Striking a Deal
« on: May 30, 2011, 08:30:08 PM »
OOC Can we use this for the beginning part of Zakary talking to his Zet workers? I couldnt find a more suitable place.

Zakary was walking through the laboratory rooms of his K'olar Industries space station. The secret one that only his most trusted people were allowed to come to and even they weren't allowed in the manufacturing labratories. Zakary wasnt paranoid about them finding out the secret recipe of his tech or anything, he just wanted to protect his most valuable resources: The Zet. Odd looking bio-engineering geniuses, the Zet were wiped out by something a long time ago.

Now, Zakary could sympathize. He was good friends - and business partners - with the Zarethians, who lost their original homworld a while back too. They bought the goods that the Zet helped him manufacture. The diatranium, a metal-like organic compound programmed to 'heal' itself over time was the best seller. He had other, odder technologies in mind and in the process of making but they werent complete yet.

He walked past the carbon palladinuim-steel alloy walls and into the sliding door that led to where the Zed lived. It was a comfortable existence, he thought. It was just about all they asked for other than food and some shiny objects. He walked up to one of the Zet.

"How is the coral armoring coming along, Akaili?" He asked curiously, peering over his shoulder.

"Ah, yes, CEO K'olar! Yes yes, its a very interesting idea, and quite a challenge as well!" Akaili said hyperactive-ly, yet still remaining focused on his work. The green-skinned humanoid took the sample he'd been looking at from under a microscope, and poured it onto a testing table. Once it came into contact with the outside air, it immediately began to spread along the table while the inner areas hardened, a hyper-accelerated view of the life of coral, except that it was outside the water. Once it spread to a certain point, he sprayed it with some form of liquid, which it responded to by stopping its spreading and immediately hardening into the bone compound. "Dont worry, this liquid wont affect the final product, just need something to stop it from spreading uncontrolled while in the testing stages. Hm...Wonder if they've managed to get Klasin's arm out of the coral when some fell on it? Hope it wasn't as damaging as it sounded; the material seems to metabolize anything around it in order to facilitate its spread. We've so far got the hyper-acceleration down...We juuuuust need to make it stronger. And, uh, be able to stop it from just growing and growing and, um, well, you saw Klasin's arm, completely overtaken by it...Anything you needed otherwise?"

"Ah... I've got to go check on him later then. Everything seems under control here..." Zakary said, nodding. He was pleased with the progress the Zet had made. When it came to their area of expertise, none could find a better match. On the other hand, the Zet were eccentric. They were paid in 'shinies' afterall. A thought struck his mind. A sudden curiosity. "Hey Akaili, what happened to the rest of your race? I havent heard any historic reports about them... No findings or anything. Nothing in the extranet."

He waved his hand dismissively, as though it were a rather boring topic. "Project DELTON happened. First attempt at creating a artificial species of life, a living, breathing, thinking creature. Long time ago, too, before my generation's time, and we rarely left our system back then, so I dont see why you would find it on the extranet. You might find a few reports about the few Zet that left our system, though. Those news agencies seemed to be fascinated with us for some reason."

"Right..." Zakary nodded absentmindedly. "I couldn't imagine why...." Yes I could, he thought, these poor sods make up the bulk of my technology department. They're genuises and cost little.... if it were anyone else they might enslave them... "I take it project DELTON was a success at creating the life form but it went rampant or some such?" He asked.

He nodded slightly, not really seeming to pay the topic much heed. "Yes yes, you could say that. More that he was hurt-emotionally, that is-during this early stage. Understandable at how he could take those measures, even if extreme. But, none of us, nor our family, were there. Dont know exactly what happened."

"Do you know the co-ordinates of the last known location of project DELTON?" Zakary asked him. He wanted to find and speak to this creature. See if it could be reasoned with. He was sensing a possible business venture, and he was curious.
