..The Zarethian Inquisition
« on: December 11, 2012, 07:29:10 PM »
(This is a continuation of Unstellar's topic as well)
The Zarethian planet was under siege. It was a normal day on Temar, it was overly hot and humid and the lush vegitation was thriving this time of year. It was mid-day and the artificial sun rotated in the sky above, sending out warmth and light for all the planet's inhabitants. Then a black and red bubble began to engulf the planet. The Zarethian AI had begun their fight with the shields, putting up portal shields to protect what was left of the atmosphere. As they continued their dire fight, many civilian air-cars were dropping out of the sky. Many crashed and burned in the streets, resulting in many a death and maiming. The government was quick to respond to the crisis by having police and military personnel go out and organize disaster-prevention teams.

Meanwhile, in space...

The Zarethian Navy had begun its attempt to stop this disaster from spreading further. Many a frigate raised its shields and began to assault the small position of the cultists. It was mass confusion, and many ships simply stood by and began preparation for the assumed followup attack by moving into mass formations.

The ships attacking the cultists were simple frigates, firing massive pulse cannons and even a few nuclear payloads.

Amid the chaos in space a lone vessel appeared out of warp space. It was a sleek, stylized vessel, painted black and almost in the shape of an eagle or a dragon. It was an intense black, so dark was its coloration that it seemed like a hole in space. Under each of its dark wings were a pair of powerful cannons, on its fore, where the dragon's jaw was sprouted a highly damaging cannon that ripped a hole in dimensions, sucking those caught within the blast radius into another dimension.  Its glassy black exterior had advanced stealth technology and it was virtually invisible to most sensor data. Inside this vessel was a man in a black cloak and stylized mask.
Isoldr was sitting crossed legged in meditation, focusing his psychic power in case there was going to be trouble- and there was going to be trouble. He sat in a completely black room with a sole window out into the purple lines and incomprehensible images of warp space. It was his observatory room and it was his ship. On it was a crack fire team, the crew of the ship and an interesting women named Kveta Kauliya, a Zarethian Hand agent with considerable promise. As he thought of her, he unconsciously tapped into her mind, processing emotions, thoughts and images alike.

And suddenly, they arrived.

OOC: Sorry, it only sucked them through a wormhole. My apologies, I can't even remember the tech I request.

Witnessing the chaos from her place on the bridge, Kveta was most certainly alarmed. The Zarethians were launching nuclear weapons at their own planet to stop the Cultists. Had it really gotten this out of hand? How had the Cultists managed to do such... Awful things on the planet below? And on Tefillin? Who. Were. They? This was her job -- to get information. To find out.

"What's the status of the enemy?" she asked.

As soon as they had launched their attack, the other Vice-Prophets focused their energy into the shield their friend had built around them. And then waited for every attack to hit them, even the nuclear ones. Each had a smirk on their face.
The pulse cannon shots were absorbed almost instantly, the Taint Barrier breaking their energies on impact, converting them to Tainted Energy, and putting it all back into the shield, making it stronger. This energy stored away could also be taken away from the shield and applied elsewhere. The nukes detonated on impact with the Barrier, but the explosion was contained outside of it. All the nuclear energy released that touched the shield was converted just the same, resulting in dramatic increases in energy levels. If the ships weren't far enough away, what was deflected of the blast wave would bounce back to them and could damage them. It was also another EMP.

The Cultists waited, absorbing everything being thrown at them.

As the ships saw that their copious amounts of fire power was doing little to nothing against the ball shield that the cultists had up, the firing quickly dwindled down to nothing as the EMP engulfed them. It, of course, did nothing against the ships as they were proofed against such things during their construction. One enterprising young captain of a Kraken class frigate named the Insurmountable rallied five other ships of the same make and they formed a six pointed star around the cultist's shield in due haste. Once they were assembled, the ships created a large portal that engulfed the cultists and many hundreds of miles excess and teleported that space's contents to a pocket dimension. Once there, the captains singularly cut power from that pocket dimension and it faded from existence.

But as the Insurmountable and his companions moved to make their formation, the Cultists and their shield vanished in the blink of an eye. Nothing but empty space was left behind.

They appeared just as abruptly on the planet's surface, over a town in chaos after the EMP. They unleashed all the energy they had stored in one, sudden, pulse, all the nuclear energy and pulse cannons was dispensed on the planets surface, which would no doubt devastate it and leave behind nothing but craters. The Cultists were shielded from it all by their bubble shield,  and since the energy was moving away from them, it wouldn't hurt them very much anyway.

