Kurkha, the Fire Bear
« on: August 25, 2011, 07:46:32 AM »
Kurkha
Age:
17
 Gender:
Male
Race:
Enforcer
Place Of Birth:
Confey Woods
OCCUPATION:
Enforcer
 Personality:
Tough and disciplined, Kurkha has learned to say few words and listen to many. He abides by traditions religiously, and very rarely jests or jokes. He is known to smile when he sees things he respects, like other disciplined warriors, but has a very thick shell hiding most of his real emotion due to his harsh training. Lately however, he has been acting uncharacteristically. He gets lost in his own thoughts, forgetting things occasionally. His eyes betray worry, and his fighting seems apathetic though effective. He walks like one who doesn't know his purpose.

Alliance:
Yin, the Great Enforcer
Biography:
Kurkha's story varied little from the other Enforcers. Hand-picked from the forests of Autumnavia by Yin himself, Kurkha, a non-sentient bear, was given a Spirit, and a great changing came over him. She stood upright, his physiology changing slightly as his body shifted to this new stance, his paws becoming leathery hands with retractable claws, and he gained the ability to speak, along with Sentience. One of the biggest changes however, was his gain of magic ability, which required hard training to learn. Instantly, Kurkha was thrown into training, in order to earn his title as a true Enforcer, and some of the special abilities that come with it.

Kurkha was given an old soul, a battered soul, which already knew about learning and fighting. Though it's personality didn't reveal itself completely at first, the knowledge from the old spirit gradually began to reveal itself to him. It was a slow, incomplete process, and as with most things involving Spirits cannot exactly be explained in normal terms. He was not given the Spirit's memories, per se, but he was given his instinct, and small nuggets of wisdom from first hand experience. Due to this advantage, Kurkha rose through his beginner lessons easily, much faster then most, attracting the attention of higher authorities.

As he got more into magic however, his tutors noticed he never used fire in his arsenal, which made them curious. They repeatedly tried to teach him basic spells again, which lead to him leaving the lessons. Enforcers-in-training do not leave their lessons.

Enraged at his disregard, his instructor found him in quarters, giving him a long, drawn out lecture. He told him that just as the Great Enforcer gave him a spirit, so could he take it away. That he should be mindlessly grateful and loyal, as it was his nature, and that he had to repay the Great Enforcer his debt, in a manner of speaking, and he should never show weakness or walk out again. With this lecture ringing in his ears and the spirits subtle yet clear messages, Kurkha humbled himself, giving in to the authority and facing up to his primal instinct: fear of fire.

He dove into the lessons again, taking classes dedicated to elemental magic, and through a five year process mastered the art of fire, no longer afraid of it in the slightest. He took the Rite of the Robe at age seven, passing easily and becoming promoted to full Enforcer, wearing his robes proudly. The next seven years were a blur of skirmish, fighting, victory, loss, injuries and more experience, and he gained a reputation among both forces, being promoted to the high rank of Enforcer Ate and being one of the Great Enforcer's personal choices for battle. The smell of singed hair and smoke followed him everywhere, reinforcing his reputation a fearless, mindless killer for the Great Enforcer.

And that's all he ever saw himself as, until age sixteen when he had an encounter with a Karmagan who had been given a Spirit, and, through no intervention of the Grand Revoker's forces, refused to follow it's advice, sticking with his simple life. When confronted, the Karmagan stood his ground, not budging even with the seven-feet tall bear in his face. Kurkha had been ordered to persuade the man to listen to the Spirit or take it by force, and well doing so the man defiantly said he would not. When Kurkha told him it was for the greater good, the man replied: "By whose standard? I do not wish to do it, all I want is to be free! Tell me how is that bad?" After another five minutes of empty arguments, Kurkha killed him and ferried the soul back to the Great Enforcer.

Though he continued to serve his duties and appeared unfazed, the words still ring in his head a year later. I want to be free... How is that bad? His Spirit conflicts his emotion, telling him to stop thinking of these things, but he finds that he cannot. As Autumnavian war continues to rage greater then before he found himself with more questions.

All I think of when I read this and see the picture is Kenai and Koda, lol, and start humming Phil Collins songs.

But anyways..

1. You said he was given a Spirit but not the spirits memories. Memories are of the spirit and as a general rule its impossible to completely erase them. Suppress and such, yeah, but they're still there unless the Spirit's been wiped blank and is just a mass of Astral. So how does the spirit not possess the memory anymore?
2. Where do the spirits come from? Ties into the first question.
3. Animals technically already have a spirit in terms of Astral. That's how there are animal spirits and guides. But elaborate ?
