Rules of Engagement
« on: October 12, 2010, 05:16:59 PM »
This is how we'll do things. We lack the almighty shuffler that CLTCG had to support it's TCG, so we'll do our own thing involving the chatbox's private channels.

Wars will consist of 3 people: The two duelists and a referee. The duelists will do the things they always do; duel with cards. The referee however will be responsible for 3 things:

1. Drawing cards for the players and drawing their starting hands
2. Prevent Cheating
3. Take notes of the game at hand.

Duels will be conducted on the respective topic issuing the topic, and the format is as follows.

The following is a post of how a turn should be typed.

---Draw Phase---
I draw a card

---Effect Phase---
Skipped <OR> <card name>'s effect activates.

---Amass Phase---
I play a character <OR> I kick <character name> and <character name> to play a character <OR> I play a planet <OR> I pay ___ soul from <character name(s)> to cast a summon/spell <OR> I pay ___ Tech Levels from <planet name(s)> to build a unit/perform a feat <OR> Skipped.

---Battle Phase---
Skipped. <OR>

-Declaration Phase
My <Units/summons/berserkers names> attacks your <opposing planets, berserkers, characters, units, summons, etc.>.
(This is how the declaration phase is worked out.
<card name> attacks <opposing card> for ___ damage.
<Card name> attacks <blargh name> for ___ damage. <If any, state any effects here when related to battles.>
I cast <Spell name> at <card name> for ___ damage. <Effect of spell stated here.>
I perform <Feat name> at <card name> for ___ damage. <Effect of feat stated here.>

That ends the first person's post. What next? The opposing duelist must carry out the vindication phase!

-vindication phase
My <card name> blocks your <card name> and is now at ___ HP. <If any, state any effects here when related to battles.>
My <unblocked card name> sustains direct damage. <If any, state any effects here when related to battles.>

-calculation phase
<Card name>: Life = ____
<Card name>: Life = ____
<Card name>: Life = ____

---End of turn---

---Draw Phase---
...

And the process continues until a planet is destroyed.

So how are cards drawn? We'll be using the chatbox for a while for this. Each player will go into their own private channels, and both will invite the referee to them. Then, the referee will roll dice for drawing cards (the command is /roll 1d6 , 1 die, 6 sides, or 7d40 , 7 dice, 40 sides.) There was a specific reason why I told you to number all of your cards in the deck construction topic: those numbers will be used for the dice.

The referee will roll 7d40 to begin with (If your deck is 40 cards. If it's a different number, like 63, then 7d63.). If the referee gets any duplicates, the second/third duplicate number is moved up one digit (So say your draw numbers are 2,2,5,7,4,8,21. That second two automatically becomes a 3.)
Once you have your hand, the referee should cross off what cards you've already drawn, so if the number is rolled again, the referee has the option to move the number up one digit, or re-roll. At the beginning of each turn, the referee will /roll 1d40  for your drawn card.

So here's the drawing system.

Both players make their own private channels.
Both players invite the referee to them.
The referee will /roll 7d40 to determine your starting hand and deal with duplicates in the player's respective private channel. This way, the other player cannot tell the opponent's hand.
The referee marks off what cards the player just drew
The duel begins, the referee will /roll 1d40 for the next drawn card. Duplicates are dealt with.
The referee marks off what card the player just drew

The notes I'm looking for from the referee are quite simple.

What cards sealed the war's win?
What cards seemed pretty much useless?
Describe both player's playing style in two sentences, one for each.
What are your thoughts on the war?
Did anything look overpowered?

The referee doesn't have to answer all of these, but just one or two would be fine.