The energy that poured out of the combined arms of a small Zarethian fleet was immense. In a great, blue-white wave of pure, volatile energy flew out from the cultist's crimson orb of a barrier. This blue-white wave of energy flew out, blowing through nearly five kilometers of the infrastructure that comprised the whole of the capitol city. Concrete and steel melted away and evaporated immediately, the ground itself melted away and buckled under the immense force and heat. Unlucky citizens of the Zarethian empire were caught in the blast and instantly vaporized in a moment of brief, but immense agony.

Billions of people saw the explosion on the horizon, the mushroom cloud that plumed into the highest bits of the sky, seeming to touch the heavens themselves. For a moment, the whole world was silent. And then it came.

"Oh, holy Aser, no!" Isoldr breathed, his eyes suddenly open.

The blast itself was so great that the planet cracked to its core, a great fissure spread across the planet for hundreds of kilometers, opening up as if the maw of hell itself had come forth to consume the unlucky living.  Hellfire and magma burst forth from below, sending toxic fumes up into the atmosphere. Whole cities vanished, falling into the pit, their contents consumed by the molten magma. Across the world, the ground shook, rose and fell and heaved as if the very gods were remaking the whole of the planet into some new, abominable nightmare realm.

For a brief moment, the orange, fiery fissure spread across the planet in a macabre facsimile of a grin. Then, the grin disappeared as the contents of the world's atmosphere, so useful for the facilitation of life, ignited and set the whole world ablaze.

Millions died in the initial blast, but the whole of the planet's population, some ten billion people, died in the aftermath. Ships were incinerated as they attempted to reach orbit, billions of others died where they had stood, laid or sat. For some it was painless and quick, for others, it was much, much worse.

Isoldr was flung back against the metallic walls of his meditative room by the psychic backlash of the sudden deaths of billions.

The crews of the Zarethian ships in high orbit watched in complete and utter silence, struck dumb by the horror they were witnessing. As the planet became a fireball, the crews, many members of whom had family or lived down on what was once a peaceful world, cried out for their fallen friends and family. It was a gradual cry, started by some, picked up by others. It was a banshee's wail of keening grief, generated by the Zarethians innate magical energy. It echoed throughout the whole of the system, sound magically traveling across the stars of the universe. It was a cry of great loss, of mourning and above all, revenge.

It meant war.

Revenge had lost some of their best in this fight. Including Steward Beck, whom would be missed. He was a valuable member. But the scream attracted another entity...
Blame, one of Revenge's forms, appeared in a bright yellow flash. His voice was thrown to all the survivors in the area.
WARRIORS! You have lost another battle! You have lost more friends, more family! Once again, you watch one of your planets burn! HOW DO YOU FEEL?

"Shit."
Kveta felt a wave of sickness cling to her entire body as she dropped to her knees, ready to throw up right then and there. No. Get a hold of yourself. Stand up. We have to get out of here. Oh shit, we have to get out of here. Run. Run. Fucking run.
"RUN!" she screamed at the crew, "RUN! JUMP! GET OUT OF HERE! HURRY!"
The core had gone critical. And in seconds, it would explode, and they would all die. And then, she heard the voice. That deep voice, the voice of Revenge. She didn't know what was going on. She had to keep a clear head. Analyse what the voice said. Warriors -- right -- You have lost another battle! -- it seemed so -- HOW DO YOU FEEL? Honestly? She felt as if her entire world had just collapsed. As if all the light she sought to protect had just been eclipsed by the darkness. More than anything, though, she felt angry. It was time to go to war, and she knew then and there. She was probably going to die fighting this war.
She just didn't want to die fighting this battle.

The keening wail of grief, loss and revenge echoed throughout the system, spreading out like a ripple caused by a thrown rock on the intergalactic scale. As the voice shouted out through the comm-speakers of the ships of the stunned survivors, the wail faded, replaced by a shout of an unfamiliar voice. It was broadcasted across each and every one of the speakers in the system, magically overriding the various comms, the same voice being heard by hundreds of thousands at the same time.

WARRIORS! You have lost another battle! You have lost more friends, more family! Once again, you watch one of your planets burn! HOW DO YOU FEEL? Hundreds of voices shouted at once from the comms.

