Hangout / Re: why did we do this?
« on: June 27, 2020, 03:26:27 PM »
Because, despite all the bad, there is so much good hidden inside as well. Stories of hope and redemption. Stories of mastery of craft, and of failure. Stories of what could be, could have been, and stories of adventures that are simply not possible in our real world. We have been given the gift of creation here; the chance to hone our skills, and to dream of creatures and sights unseen by mortal eyes.

In short, we are here because the good outweighs the bad. Because the desire to touch the untouched in some way burns strong within us. Because we are dreamers, Zai. And this is our Dreamscape.

Realm of Deletrius / Birth of An Oracle
« on: November 07, 2013, 04:17:50 PM »

Raindrops.

Rain fell in Deletrius -- lost rain, and with it, a lost girl who was afraid, unsure of what she would be from here. That bastard... It destroyed them... It destroyed everything. Temar... Terraguove... What the hell was he? She knew the answer. Revenge had been a monster.

Her body hit the metaphorical ground of Deletrius roughly, and the already wounded Ayame found herself coughing up blood. Pain had long ago flooded her body and she hadn't the energy to move. She'd been worried, lying on the ground of that cold planet before, when the rain had began. But when she came here, the rain stopped. She was wet, alone, and dying... But the rain had stopped.

She heard a sound behind her. Had he found her at last?

...No. She could feel that something was wrong. She felt... Something dark behind her.

"That was quite the fight. Well done. Well done indeed."

The voice was male... And it sounded sinister.

It continued. "I must admit. I didn't think you had it in you. Betraying your friend like that. Not after what she did to save you."

Ayame managed to force her vocal cords to utter some instance of sound. "She lied to me!"

"And you didn't lie to her?" it replied amusingly, "Is that so, Amy?"

...Who was this and how did they know her name?

"E... Eric... Mann?"

The voice erupted in laughter.

"Eric Mann!? Still on that!? Please. Eric Mann's dead, you crazy bitch."

She could hear the figure approaching her. Before, she would have thought logically about this. She would have fought. She would have remembered her training. She would have done what it took to survive. But now? She was weaker. She was... Scared. For the first time in a truly long time, she felt fear. She was afraid.

The figure reached her, and using it's foot, it roughly kicked her over onto her back so she could see it, face to face.

"Y-you," she managed.

"Me," it replied.

"J... Jay."

"Not exactly," it replied, "We're related."

Shift grinned as he stomped his boot into her face. She cried out in pain.

"Come on, bitch. I've been with you for weeks now. Right. Here." He pointed at her brain. "And you still don't know my name!?"

"That... vision," she managed, "You... not Eric."

"That's right. Very excellent of you," Shift replied, "I made you think you saw Eric Mann... Because I needed you to survive. I needed you to survive because I needed to use you to destroy that embodiment. Revenge. Well, you didn't exactly kill him, but that little friend of yours did, now didn't she? And you helped. Or rather... I helped."

"Y-you manipulated me," she replied.

"That's right. And now, I'm going to kill you."

Shift grinned, looking in her eyes, basking in the pure fear she showed. It was moments like this that Shift lived for! Yes, the feelings he fed off of were all here! Hate, fear, pain.... It was like an all-you-can-eat-buffet, and he was loving it... And now, it was time for what was ultimately his favorite part.

Holding up his hand, a dark, red aura surrounded it. Pulsing. Dust began to float up from the ground into the air near his hand, atoms and molecules slowly combining until in a moment the red aura was gone and a large blade floated in the air -- one much like Jay Styder wore.... Only different. This one was.... Darker, and the metal was made of pure black.

"Farewell, baby," Shift uttered as the blade began to fall, its velocity quite fast, towards Ayame's chest.

Goodbye, loves.

Clink.

Ayame's eyes were closed when she realized that she was still alive. Slowly opening them, what she saw was truly... Amazing. Shift's blade had been deflected. It was lying on the ground, about three feet away from either of them. Standing over her, face to face with Shift, was Nek. Anger radiated in his eyes as he stared straight at Shift, who was more than surprised.

