects by merging with a wounded clone.

"It is sort of a Mitosis process, a new being forms on the side of the original, grows, and splits (though this happens in the course of milliseconds)."

I know this is a sci-fi/fantasy rp and all... But this is ridiculous. Splitting in milliseconds is way too fast for the body to "recover" before splitting again. I suggest making the cool down limit a little longer. It's physically impossible for a whole body to split and reconstruct so fast. This isn't a single celled body. You're talking of a multi cellular creature. If they split that fast, they turn into really small beings and/or will have terrible mutations/deformities for the "copy".

She may not be staff, but she is right. Asexual reproduction like this only takes such a small amount of time because it is microscopic, single-celled organisms doing the reproduction. They need far less raw materials and far less time to clone the same percentage of their body as it would take a human-sized and human-complexity body.

Just an idea I was playing to add an interesting public race to the board. My apologies.

If the division  was slower, I wouldn't have a problem with him.
