It's not a rip to have Unicorns, Pegasus's, and Equines... Sure MLP has them but so does basic fiction. Trust me, I use to be a Unicorn/Pegasus fanatic. And MLP got the combination Unicorn-Pegasus from fiction as well. 

Equine is the mythological form of a horse. That's why I said Equine Sage and not Horse Sage.

Anyway, I took Latin in Middle school, and hardly remember any of it. Equs, or something like that probably spelled completely different with the exact same phonetics to it. Equine, the mythical horse you speak of Hikaru, comes from that, as do words such as equestrian. Also, I think I've heard the word equine used to describe an ordinary IRL horse.

And I think after hearing the words Dovapony I would actually watch an episode if not for fear of people seeing it over my shoulder...

Equine does in fact mean Horse.