"Ayame. Grab on."

Ayame mustered up as much energy as she could and grabbed onto Nek. Before Shift had even fully processed what was going on, Nek and Ayame were gone.... No. That was inaccurate. Shift could feel something troubling -- something very troubling. That energy.... It was him, but it was, at the same time, light. Too light... A warrior of the light.

Turning, prepared, Shift saw what he was afraid of. Behind him, a gust of wind blew. About ten feet away, they were there. Nek, with Ayame in his arms. Inari, her hair blowing with the wind. And... that man. Shift's worst nightmare... Jay Stryder. His other half, who looked at Shift with an unsually serious expression. This... Was about to end.

"Well... I can't say I'm surprised," Shift broke the silence. "I knew it was coming. I knew you were coming. I just didn't know win. That's the thing about being a Templar, isn't it? Being able to sense your own destiny... Have you ever done it? Just, take a peak into your own future?"

Jay did not respond, and only watched as Shift held out his hand. The whiteness of Deletrius began to shift, to change to darkness. The landscape around them began to swirl.

A silver bubble surrounded Ayame, and she floated lightly into the air, protected by Nek's temporal energies. Nek drew his blade.

"Nek," Jay finally spoke. "Inari. This is my fight."

"Master," Nek replied, trying to reason.

"We want to help!" Inari added.

"Not this time," Jay replied, "I've let him go free for too long. He's killed.... way too many people. This is my burden to bare. This is my own fight to have. You can't help me this time. The place Shift is about to take me... This is the one place that you can't go. I'm sorry."

"Jay... What are you saying?" Nek replied.

"Watch out for her, Nek. You found a cute one," Jay said, managing one of his old fashion smiles. "Inari. Your compassion is your greatest weapon. You care for others more than you care for yourself. Don't stop. Don't ever stop."

Jay turned and peered into Inari's eyes, and found himself lost.... He embraced her, and the two shared a passionate kiss. Jay knew that he might not have another chance to tell her -- no, show her -- how he felt about her. Or, well... How he felt about anyone.

"Go... Now! Hurry!" Jay shouted.

"Jay, please, don't-"

"Go!"

The darkness surrounded Jay, and he was gone. Deletrius returned to its normal, white self. Shift and Jay had vanished... But Nek and Inari couldn't bring themselves to do what their master had said. Their feet were glued to the ground. They couldn't bring themselves to leave.

And then a voice whispered...

"You should have listened to your master."

Turning sharply, Nek and Inari looked for Shift, but he wasn't behind them. It was Shift's voice coming from... Ayame's body, inside the bubble.

"Now, you're mine," Shift laughed.

The bubble began to collapse in on itself, the temporal energies of it being absorbed into Ayame's body.

I have to fight it.

Ayame was still alive. She was still inside somewhere. And she was fighting for her life. This bastard thought he could control her body!? She wouldn't let him. She couldn't let him. She had to fight. She had to live. She had to... Be... FREE.

You can't stop it, Shift told her. I control you.

She no longer heard Eric Mann's voice. She realized it now. She was free... Eric Mann was dead. Her course was unwritten. Her destiny was unclear. She controlled herself. Shift did not control her. She... Was not going to die today. No. And while she could feel her body tugging away at the temporal energies that surrounded her body, she knew that she couldn't let it be her end.

She could hear Nek's voice.

"Ayame! You have to fight it! The temporal energy is like a poison to your body in it's raw form... Normal beings weren't made to see the face of time... You have to push the energy out! Fight it!"

Shift was trying to stop her. He was trying desperately to stop her. She could hear him yelling in her mind, but she silenced him out. She ignored him. She wouldn't fall prey to his ways. She would be free... Or she would die. No. She wouldn't die. Not now.

So she locked the Temporal energies away. Instead of letting it consume her entire body, she picked one place.... Her eyes. She couldn't get rid of the temporal energies. But she could concentrate it. So she did. She concentrated all of the temporal energies... Into her eyes. And Shift's voice inside her head? That too.

