Title: Halloween Comes Early This Year
Post by: K2 on September 26, 2012, 09:17:22 PM
By all accounts, according to the Galactic Standard Time that many empires went by, it was still the middle of Spring, but of course, this was just a way of measuring time in an intergalactic sense, not an actual description of the seasons, seeing as on any given planet, the seasons could be totally different than those on another planet. On Autumnavia, there was one season. Autumn.

Arriving on the strange world of Halloween, Nek was mesmerized by the displays that it provided, but he also sensed that there was something deadly wrong that had happened here.

TJ glanced around and found leaves of various color scattered around. He was in slight awe but still unused to the teleporting ability Nek had. A heavy leaf that fell caught TJ off guard and he blindly attacked, kicking Nek into a pile of leaves. He looked around at what touched him and found it was nothing but a large leaf in the shade of a brilliant orange. He glanced at Nek, a secret apology showing.

"AGH!" Nek yelled, wincing in pain as he fell into a pile of leaves. His ribs didn't break this time, thanks to the fact that his wounds were still freshly healing and his Temporal energy was still present, but he was certain that he was going to have to get some body armor if TJ stayed with the Templars.

Standing up, he couldn't help but feel love and sympathy for the kangaroo. Shrugging off the pain, Nek glanced around the town, trying to find... Well... A resident.

(OOC: I always love it when people come here. You haven't gone back in time right?)

There was a slight chill in the air. Just a little, enough to know it wasn't warm. But somehow it was pleasant. The air felt magical and smelled of sweet spices and herbs. They appeared on a hill overlooking a forest, and the colors... Were indescribable. Over in the distance was a pleasant village of huts and Japanese styled homes.

TJ was busy being distracted by the brilliant shades of warm hues falling around them. When he tried to climb a tree, and failed, leaves fell. Amused by this, he leapt around, catching leaves before hopping into a building. He fell back and kicked the wall, only leaving scrapes from his mechanical foot.

OOC: Nope, still in the present.

IC --

While TJ played, Nek realized that he hadn't eaten in -- well, considering he'd only just reappeared after months of being who-knows-where, -- who knows how long. He smelled something extremely delicious and quickly trailed towards the village, trying to find the source of the delicious food. Food, food, food, he thought, lulled by the inviting displays of the Autumn village.

TJ glanced over at Nek, seeing an odd trance-like expression written all over him. He picked up a few leaves and hopped after him. Where's he going?, Tj thought, munching on a leaf

It seemed a small celebration was in the works. Not Halloween as one usually expected, but something for the teenagers of the area. The youthful energy hung their air, mixing with the nameless magic and producing an unusual blend of excitement and relaxation. Some looked at him oddly as he approached the town, but Autumnavia had been a bit more friendly to strangers recently. He passed a bakery with fresh pastries lining the window, with fruits he'd never seen before. He passed chalk signs advertising coffee and pie, a down home sushi restaurant, and a mom and pop diner.
He saw a lot of young people about, dressed fine. The boys wore button up shirts and ties with exquisite hats. The girls wore simple dresses in dazzling colors with neat designs on the skirt hem. Some girls giggled and gazed at the new boy in town, running off to the town square. A man dressed in traditional robes carrying a katana tucked into his waistband stared at Nek suspiciously, and lit a cigarette as he walked by.

A young girl walked in to the building, and gazed as she saw TJ. For a second she had a look that suggested fear, but then broke out into a giggle.
"You're so CUTE!" She squealed, and ran off to find friends.

Nek made note of the reaction of the villagers, though it was a dull note as he continued his search for the amazing smells, when he realized, the entire town was full of food. First wandering into the sushi restaurant, Nek was starting to realize just how hungry he really was. He glazed around the eloquent restaurant, trying to figure the place out -- was there a sushi bar? Tables? Self seating or a hostess?

TJ stopped and glanced at the girl questioningly before she ran off. He shrugged and continued to follow Nek. He paused at the smell of...Something... Fish. TJ backs away from the Sushi bar, a slight wave of nausea overcoming him,

...Only to be mobbed by a half dozen small children no older then 6. They petted and climbed him and called him all sorts of nice names. They adored him!

Nek entered the restaurant on a ground floor. It looked like the foyer of a house, a man behind a make-shift desk smiled at him.
"Hello, Stranger. Welcome to Nichi's. Just you joining us today?" He asked with a curious tone of voice.