Most ships were from the Sixth Fleet, veterans from the Lorcar War. All had been hurt and stunned by loss before, the fireball of Temar opening up old, half healed wounds, broke the healing hearts and souls of the Zarethian crews. This voice, mysterious but alluring led many a mind astray, raising the call of fury and revenge. It broke many of the crew's minds. Around the fleet, great crowds of crewman attacked one another in a great, riotous orgy of mindless violence. Many ships' vital systems were damaged, leading them to drift towards the conflagration. Some ships were so damaged by the crew's revolts that they burst asunder as munitions and engine cores were set off, sending debris everywhere.

Those crew who did not immediately lose their minds, found within their souls a deep, unrelenting darkness, a fury born of loss and pain that gripped at their very souls and led them to respond to this voice. It was a unified shout of anger, pain and vengeance that they answered this man with.

Isoldr, groggy from his jostling, his mind tormented from the psychic backlash, staggered out of his room, his nose, eyes and ears leaking crimson trails of blood down his otherwise pale face. The fireball of Temar shown out of his irises. He fell forward as the ship itself lurched forward into warp space, his mind aching as the voice echoed in his skull. How do you feel, Isoldr? A demonic voice from inside his head asked, cackling malevolently. He looked down at his shaking hands, his devastated mind attempting to find some semblance of order. He was angry, angrier then he'd ever been. He wanted to kill, to slaughter. He saught solace, he sought justice. He sought revenge.

Blame felt their seething rage burning. He could feel their Taints already taking root... Their spirits Corrupted... Chills of power shivered through his body. He laughed with pleasure. His heart began beating insanely fast. There was nothing like the rush of mass-Corruption. He decided to stir the pot even more.

The roar of their response was loud and echoing, it was savage and uncontrolled. It was anger, hate and pain all rolled into one. It was blood lust given voice, it was a cry of war.  The crewman of the ship who had not lost all of their sanity, raised a fist into the air as one, hooting and howling a battle cry.
"Revenge!" It said. "Revenge for the fallen! Vindication for the lost!" It chanted over and over. In their minds, they were rooting for justice. In their hearts, they were rooting for Revenge.

As the ship entered warp-space, Kveta, still on her knees, felt faint. Her eyes began to shut, and then open again, blurry. She wasn't focusing. Her brain was elsewhere, and it felt like her body was on fire. She had never before experienced this emotion of -- well, she didn't quite know what she was feeling. Hate? Blame? No, it was stronger than that. She felt revenge. At that moment, she understood everything -- why the cultists had attacked. Why so many had died. Why the Zarethians now seemed bound towards war. It was the power of revenge -- and she was helpless to stop it.

Yairhoff Haydenn tried to rape you.
Yairhoff Haydenn made you this way.
You're a slut whore bitch.
You're so worthless.
He made you this way.

Anger entered her heart, but Yairhoff Haydenn was not around for her to seek revenge on, so the taint went one step further.

He was right, y'know.
You asked for it.
You really are a whore, you little slut.
You deserve to die.
You have no one to blame but yourself.

She felt her hands move. She couldn't control them. They grabbed the gun holstered on her side. Stop. Don't do this. Slowly, she brought the gun to her head, pressing the barrel against the temple of her head, her finger over the trigger. She didn't know what was happening. Rage, revenge, blood -- it filled her body and it filled her mind. She couldn't do this. This wasn't right. She felt herself breathe out, her finger preparing to squeeze, ready to firefirefirefirefirefirefirefire--

"FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!"

The ship's loudspeakers made her stop. There was a fire somewhere on board. Why wasn't the crew doing something? She was on the bridge. She looked around, and saw that everyone else was seemingly in a daze. Some were fighting one another. Some were, like she had been, on the ground. A few, like her, had snapped out of it. There was mad chaos on the bridge, and probably all over the ship. Lights blinking, sirens howling, and loudspeakers going off. She needed to take control -- or at least make sure they survived. After all, she -

Woosh She barely dodged a fire extinguisher being thrown at her.

Moving to one of the computer panels for the ship, she pulled up a model of the ship. Part of the ship, on the computer model, was lined with red -- the part on fire. One or two sections were black -- hull breach. That was dangerous during warp speed -- very dangerous. She quickly tried her best to shield off the contaminated sections and to activate anti-fire systems. Unfortunately, she had no idea what she was doing.

Blame's yellow body trembled, intoxicated by their Corruption. He laughed wickedly, yet gleefully, he had never turned numbers like these before.
AND WHAT. ARE YOU. PREPARED TO DO?

He asked, voice dripping with venom and loathing.