...And then, she sealed it there.

...Silence.

And at last, Ayame realized.... She was free.

Her eyes closed.... It was time to rest now.

At last, her body entered the rest she needed -- she fell into a coma.

"Sir!"

Yairhoff Haydenn stood in complete uniform, at attention, on the bridge, awaiting Aki Sora's response. He was trying hard to keep composure -- not because he was in the midsts of Aki Sora. Hell, he'd been Eric Mann's personal assistant back in the day. He'd met everyone from the late Admiral himself to the councilmen and commanding officers of the fleet. And no. He wasn't the Director's personal assistant any more.

He was the errand boy, and he'd just had one hell of a day.

She cleared her throat, smoothed out her uniform, and stood at attention as Colonel Tarkov approached her bed, which she'd so nearly escaped from. Noticing his smile, she looked at Tarkov and the eyes and replied, "Colonel!"

Staff Updates / An explanation.
« on: September 13, 2013, 07:13:57 PM »
Greetings fellow humans!
Allow me to explain what you're viewing. This board is the archives for Seasons 4 and 5 of the Opposing Kingdoms roleplay, a play-by-post founded in 2006. This particular board operated from 2009 till the time of this posting -- September 2013 -- though officially, IC Activity was shut down in May. The reason for said shut-down: the board was on the verge of death.

With the majority of our member-base gone, what few of us whom were left bonded together to rebuild. The software this board runs on no longer meets the needs of our project, and we have relocated to begin a new chapter of our board's history. As of the time of posting, our new location is:

http://opposingkingdoms.com/forums

You will find that the index of THIS board is particularly long -- we have moved old and destroyed sections of the board back to their original place to allow for better archiving. You are now viewing the board in all it's glory -- scars and all. Please enjoy reading over the memories we had over the years. To give you a bit of a guide in your reading experience, I recommend you start with the topics listed below:

"Attention: Go back in your homes. This area is officially under quarantine for suspected presence of dangerous chemicals. This is not a drill."

The man's voice was loud, resounding. The sight was something like a war zone -- which, of course, this planet had been, just a few hours ago. Rubble in the streets, ashes everywhere. Children crying. Currently, a tank was driving down Road 493, better known as Maple Lane Avenue. From this tank, a single man, well armoured with a small, black device -- a voice amplifier -- was telling people to get back in doors, which they kindly did. Behind the tank, to help encourage the people, were what must have been a hundred men armoured with ZPAA equipment, marching in step.

This was the new normal for the Zarethians.

Inside the tank, there were three other men.

"My God," one said. "What the hell have we come to?"

"The brink of the end of our civilization," the other replied.

"This isn't right. The war's over. This isn't how it should be."

"What did you expect? A finish line? A medal? Just keep your head down and do your job."

"Right... But... terrorists? Really? We finish kicking these Revenge guys' asses, and now, we have to deal with this? What the hell is wrong on this planet?"

"Something terrible," the other replied, "Something... very... very... terrible."

    _REFUGEE CAMP ECHO
    CENTRAL COURTHOUSE RUINS

The central courthouse had been hit hard. The entire district around it had -- much worse than most areas on the planet. There were only a few buildings left in sight. Bodies littered what had once been streets. Blood coated what had once been concrete. There was some effort to organize the madness currently ongoing -- bodies being sorted, attempts to identify them. A small area outside the courthouse itself had largely been cleared of debris to make way for tents. A camp had been set up here to aid those who needed it, and it was quickly becoming a huge camp -- a place to go for those who's homes had been destroyed, those who needed medical supplies.

And more importantly... Those who needed hope.

Inside a hospital tent, anyone with medical training -- and many without -- flurried around trying to help the dying. On one particular stretcher, there was a woman, eyes closed... And then, they opened. Taking in the surroundings. Trying, desperate, so desperate, to understand what was happening -- what had happened -- what was going to happen. Trying. Trying.

