Crew of the Hand & Strings
« on: December 18, 2012, 02:00:58 AM »
Character Name: Ashton "Ash" Ripley AKA Boulevard Quervo
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance: Click
Alliance: His sister first, his captain second, his crew third
Personality: Ash is a raucous extrovert, ready at any given moment to poor out his spirit and determination into whatever cause piques his interest at the time. In one way, he's an unpredictable loose cannon, but he's crammed a lot of living into a short span of time and has some of the experience to back up his gut. He's quick to smile and snap jokes, often at other peoples expense, but when things get serious he's grounded and ready to put his life on the line. He cares about his sister above all else, and when things happen to her he tends to act irrationally.
Inventory: All manner of firearms.
Combat Level: 2
- Magic  Level: 0
- Physical Strength: 4
Character's History: Ash was born to a venerated veteran and senator on earth. But that title came with a price, and the boy almost never saw his father. His mom did his best to raise her, but she wasn't the best mom and usually pawned him off on to nannies, which became harder and harder to find. When his sister was born, she gave her hell, even in the cradle. He was often punished for it but it didn't stop him, his cruelty knew no bounds. Pulling hair, shoving her over, name-calling. He grew wise enough to do it behind the adults backs. But all the grabs for attention did nothing to bring his father back, and in fact drove his parents further apart.
And the day came that his mother left, without a word to him or his young sister. He was 8 years old, and that hurt him more than scratch or shove he had ever given his sister. And in the blink of an eye his life had changed. There's a song on earth that goes, "The coldest heart can be brought to life when it's thrown into the fire of good byes." Ashton didn't even get a good bye. But in the pieces of his life, Ashton's young, twisted heart melted and reformed, tempered and hot. Like a phoenix from the ashes of his life, he rose as a new person. His father delved deeper into his career, leaving the young man on his own. He started to be a bit kinder, listened to nannies out of respect. He studied harder, and became something more than a playground bully.
But most dramatically of all, Ashton started to treat his sister very differently. He began to be very kind to her, standing up for her, helping her with schoolwork, cooking the occasional meal when a nanny was busy. His heart for that girl was incredible, and she reciprocated. Nobody had seen two siblings as close as these two were, especially in the ritzy snobbery of high class political America. Ashton became interested in following his father's footsteps to join the military, and started to learn what he good about the ways of war. He even trained himself in firearms as a youth, teaching his little sister lessons along the way.
But alas, the world changed again, more dramatically then a simple divorce. Earth was practically destroyed by nuclear weapons. Ash watched in horror from a shelter for America's elite, his sister's hand clung tightly in his. His father didn't make it; he had been in a foreign country in diplomatic business. When those left standing exited the shelter, they found a new world when Treena took over. And Ashton hated every second of it. His father was a conservative politician, forged in war. The boy dreamed of a military life, to be a tool of democracy, a part of something huge. And he loved guns. Treena's dictatorship was heartbreaking.
Him and his sister got involved in certain anarchist movements in attempts to overthrow Treena's ruling. They met with no success, of course, but the sentiments sunk in deep and affected both of them as they entered and entirely new world. The pair lucked out by catching a ship off planet, almost as if fate intervened. The two got lost in the possibilities and set out on lives of adventure, and Ash eventually became the first mate of a vessel simply called the Hand & Strings.

