Unless you take action. No, Shattered Planes is not a "piracy" site, but if the new legislation in the United States Congress known as PIPA -- or its twin, SOPA -- is passed, it could have devastating consequences for the entire world wide web. This bill would effectively mandate Internet Providers to censor websites which contain "piracy" -- sites such as The Pirate Bay. However; this would hinder web security progress made over the last fifteen years and start what internet founding father and Google Vice President has described as a "Global arm race of censorship" on the web.

I was onto this thing before it was cool...

Of course, SOPA was never cool. Therefore, I've been on it ever since I've heard of it from http://demandprogress.org/ back last year. By now, I've just about signed who knows how many petitions, emailed my senator, looked a tad at the bill itself--

At any rate, SOPA and... uh, PIPA, is terribad. Why, just yesterday, the government took down Megaupload (EDIT: Derp http://gizmodo.com/5877612/feds-kill-megaupload . Sorry to those that wanted to but didn't get the chance to download those SPTCG images. I didn't have those backed up.) probably to show they dun care about what we think and will do as they please, whether we like it or not, with a bill or not. Regardless, however, we should show our support. The thing worse than a corrupt government who only cares for the money in their pockets is the people whom refuse to do anything.


I stopped trusting the Government long ago. I'm certainly not going to trust them with the internet. The only site I am utterly sure they could never hit with absolutely anything is http://www.something.com/ .

Oh wait, http://109.236.83.66 . Silly government can't even take down a site correctly.

What I got from that...

"It seems we have citizens whose IQ is actually above 10 and I stopped lounging around in my bajillion dollar estate and vacation home to actually notice. I will retract this bill and crawl into my hole until I am paid trillions more dollars to bother bringing it out again."

I hated SOPA partly because it seemed like it could have been a gateway. Give a starving man a million dollars he'll buy food until he's full. Then he'll realize there are other things money can buy.

Precisely. Even with SOPA and PIPA out of the way, we must still be on the watch for censorship bills that could rise in the future.

The bill WAS a mountain. US government could quite literally barge in just about any site whatsoever and shut them down if they even had the ability to hold any sort of copyright on just about anything.

We can type messages here, right? According to the bills, since we are able to do this, we are filthy, filthy criminals because we have the ability to post copyrighted content, such as an excerpt from a book, a picture that belonged to just about anywhere, etc. Even if we don't post or say a single thing, the bills can identify SP as a site full of criminals and, well, shut us down.

We're already on the bad side on a few of the government's agents, AKA a certain police station. They could ask for SP to be brought down to the government, and the bill utterly allows them to do so. Stuff like Google, Wikipedia, photobucket, imgur, or just about anywhere can be taken down with how this bill is worded. Google and Wikipedia haven't been afraid to make their voices known about this either: They threatened to utterly shut down in the USA if SOPA or PIPA were to pass (So I'm told by my brother.).

We can also gather that media outlets didn't want us to know at all. The major media networks mostly seen on TV hadn't even said a single word on SOPA or PIPA until the 18th, where Google and all the other interweb giants blacked out. Then, knowing the bill has failed and it wasn't going to be passed quietly at midnight like so many other retarded bills of our lifetime, our major networks finally let the cat out of the bag and pubicly detested the Bill to not only save face, but also to show us American citizens that they're on our side and whatnot so that we may listen to them further.

Clearly, these people that transferred over knew exactly what the bill was going to do and were probably either bribed or paid to support it. And if not, they just switched to the more popular opinion to, as mentioned by K23, keep their precious votes that they will probably get at election time. Silly Flip-Flopping politicians.

The NDAA for 2012 more or less ensures that US citizens could be imprisoned on US soil without trial indefinitely. Supposedly, it's to stop terrorism, but the government can't be trusted to keep their word on any of this at all. So yeah, while we were attempting to take down SOPA, this behemoth passed by at a midnight meeting and... well, you know.


But yeah. The bill was no molehill to begin with.