TJ had a look on his face with mixed emotions: Irritation, shock, surprise, happiness, etc. He just hoped none of them tried to mess his gears up or take out a screw. That would make his a handicap for sure.

He didn't move much, he really couldn't. So the best he did was allow these little girls pet him and whatnot. TJ just tried to nibble on some of the leaves he was holding, that was most of the movements he made really.

"Well, my bud-" he turned to see that TJ had silently slipped out, and he shrugged. The kangaroo would be fine for an hour or so, right? "Yes, just myself. Thank you," he replied, smiling, not sure about the customs of this world, and as such, bowing slightly, something traditional for many cultures.

The man bowed in returned, and gestured to his right. A pair of stone steps lead down to a basement of sorts, and he beckoned for Nek to lead. After the short descent, Nek was treated to a beautiful atmosphere. Large candles adorned two hanging chandeliers in a cramped but cozy room. The tables all had wax dripping candles and the shelving was lined with it too. Without windows the air was stuffy, but warm and comforting. Booths were made with the same rough stone as the stairs with painted wood benches for seating. There were only about a dozen four top tables crammed down here, most of them occupied by bubbly teens, some of which glanced at him as he entered.
"Is this to your satisfaction?" The man asked behind him.

TJ found that the girls were actually quite caring and gentle, and treated him kindly. Some of them even started brushing him with combs, and one kept begging to ride on him.

Taking the stairway, Nek was a bit uneasy about what he might find in this basement, but he instantly fell in love with the scenery upon arriving there. This place was... Perfect! "Yes, great, thanks," he replied, smiling, glancing around at the teens. Ah, to be young.

He left him with a menu which was pretty small in selection. It was in a language he presumably couldn't read. He poured him a glass of water and went back up the stairs. They menu offered a small repertoire of sushi, with fishes unlike anywhere else on the planet. Seafood and rice were the same, but the unique fish tastes were paired with other flavors that ranged from normal to unknown, conventional to bizarre.

The little girl giggled with glee, and climbed up on Tj's shoulders without hesitation.
"Gogogogo!" She begged.

Sitting in one of the rather comfortable booths, Nek gladly accepted the menu, nearly drooling over the laminated pages, his fingertips scanning each selection, which, of course, he could not read. Graciously thanking the host once more, he sipped on the glass of water as he tried to decide which of the random items to pick.

"Stranger?" A voice asked. From the next table over came a confident, inquisitive voice.

The girl howled with pleasure, but returning to her friends, TJ found their parents waiting. They glanced disapprovingly at him, and ushered their kids away. A couple other children, a little older than the first, stared at him curiously though. The little girl on his pack was pulled off by her parents, and she voiced her disapproval. As they hauled her away, she screamed back,
"Thank you Mr. Jumpsy!"

(OOC: Good night guys.)

The young woman, in her twenties, gave a brief chuckle.
"Hello. I'm Nenise. Where do you come from?" She asked with honest curiosity. Her friends looked a little anxious.

A shy boy, around 10 approached the now dubbed "Mr. Jumpsy." He reluctantly stretched out his hand, carrying a bunch of leaved.

"That's kinda a complicated answer," he replied, mlaighing. He was, after all, a clone of a Narrikian, but he had all the memories that Ken Atlas had. Did that make his origins the same as those of Ken? Or we're his origins Ground Island, where he had been activated? Or Ken's office, where the DNA that would lead to his creation had been stolen? "I'm sorta a traveler, you see."

"Well, clearly!" Nenise laughed.
"This place is off the beaten path.  Are you here for the fest-"
"That's enough Nenise!" A man at her table interrupted. He was sitting with his back towards Nek, and turned his head towards him.
"Try the Kawish, Stranger. And mind your own business. Some of us are not as open as my friend. Best mind yourself." And with that he turned back to his friends, and him and Nenise seemed to be arguing.

The boy shook a little, clearly afraid. But his hand still held out the leaf for him.

TJ went back to the leaf and nibbled at the edges. Thr leaf still had that nice earthy taste like the others, but also witha sweeter taste. TJ tried to be careful about eating it, only stopping about an inch from the boy's hand.

Giving Nenise a wink, Nek smiled and turned back to his menu, leaving her to settle whatever differences she and the rude man had. When the waitress returned, Nek happily ordered the Kawish, curious about it. Actually, he wasn't so much curious as he was intensely starving at this point. Still, he couldn't help but wonder -- had she been trying to suggest some sort of festival were coming here?