Kveta Kauliya was alive. And awake. Glancing down, she could see that she was still dressed in her military uniform. She hadn't been military, of course, until... Well... A few hours ago. Every able soul had been needed -- to help fight. She suspected they would return her status to civilian now that the war was over. But then, she kind of liked the ring of Lieutenant Kveta Kauliya. It helped to have friends in high p-

She shot up straight in the bed, and a nearby medic quickly came to calm her down.

"Ma'am, you're recovering from a gunshot wound. Please, you have to be still, or you'll tear your stitches!"

"My friend! The man I was travelling with! Did he make it?"

The woman looked down at her clipboard, searching. "Patient Number 4991... Um... I'm sorry, ma'am. There must be some kind of mistake. You were found alone. Your vehicle was ambushed. There was nobody else in the vehicle. What was his name? I can -"

"That's okay," Kveta replied, swinging her legs around to the side of the bed and standing.

"Ma'am, you need to -"

"Thank you for your help," Kveta cut the woman off, "Keep up the good work. History will remember people like you as heroes in the aftermath of this tragedy."

And with that, Kveta walked away.

BALEVILLE CITY; 200 MILES EAST OF THE CAPITAL CITY
MARION-ABBY SPACEPORT
EMERGENCY OFF-WORLD DOCKING

From all over the galaxy, and beyond, help was arriving by the shiploads. The space over Tefillin was immaculate, with ship upon ship of so many different nationalities, everywhere. From each of those hundreds of ships, smaller landing crafts were being deployed, and many were landing at the Marion-Abby Spaceport, where emergency docking had been set up for relief effort volunteers. It was one hell of a sight. It was help.

"FRC, this is Kappa Epsilon Fate Niner, Bird 112, requesting permission to dock."
"112, this is flight control, you have clearance to dock in hangar Charlie, dock 4. I repeat -- hangar Charlie, dock 4. Over."
"Understood, flight control. You have no idea how good it is to hear you guys are alive down there."
"Yeah, we're just glad to see help coming so quickly. Watch your landing. Our auto-docking systems are down, so it's a real bitch."

As the K Empire transport bird number 112 glided into it's designated hangar bay, Shane Mikein felt like he was in a daze. Just a few hours ago, he'd been on the verge of death on a Narrikian planet as it neared it's final moments. Now, he was here... Alive. Working with a K Empire humanitarian group. On Tefillin. His life, over the last couple of hours, had been hell -- and now he was entering the left-behind ruins of a war zone. This was not what he'd imagined he'd be doing today when he woke up.

And as, minutes later, he and the rest of the team he was travelling with rode away from the space-port in a large jeep, he found himself looking out in the distance... Thinking. Wondering.

"The entire planet's under martial law," he heard one K Empire relief worker say, "Everyone make sure they have their ID's ready. We're going to be hitting quite a few checkpoints."

What the hell had happened?

Caelum / Re: The Other Sages
« on: August 01, 2013, 07:23:59 PM »
The response would be enough to take some, if not most, of the masses that were gathering in the streets of Caelum by surprise...

A giant arm shot forth out of the puddle, through a wall, towards the masses outside. An arm made of the same golden liquid as the woman. It was... An arm of protection. It did not attack, but it did sort of symbolize a hand stopping the army... It was telling them to stop. Radiating with Dust of Creo, the army would feel something supernatural coming from this arm, something they could not quite describe. But it was not a threat. Yet.

Inside, the woman continued.

"You ask what the work is... You ask why you need an army. A great.... enemy has arisen. STEP FORTH, sons of the past... And take the reigns of the future. Allow me to show you... Your enemy."

Holding out her hands, a golden sphere of light formed between them. The golden sphere became slightly transparent, and the twins would be able to see a picture in the middle of the sphere... A picture of a growing army of all kinds of beings, marching loudly. Humans, sages, "angels", "demons", Aralangs, Relorians, and so much more. The army wore dark uniforms, almost like jumpsuits, made of a strange, black fibre, with red marks upon them. And where were they marching?

