The Sunrise

K2323 and his son, Kaleb, sat side-by-side on a clay cliff of the Outerverse, their feet dangling over the side as the looked out into the sky. The vast, artificial sun was rising, and it made for a beautiful morning. They were just taking it in. It was... Beautiful. That was nature for you.

They had been beaten and battered, pushed to their limits over the last few days. Finally, it was over. K2323 had gotten the rest he'd needed for a long, long time... And now, he was enjoying time with his son, who he had not seen in years.

"Your uncle visited me the other day," K2323 revealed.

"Uncle Kai? He's still around?"

"I'm not so sure. He's near death, I know that. He wants to move on peacefully. Your cousin could very well show up sometime soon, though. There's no telling with that crowd."

"What did he say?" Kaleb questioned.

"That I needed to make sure you were well trained. Fiske too. He's right. There's no telling what's out there."

"Yeah, well," Kaleb replied, "I think we all deserve a little break first. Don't you?"

"Yeah," K2323 replied, smiling. "Come on. Let's go. We're going to be late."

"Right," Kaleb agreed, standing up and offering a hand out to his father.

K2323 took his son's hand, standing. Together, the two took a last look at the sunrise.

"Happy new years, dad."

"Happy new years, son."

They teleported away.