Character Name: Ashlee "Lee" Ripley AKA Sunset Daniels AKA Sheena AKA rockandrollharlot AKA Slabba the Hunt AKA xxCable_readyxx AKA RAMONE67 AKA Slammin' Jamie AKA Sonic the Sledge-hog AKA Rude Girl Renee AKA(regrettably) xXx_MCR4ever420_xXx
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance: Click
Alliance: Her brother first, the crew second, anyone she's slept with third, the captain fourth
Personality: She's an odd one, this girl. She hides herself from others, but instead of shells she wears majestic masks. To everyone she wears a different mask, no one's really sure what she'll do next. She's actually quite stable, and realizes that she doesn't know everything. She likes to hang back and let her brother lead, he always did it best, though she resists most other authority. In the end, she is a soul searching for adventure and meaning, making her unpredictable. The only thing that keeps her grounded is her brother, and she leans on him as much as she needs to.
Inventory: Variety of firearms, likes submachine guns.
Combat Level: 1.5
- Magic  Level: 0
- Physical Strength: 3
Character's History: Ashlee wasn't the spoiled brat or the pretty princess. While her brother snogged all the attention he could in their childhood, she had to fend for herself. The emotional abuse she suffered from him didn't help either, and as a child she was very reclusive. When she got the news that her already distant mother was leaving, she felt like her entire world was about to drop out from under her feet. At 5 years old she didn't know if she'd ever make it. She hated her brother so much, and blamed him for every thing that was happening, blamed her father, blamed everybody. Had her brother not stepped up when he had, there is no knowing what might have happened to Ashlee.
But luckily, he did. Choosing not to play the victim, Ashton took the first steps toward manhood at his young age and began to care for his sister. He stood up her for at the snobby school they attended, giving her some much needed breathing room, and helped her in schoolwork and other things. At first, she still drew back from him. Her wounds were too fresh to trust that easily. But years of sincere gestures whittled away at her shell, and in high school Ashlee forged her own unique identity as a one-of-a-kind character. She wasn't very popular because she didn't want to be. She had the love and approval of her brother and that was all she needed. She even shared in his affection for the military, and planned to join the air force as soon as he did.
And when fate intervened and dealt it's hard hand, she took it easier then her brother did. As she got olde,r she would often get lost in the endless wilderness with friends, and grew incredibly fond of weed and all the things of nature. And when the drums of revolution began to beat, however faint, she was in the thick of it. They called her Punk Rock Anarcho Sister Sheena, and she happily delved into the anarchist cause. She actually took up a poetic alter ego called Slabba the Hunt, and did spy work under the name Slammin' Jamie. The revolutions were pathetically futile of course, but it felt good to be a part of something. When the line was drawn, brother and sister found themselves on opposite ends. They believed in the same cause but did not fight it the same way.
She missed her brother, but insisted that what she was doing was right. But an unfortunate incident with some homemade moonshine revealed the nature of the people she called friends. Left for  dead in a stoned and alcohol poisoned state, the only one who came to her rescue was her brother. After a brief recovery period, Rude Girl Renee realized what a life she had lead, and how little it actually meant. He brother didn't say he told her so, and was quick to forgive. Eventually, she longed for real adventure, and followed her brother off the planet and on to the deck of the Hand & Strings.

Character Name: Captain Jemison
Age: 86
Gender: Male
Race: Mechera
Appearance: Dull flat brown painted body, scratched up. Several hidden weapon arms.
Alliance: The welfare of his ship first, Dull Star second
Personality: Jemison is a born follower, deep in denial. He doesn't talk much, and rarely listens. The ship is his number one priority, it is his life. Beyond that he's practically a blank slate, the Mechera aren't known for their thrilling personalities.
Inventory: Uses several pulse weapons mounted on his body as well as a large, handheld pulse shotgun.
Combat Level ): 2.5
- Magic  Level: 0
- Physical Strength: 5
Character's History: Not all the Mechera are as noble as their main empire suggests. Jemison comes from a very scummy backround, his father made his living delivering cargo all around the galaxy and his mother was his one night stand. Born in the slums to a single mom, even the robotic race have social problems. All Jemison dreamed of was to own his own ship and traverse the galaxies in it, no home to return to but open space. That journey had to be fought for, and through the slums he did. He was an older man, still searching for opportunities when it finally came in the form of a shady man recruiting for a political cause. They called themselves the Worlds Without Boundaries. Jemison could care less about the cause or who they hurt, it was his one way ticket to freedom. He took it, and his determination and conservative strategy helped him climb up the ladder of the WWB organization. He was a skilled pilot, and hand picked by Blake Secwound to serve in his Marionette Core. Serving on the crew, Jemison fell in love with the Hand & Strings. It was a beautiful ship with incredible capabilities. The time he spent on it was some of the best of his life.
When the WWB fell and a mutiny was staged against Blake, Jemison had no objections. In the aftermath, there was a fight about who would keep the ship. Seeing his opportunity, Jemison manipulated the remaining crew members into turning on each other, and after throats were slit and challenges issued, he came up from the shadows to claim his very own ship. That was the happiest day of his life. He recruited a new crew and set to open space in his new vessel, a corvette that could outrun just about any ship in space. After some mishaps and lessons learned the hard way, the Hand & Strings officially joined Dull Star in his efforts, Jemison recognizing the need for a higher captain to lead him.