No matter how much he tried to get over it, something was wrong here. It seemed like a vibrant, lovely place, but he knew there was something more. A secret, maybe? Or some other sort of trouble. Whatever it was, Nek intended to uncover it, and he wouldn't leave until he had.

Nek would have heard mentions of the Anrufe through their quiet argument. Oh yes. They had even touched this planet, as remote and unimportant as it was. Maybe that was why they seemed so secretive? The waitress smiled nervously and wrote down his order, heading back up the stairs, leaving Nek with his thoughts.  Nenise's table continued to buzz with the argument.

Glad that the creature accepted his gift, the boy nervously patted him on the head.
Title: Re: Halloween Comes Early This Year
Post by: K2 on October 01, 2012, 07:04:50 PM
A shudder ran down Nek's spine when he heard that word. Anrufe. He had hoped that, maybe, in the last few months since he'd been away, someone had come along and defeated them, but he could see now that he was mistaken in this hope. He wanted to talk more to these strangers, especially Nenise, but felt that he would be unwelcomed to approach them. Silently grabbing a colored writing utensil of sorts, probably for small children, he wrote a small note on a napkin:

Where can we meet privately? :)

Quietly enveloping the napkin with a silver glow that radiated slightly from his hands, the napkin would vanish, reappearing in Nenise's lap just as silently thirty seconds later. Of course, Nek realized now that it wouldn't exactly be as simple for her to reply.

TJ's ear flicked but that was about it. He liked this socialization. But the older ones looking at him like that... Why did they have such a different expression towards him?
Title: Re: Halloween Comes Early This Year
Post by: UnStellar on October 05, 2012, 12:45:23 PM
For a few minutes it didn't seem that Nenise had received the note. She went on talking with her friends, and before too long Nek's Kawish arrived. It looked like relatively normal sushi, although the seaweed was orange.

"Do-do you talk?" The boy asked TJ.
"You're special." he stated plainly.

Time Jump looks at the boy and shakes his head in a no. He couldn't speak. He was a mute. TJ's expression changed a little from his other statement. Special...? He scratched at his ear a little, careful not to dig fur and skin off with his mechanical foot. Special...?, the kangaroo thought.
Title: Re: Halloween Comes Early This Year
Post by: K2 on October 05, 2012, 05:31:06 PM
Nek was a bit worried that, maybe, Nenise hadn't received her note, but he was hoping she was just smart enough to act like she hadn't. Who knew, though? His skills could very well be rusty -- even though it seemed that his skills were sharper somehow, as if whatever had happened to him in the last few months had made him stronger. Still, he quickly let himself forget about these things, digging into the rather delicious Kawish until his plate was cleaned and he was stuffed.

Silently, he awaited his bill, unsuspecting that near Time Jump and the kids, another black portal was opening, just like the ones Nek and his new mechanical kangaroo friend had faced earlier in the day.

Eventually, Nenise left to go to the privy upstairs. She didn't even glance at him as she passed. After a couple minutes however she returned, and stopped to sneeze by his table. With a second long glance at him, she dropped a paper at his feet and went to sit with her friends. The note would read:

I'll be at the town square all night. Be there and I'll find you.

The boy grew emboldened, petting his head with less fear.
"That's a shame. I feel connected with you Stranger." The boy spoke with a tone of quiet intelligence.

TJ's foot thumped a little before he suddenly jumped. Somethin got his tail. When he looked, one of those weird furry black things was clinging on. He slammed his tail on the ground hard and the furball bounced off, turning into smoke. TJ turns to the boy and grabs him. The kangaroo quickly puts the boy in his pouch and turns to see the odd portal pouring out the little pests. Whatshisface isn't here.... Might as well give them a chase...The kangaroo thought. Clicks and whirs sounded as the gears went in motion with his movements. TJ turns towards the portal and leaps likeabadass and pops a couple of the black things before leaping off. Surely they'd be pissed and chase what killed their comrades.

The black things, however, did not retaliate. In fact, they didn't seem to be targeting the kangaroo or his new companions at all. They did chase after them, though, but when the floating, hopping little black furballs finally did catch up to the kangaroo, they circled around it, curious, almost playful.

After paying for his meal (imagine the surprise when Nek realized he had forgotten to account for currency change), Nek made his way back outside, whistling to himself as he looked around... And saw a mechanical kangaroo carrying a small child and being chased by the black little creature puffball things, whatever they were, that had been following Nek.