Through the darkness that was Plex.

Caelum / Re: The Other Sages
« on: July 30, 2013, 07:20:58 PM »
Suddenly, from the other side of the portal, there came in a swift moment, a sign of the future, and the shape of things to come. Let it be recorded, then, my dear readers, that this was the mark of destiny. Something exquisite was about to happen, but any particular sage in the realm would not know why, only that it was true. Yes, they would feel it, radiating from the portal, the sense of creation, grand creation, something indistinctly familiar to the sages, buried in their DNA, a trace of a memory of the ancestors who were once likewise created... An instinct of fate.

And from the other side of the portal, there came a voice, radiating into Caelum, a voice of majestic angels, singing an ancient song, long forgotten by the creations of the embodiments -- a war hymn from the Harbinger.

"The reaper comes to see you.
Reaper comes to see you.
Holding out a soul to steal.
The reaper wants to eat you."

Bubbling.

The form of a woman began to rise from the puddle, a woman singing in the chorus of angels, her voice crisp and clean. The woman was made of golden liquid, like the puddle itself, and seemed to be wearing a dress, covering her body, stopping just above her bust. With golden eyes and skin and clothes, she blinked at the group as she continued singing the dark hymn until it had ended, and the voices of the angels radiated in an after-glow, a hum, gently heard in the background, as the woman began to speak.

"Destruction. Are you ready to begin your father's work? The time has come, and a great crisis has spread throughout your realms. Alas, come forth, and take your reigns as one voice upon your lieges. Your army awaits you."

Appearing in a shimmer of light before the two twins was a sort of golden puddle, right on the ground. It looked simply like a puddle of water, but it had a strange, golden tint, radiating with the Dust of Creo -- a special residue that typically appeared around newly created things. Created, as in, from nothing -- as in, by the embodiment of Creation. That could only mean one thing... This puddle began to swirl, like a portal on the ground, awaiting to fulfil its duty.

Fluuuffff.
The sound and sight of sand rising up into the air from the sand-dune, combined with a voice from behind the dune itself, brought Zere right back to his senses. YES YES YES. IT WAS TIME TO FINALLY FUCKING MASSACRE THIS MOTHERFUCKER. AT. FUCKING. LAST.
"BOOM BOOM BOOM!" Zere yelled, almost like a little child, excitement in his voice as his swirling, giant ball of sand went flying at the sand dune. The high velocity of the spinning, swirling sand in Zere's ball, combined with the massive but static sand-dune. The result would be fucking chaos. And Zere loved it. It was time... TO FINALLY PLAY. ZERE WANTED... TO DESTROY!

"BOOM BOOM BOOM!" he repeated. As the massive sand-ball was about to crash with the sand-dune, something interesting happened... Each grain of the sand-ball suddenly lit on fire.

Meanwhile, as this happened, Zere prepared for his next attack. Biting into his finger, he winced as he tore into his skin. Letting drops of blood hit the sandy ground of the moon, Zere muttered the proper incantation as he gathered magic in the soles of his feet, slowly emitting the magic into the ground... "Leskara veuueu've makuchoor, zekajriu."

A huge, black circle began to form, etched into the ground around Zere, with him standing at the center.

Nebula 7 Moon - Field Of Absolution

"I'm going to fucking kill you, you little bitch," Zere calmly proclaimed, his voice being echoed through the thin atmosphere of the moon as he searched for his prey.

Boooom-SPRHRHEHLR-whoooooooooooosssshhhh. A sand-dune seemed to explode, before a gust of wind met the sand, picking it up. The mass of sand began to fly into the air, revealing Zere, standing where the sand-dune had been. As the sand began to form a massive ball in the air, Zere began to walk forward, and the ball seemed to follow him, floating high above him as together he and the ball walked across the valley of sand on the moon. He could see, out of the corner of his eye, the distant gleaming of the planet of Nebula 7... How he'd enjoyed his trip there.

Yes. It had been fun, massacring all those people... Until this little fucker showed up. He'd chased the motherfucker all the way to the moon... And Zere just needed to... KILL HIM!