Character Name: Hank Zathos
Age: 76
Gender: Male
Race: Cursed Zarethian
Appearance: Click.
Alliance: Fellow crew members of the Hand & Strings, Dull Star
Personality: Hank is extremely introverted, very thoughtful. He enjoys deep humor and playing with words, which most of his pirate companions don't understand or appreciate. Despite the culture shock he finds himself in, he remains somewhat distant from it. He rarely has much to say, but when he does, it is incredibly deep and insightful. He seems to always know what people are thinking.
Inventory: Josiah
Combat Level: 2.5
- Magic  Level: 2
- Physical Strength:3
Character's History: He was a nobody. Just another face in the crowd. The only thing that made him a little unique was his magic ability, which really wasn't that impressive. He was a "nice guy". Never took to cussin', drinkin', gettin' laid. He played nice. He stayed a virgin until his junior year of college where he got pity sex. He told the girl he loved her. He never saw her again.
He walked away with vague memories of countless nights studying and a four year degree in accounting.
He was born for suburbia. He was the man of a girl's dreams. Safe, dependable, ready to commit, no risk. No thrill. Nothing special. She divorced him ten years later and took their two kids.
Hank kept his job and continued to turn out unimaginative projects. Then it all came crashing down on him in one, sudden, swift blow. Fate intervened and placed, literally on his lap, and opportunity to become extraordinary. Due to strenuous circumstances that would take a lot of time to explain, Josiah, a cursed anti-material rifle, plowed through the window into Hank's 7th floor cubicle and crushed his computer monitor. When he touched it, there was no going back. And he didn't want to.
In the heart of every man is a call for adventure. He had ignored it his whole life, and finally, it was given to him. Eventually, the men who lost Josiah tracked down Hank and wanted him back, but Josiah made his choice and Hank had to fight for the first time in his life. After several loud shots and Tefillin police converging on the scene, Hank and Josiah disappeared. They would never again surface on Tefillin. They took to pirating, Hank was an eagle eye with any gun he picked up. He ended up on the Hand & Strings  and quickly became Chief Gunner Officer. Hank is unsure of his future, but he wouldn't have it any other way.

Personality: Beyond that he's practically a blank slate, the Mechera aren't known for their thrilling personalities.

What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis? Mechera have as wide a range of personality as any other race. They're machines but not AI by any stretch; they were originally a organic race but uploaded their minds into mechanical bodies for artificial longevity. If you got that from that one Mechera I was using with Hawk, Xurtol, she's kinda a anomaly among them. If you want him to be kinda blank and stuff thats fibe, just saying thats actually not the norm for the Mechera. At all. XD
Alsoooo, just a nit-picky point, but Mechera 'slums' really aren't that terrible. If you're poor(and, y'know, actually a Mechera or AI), typically...You just live in Cyberspace. Standards of living and even luxuries are pretty much dirt cheap because there isn't any production cost(74-inch tv? Just resize your data screen and set it to Media channels! Ect) and purchasing your own small area of the cyberworld for yourself(as a home or such) is pretty cheap because it doesn't eat up much actual space on the machines keeping it all running, and the owner of that dataspace has pretty much free reign on how they want it to look without needing to pay a penny extra, so...Again, just a nit-pick and no need to change anything on the profile itself about this.
Also, where do people keep getting the idea that the Mechera are the 'Noble' or 'Good' guys? They have technologies that can make Organics into slave races(Propaganda/Media Hub technologies, which they more or less used to conquer their home Dimension) and if you piss them off they firebomb you with Antimatter(see:Walape). While they're certainly more willing to make allies or try actual diplomacy, at best I'd rate them as 'Neutral', deeefinately not 'Good'.  Thats the Zarethians, hands down. XD
All that said, approved. Just had a few things to say on him(also though please talk to me about it next time you're gonna make a character of one of my races, while I dont have any problems with other people using Mechera or Elementals or Vampires or Possessed or whatever, I much prefer being informed of the core concept in advance is all).
As for the Zarethian dude, the only things I have to really say is Cursed is the term for the object itself, the dude would be called a Possessed Zarethian. Also you'll be RPing for two people more often than not(Hank and Josiah) but of course there isn't always a whole lot you can do with a intelligent inanimate object so eh. Again, as with everyone else, approved.

Do you have what it takes to change your destiny, to defy FATE itself?
Let us test the limits of your abilities, and see if you have the WILL to do what no one else tries.