Pulling out the great sword on his back and walking towards the fur balls, he shouted out to TJ, "Get behind me!"

The little boy giggled with glee, delighted to be taken along for the adventure. Some folks stared oddly at the sight. The man with the now extinguished cigarette and katana came running at them.
"Kuso! Damien, get the hell off that thing... Or... Out of that thing!" He chastised. He brandished his finely crafted katana and stared nervously at the furballs.

TJ' ears swiveled back quickly before his head did. When he saw some random angry guy running right at him with a shiny object, TJ hops onto his tail and begins to look around for another spot to run. whatever those fluffy black things were, they weren't a threat compared to the guy with the shiny thing.

"You'll never take us alive!" screaming with a giggle.

TJ looked at the boy questioningly and then looked at the guy with the narrow blade. A weird grin came across the kanagroo's face, body lowering and legs shifting apart slightly. Gears clicked and TJ waited a few seconds, watching man run. His timing was perfect in his opinion, shooting up in the air over the man and several other people. TJ lands near an open spot in the sea of people parting before his landing. He used the springing impact of his landing to leap again, springing in another direction. So this was a game, huh?, the Kangaroo thought to himself, grin staying on his face.

The boy whooped and hollered with glee.
"Keep going! Keep going!" He screamed, clearly delighted. As they made their way through the sea of people, scattering them as they jumped, a couple other officers took notice and chased after them, screaming and hollering all the way.

They were on their way out of town, and if they continued on their present course would be in the middle of the woods. The sun would be down soon. Autumnavia had a reputation for odd sights in the woods.

(I feel a slenderman scene coming on bahahah.)

TJ stopped jumping, staring back behind them to see two or more persons joining the group. The kangaroo panted and looked around, seeing sunlight dimming out as the star set. Before them was a vast greenery that cast its shadow upon the boy and the kangaroo, its menacing darkness giving off hints of illusionary nightmares the longer he stared into its depths.

And as he came to a halt, all he would hear was his breathing. He might swear he could hear something behind him, or to his side, but any time he turned... Nothing but trees. But with every turn he made, more and more, he would feel he was being watched. Was that a twig snapping? Leaves rustling? Was there something in that tree?
His survival instincts would kick in and he would begin to feel paranoid. Lightning struck far in the distance, only the rumble of thunder heard. The boy would bury his head into T.J.
"You'll protect me, right Mr. Jumpsy?" The boy begged for an answer.
Title: Re: Halloween Comes Early This Year
Post by: Ghost on December 31, 2012, 01:33:02 AM
TJ jumped back at the sound of thunder, ears flicking about in every direction. The kangaroo looked at the boy quickly and glanced around. That guy with the blade and the other in the group didn't show up. The kangaroo slowly stepped back, retracing his steps as best he could. He silently moves looks around, half wishing the other people would show up and not kill him just to retrieve the boy and take him home. And where was that other guy that was with him before? Nek was it? Where was that guy?!

"Mister mister!" The boy begged, revealing himself in TJ's pouch.
"Don't hurt him, please! He didn't mean nothin by it!" He begged on TJ's behalf, and then noticed that the man wasn't one of the town guards.
"Oh. Who are you? We're lost, can you help us?" The boy asked, well looking up at him with big blue eyes.

The marsupial nods for a 'yes, fine call me TJ.' He looks around to see if there's a specific direction he went and sighed, not catching a signle hint. Evena  slight breeze shifted the scent trail so it made things even harder. TJ looks at Nek as if asking for help in getting back to the city and returning the boy to those crazy people with the shiny things.

A twig snapped suddenly; very close to the odd trio. A will o' wisp flickered in the other direction. Something was watching them intently. The twig felt like a signal, or a warning. The child began to shake, speechless.

"Right, let's um," Nek looked up at the snapped twig. "Let's get out of here."

Grabbing onto the two, he began to concentrate as another silver glow surrounded them. He was almost done. Drained. He'd been fighting these monsters, teleporting, and right now, there were several versions of him hopping through time and space, doing his bidding. It was very tiring. And healing that woman earlier had almost completely done him in. He and TJ were going to be stuck on this planet for a few hours, so he needed to make this hop count -- and it was time to gather more information from the girl he'd met earlier in the restaurant.

The silver glow engulfed them, and they were in the town square of the village.

TJ looked around, ears swiveling around to ear in directions where he isn't looking. Hopefully the mob from before isn't going to capture him for testing, or kill him, or something of that nature. The cyborg-marsupial crouched down and continuously looked around for signs of danger.