Now a bit more agitated, Zere yelled out, "SHOW YOURSELF, YOU LITTLE BITCH! I want... to taste... YOUR BLOOD!"

His head dropped back as he emitted the sound of laughter -- maniacal laughter. It was time to begin.

Captain's Report:

Friends,
It has been a long time in the making but it is the end of an era for this board. No, we are not shutting down forever. Many of you know all too well that there are those of us who feel that this story is not yet quite done. However; drama has infested the board. The story itself has grown dull recently and many of our best roleplayers have begun to lose interest. Truthfully, we have seen this coming, and we have tried to use events and staff changes to delay the inescapable fact that the board is dying.

It's time to take the board down. Over the next unspecified amount of time (probably a few weeks), those who chose to volunteer in assisting will work together, treated equally as staff members. Together, we will rebuilt the roleplay from the ground up, something which hasn't been done in four years since the launch of Shattered Planes, which occurred after a year-long hiatus. We're hoping we won't be down for a year. :)

There's a lot to be done. And when we relaunch, this board will be brand spanking new.

We're excited about this. We really are.

Stay tuned for more information about you can help.

- K2323, Co-Founder of the Opposing Kingdoms Roleplay.

Outerverse / Those From The Shadows, Part II: ...Rise And Fall
« on: May 09, 2013, 12:43:28 AM »
Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Two figures. One dressed in a red robe and the other in a blue robe. Both of the robes have gold markings. They are men with odd markings on their faces. One has long, white hair, and the other has short, black hair. Their eyes are red, with strange circles around them. They float outside the Outerverse, in the Dimensional Vacuum, with a barrier around them which is being bombarded by dimensional radiation. They are... Watching, their eyes locked on the outer-walls of the Outerverse, which appear like a giant cocoon shell lined with some sort of energy, swirling, ever swirling.

"You ready?" the one with white hair asks the other.
"Yeah," the other replies.
"You understand the mission, right?"
"Get in. Get the contact. Get out."
"Yeah... And one more thing."
"What?"
"Don't die."

They both pulled out two devices, small devices, from their pockets. The devices were small, black boxes with a single, red button which they both pressed. Two AAM fields arose around them. Eyes locked on the outer-walls, they were ready. It was time to begin.

"Operation Prometheus's Theft... Begins... Now."

Boom.

An incredible explosion occurred inside the Outerverse, high in the sky.

It wasn't long before the growing Japaen movement spread to Eiden. While Gyokoru had been the birthplace of the resurgence, Eiden was like a new paradise for the sages who had once called Japae home. It was the closest thing to Japae in the known universe. It wasn't long before Japaens from all over the universe flocked to Eiden, many coming from Gyokoru. A new home. Alas, it was only rightfully so that this was the destiny of the Japaens... To re-emerge from the darkness.

New Westhot / BURN THE JAPAENS

"KILL THE JAPAENS!"

There was chanting in the streets as a group of Japaens walked down a street on New Westhot, dressed in the ceremonial robes of the Old K Empire. Shouts lined at the Japaens were resounding. Scum of the universe. The Japaens found rocks being thrown at themselves. This scene was not unique to New Westhot. In fact, it was common all throughout the universe. Alas, a massive flocking to Gyokoru was underway as the Japaens found themselves rising once more.

<< Yeah, well, let's just say Level One isn't all it's cracked up to be after all. We'll debrief later. I'll try to make contact with some of your agents. My primary mission objective is to take Memorial at all costs, though this certainly doesn't make things easy. We'll be in touch. >>

Turning to face Michael, Reli did not entertain his question about communication devices. "Come on. Let's go," he ordered, walking back to the door of the armoury and phasing through it, back into the dark hallway. He was now loaded up with weaponry, and the Wake Mechanism box he'd just placed in the planet's soil was digging deeper and deeper into the continent's soil. The quakes will begin soon. Now, it was time to begin the attack.

Now, it was time to take the planet by storm.
