Mazheek are virtually identical to Human beings in most way, besides an incredibly long lifespan (average of 2000 years) that they owe in part to their magical abilities. Their internal make up is mostly the same, except for their digestive system. Their Soul organ is in the place of their stomach, intestines, kidneys, and liver. Anything consumed goes to the soul organ. The soul organ produces large amounts of magic energy to be used, and also draws energy from anything consumed and also converts it to magic. Even things that might kill someone, such as poison, are broken down and converted to magic. alcohol is a potent fuel. Because any waste product is broken down and converted and stored for magic energy, Mazheek don't actually defecate. They do, however, need to eat, as the body needs daily intake to be fueled, but can go for long periods of time without consuming anything, as their body will use magic energy produced by the soul to fuel itself.
The use the magic energy is must be converted into Corporeal existence for whatever purpose they desire. This takes training, and specific thoughts and actions to do, requiring spells to be made for beginners. Eventually, as Mazheek get older and more used to their Soul and abilities, they can improvise spells to devastating effect. If a Mazheek performs a spell enough times, it does not need to do the actions involved with it, becoming a natural act. They can also perform alterations and variations on their spells with ease.
A specific branch of note is Mazheek Runes. Runes are an ancient art, one of the first forms of magic practiced by the their ancestors and used to overthrow their "Gods". Runes can perform a variety of functions, and their application is endless. Runes take long periods of time to apply, and require specific rituals, which is one of the reasons they are so powerful. Though time consuming, Runes actually aren't very hard to make, and don't require much magic to use, put their pay off is very powerful.
To illustrate, we'll use a commonly used Rune, a Tracking Rune. A tracking rune that cannot be removed, even with considerable physical, magical, and technological effort. First, the caster finds a source of either Astral, Magical, or Technological power. This source is typically very powerful, more powerful then even the most powerful individuals. A common example is a large start. The "Source Rune" is applied, and is now drawing massive amounts of Psi energy from the sun. Tracking the Source Rune from the Applied Rune is very difficult, as Applied Runes can only perform their designed function, and more often then not the designed function does not include any way of backtracking to the Source Rune. Particularly devious Runecasters can have several Proxy Runes whose whole purpose is to forward energy from the Source Rune to the Applied Rune. They are very easy to make, and make backtracking a nightmare for anybody involved. Because the Source Rune is applied to a very large source of power, it almost always has more energy then it will ever require. That's why they are so hard to break. Once the Source Rune is applied, the Runecaster then casts the Applied Rune to his target, in this case a sentient being. The Rune is applied to his Spirit, meaning it can be tracked anywhere in Existance via the Watcher Rune, which the Runecaster applies to themself.
To make this even simpler,
Source Rune: Most important rune, draws energy from a powerful source to make the Designed Effect happen.
Proxy Rune: Optional stop, only purpose is to pass energy from the Source Rune to the Applied rune, acting as a faux-Source Rune and making backtracking even harder.
Applied Rune: Draws energy from the Source Rune and actually performs the magic effect.
Watcher Rune: Many variations in names and function, essentially a variation of an Applied Rune that has functions that can be used on other Applied Runes. These functions are exclusively available to the Watcher Rune, usually, none of the other Applied Runes can interact in turn with the Watcher Rune.