It was the very same square of the village he had been in previously; the same one Farora and Ayame were currently in as well. As soon as they landed, they would be swept up in the pandemonium of the event.
Children ran rampant across the square, laughing and giggling and having the time of their lives. One could feel the mirth in the air; it would be infectious. Younger children sat in circles tended to by teenagers, the older ones, 8-12, would be scattered abroad with sparklers, torches, candy treats... The teenagers would be found around the larger fires dressed in their best, dancing in couples to bands with big basses and brass sections. The girl he met earlier would be among them.
Some children gave him odd glances. Adults weren't supposed to be here; this was their night. But some of them found a familiar face.
"MR. JUMPSY!" A medley of high pitched voices scream. A small legion of little girls appeared out of nowhere, screaming as they chased down their new friend. The boy in his pouch giggled almost violently.
"Run Mr. Jumpsy! Let's see if they can keep up with us!"

"Um," Nek noticed the weird glances. He looked around, but didn't see Nenise anywhere. And he could tell that he was out of his age group here. He figured he'd look around a bit for her, and if he couldn't find her, he'd just go find those girls from earlier. Walking around, trying not to step on any children, his eyes scanned the crowd. He saw T.J., giving him a 'you're-on-your-own-for-awhile' look, and then kept looking.

well thanks Nek....TJ thought after watching him go. The kangaroo turned and hopped a little here and there, stopping to see if a crowd of giggling girlies were still following. At least those whackjob adults weren't there to kill him or something. TJ made occassional stops to nibble of a leaf or two, waiting for the children to catch up in the chase.

The night was really dazzling. It was a shame other adults weren't out to see it. Fireworks streaked the night sky, against the back drop of a cloudless night and a full orange moon. Everyone was outside, no tents our houses. They stretched out into the night like they were trying to be stars shining down on their friends. The band kept playing, a deep thumping rhythm beat against their hearts as they jumped and dance, and a playful brass instrument screamed and shrieked a shrill call toward the stars. It felt like a battle cry, rallying one to war. And with the stomping bare feet kicking up dirt, and the explosions of fireworks and the flash of bonfires shifting color; it felt like one.
Or a revolution. It was like a a rally against reality. For one night they would fight it and be free of it's oppressive grip. Tomorrow, it would return. But they had this night, and that's all that mattered.
Among this pandemonium, Nek would chance to see Nenise alone, sitting at the edge of a crowd. She had the queerest smile on her face; it spoke of a satisfaction that didn't need the approval of others. Her eyes glanced gaily as children threw powders in the fire, and the colors shifted happily. The girl was a strange contradiction. On one hand she looked alien from the festivities. She looked like a faint ghost, happy, distant, but cold and forever unreachable. And yet, at the same time, she seemed to fit right in. Blending with the crowd, one couldn't tell where it ended and she began. The fire glowed purple, much brighter than some of the other powers, and illuminated her short cut hair and simple dress perfectly. She was beautiful. She was radiating with life. She was alive!
 And she was alone.

The girls continued to chase after TJ relentlessly, brandishing combs like hatchets. Their rejuvenating laughter could probably be heard for miles. Hyped on sugar and the mood of the evening, he wouldn't evade them so easily.

FOR SOME REASON I CAN'T EXPLAIN
once you go there was never, never an honest world
BUT THAT WAS WHEN I RULED THE WORLD

Nek could see her sitting there in the dim light of the harvest moon above, a slight tint radiating off her skin. Fireworks were, quite literally, crashing all around them as he slowly approached her. He was... Slightly nervous. This was very unlike him, a smooth talker, usually great with the ladies. It reminded him of his old self -- the him from before he met Jay -- the shy, withdrawn man who had suffered from the atrocities of the Anrufe.
This was a glorious day. With each step, he grew more and more confident. She was alone -- what happened to her friends? He didn't care. She was all along. And she was so beautiful. He felt a wave of selfish desire run through his body. Yes, he was getting more confident by the moment. But this was different. Not like the usual confidence he had around women. This was something new. This was something beautiful. And he wanted to find out what it meant.

Softly approaching her, he flashed his white, pearly teeth at her as he spoke softly.

"Excuse me, but I couldn't help but notice that you're alone, and was hoping you'd like some company."

The Kangaroo halted to a stop, finding the kids had a smart little plan and surrounded him the only way to escape was up... TJ looked at the boy and then and the other children gathering about...
