Lesson 0
There are three kinds of battle combats, above all else, used on this board. We will be dealing mainly with those three kinds of combat. They are:

Magical Combat
Technological Combat
Martial Arts
Please define these.

Magic Combat: Usage of magic or abilities of power to attack or hinder your opponent. Covers many areas such as rituals, elements,  energy,  spells,  and many others. Depending on how big your imagination is and what you can think up. Usually is godmoddish, so knowledge of strategy is needed above all else. Just zapping someone gets you nowhere.

Technological Combat: Uh... the use of technology, weapons, ships, gadgets and artificial powers to attack or defeat your opponent?

Martial Arts: Fighting without the aid of powers, sometimes weapons are used though, such as staffs, swords, and your normal weapons that don't rely on technology. Usage of physical combat and utilizing your whole body as a weapon. However, at times there are such thing as innate abilities in martial arts, such as the concept of ki/chi/psi, through the mind.

Somewhat true..
This class will cover the basics. SO, what ARE the basics? Well, what is battle? The answer is that battle is use of physical, emotional, or spiritual violence to resolve a conflict. That being said, that means that martial arts, magic, and technological combats are all methods of battle. This class will aim to explore the methods of battle, tools of battle, and get into the basics of military strategies and kinds of warfare.

Tools of battle are different for each method. For example, magical tools may include vials, wands, and staffs. Technological tools include guns, ships, and bombs. Martial Art tools include concentration, physical health, and one heck of a martial arts sensei who can lecture you about how he has a dayjob ontop of martial arts and that martial arts is simply a way of life and bla-bla-bla..

So..

1. Describe in your own words the meaning of battle.
2. What are tools and how do they apply to battle?
3. Give me three examples of tools for each method of combat.

Battle: To defeat your opponent in any means possible. Used for either Seld Defense or Total Offense.

Tools: Anything you use to fight with, weapons, the mind, enchanted objects...anything you can think of. Throw a frying pan at them!

Magic: Potion vials, staffs/staves/wands/even swords. Tech: Guns, ships, things with electricity, lasers. Martial Arts: The mind and body.

B, for reasons I've already explained to you.

Let's say you're skilled in martial arts but lack magic or technology. You see something such as a monk raping a woman and your reaction is to stop it. How do you do this?

First question why I want to stop it, it's non of my business after all.

But if my mind insisted on me stopping it, I would look for something discarded around me first. Wood, metal, object, doesn't matter. Just something heavy enough to back me up as a weapon.
Then knock something over to distract them long enough to attack. Hit them with whatever I found and kick them where it hurts.

Sure. That's creative and gets the job done. And it's smart. Distracting the enemy is something that can be fundamental in battle. Of course, in roleplaying, it's not always that easy. It's not very hard to beat someone up in a roleplay. If I were to measure the levels you should be at in each level of the battle classes, I'd say that beating up someone who doesn't fight back wouldn't even register in Basic Classes. That's pre-basic, because anybody can do it.

So, what level is basic? What are we aiming for? If I'd have to measure it, I'd say that we want to get you to a level where you can use each three methods of combat described above at a level where you can beat someone with little to no knowledge of anything above methods and tools of warfare. Someone with little experience in strategy. Meaning, any other Basic Battle student.

I'm really not going to hover over martial arts for very long. But, because it is useful, I will teach a bit more into it. To teach you the ideas and such of martial arts as I know them, I will be using Boshi Liko, the GE-canon martial-arts like form of combat I created to describe the ten year gap between the Opposing Kingdoms and Galactic Empires, and how Kai spent those ten years. I will also be speaking from the teachings of Tai Kwon Do, which I have/had moderate experience in, in real life.

Do you have any experience in martial arts?

Martial Arts is self defense. You shouldn't attack anyone with it, should only use it to defend yourself. Uh..something about sweep kicks, and to angle punches in a curve, rather than just straight. Like ...

Put your hand in a fist in front of you, and swing it around in the punch motion, to where it's vertical, and hits the opponent..............I don't know how to explain it in text.
Oh! And pressure points! *grins* Those can be veeeeery useful.

Let's start with the self-defense part. To be honest, I can't see myself using marital arts as a form of combat offensively, be it in-roleplay or in life. I have used it for self-defense in some cases, to some extent. And it does get the job done. There's a reason they say not to use it offensively: That is a belief on which the entire combat is based on. However, if you're defending yourself or someone else, it's at least okay in the RP, so I won't put too much stock into this.

The main thing you have to remember is to never let your guard down. Always be in a blocking position or fighting stance when sparring. Meaning, you have to keep your arms near your head and have your legs outstretched. Think of your position, with your legs, as relaxed and somewhat apart from each other but at a point where you can use your feet to block any kicks or low attacks, and your arms to block any attacks above. Also, as an added note, never attack below the belt.

Traditionally and formerly, you and your opponent bow to each other before battle. I doubt you're going to do this in a situation such as the one I described above, but if you do ever roleplay a former battle, keep that in mind. You also should bow at the end of a battle, as should your opponent. When bowing, you start off in an attention stance which has your feet/legs locked together and your arms at your sides. You bow to each other in this stance before assuming the fighting stance. As a side note, having your legs tightly locked for several minutes can cause you to faint, but you're only in attention stance for a few seconds at the start and end of the battle, so it's no health risk. It would take awhile, usually, for you to faint of having your legs locked, coming from someone who was in the marching band.

Assessment
1. Describe the two stances I spoke of above with their names and descriptions.
a. Stance Name:
Stance Description (Purpose):
Stance Position (Physical Description):

b. Stance Name:
Stance Description (Purpose):
Stance Position (Physical Description):

2. When should you attack below the belt?

3. When should you be in a defensive state as to block attacks?

4. When should you bow in a battle/duel?

5a. When do you use martial arts (according to ancient teachings)?
5b. Why is this an important part of martial arts?

....That's basic stuff. I didn't remember it, but still.

Attention Stance/Bowing.
Everyone knows it's a sign of respect, you stand straight, arms to the side, and bow swiftly to your opponent.
This shows that you respect them as an opponent and such.
If you attack without bowing first, you're considered a bad person.

Fight Stance
Fists ready, legs spaced, usually th is is to the persons preference. They're all pretty much the same, but each person does it diferently.
Just always make sure to keep your guard up, ready to defend in this stance.

For the questions.
Never, unless you don't plan on fighting fair, then it's okay.
If you're doing it in respect, then never.

Always for blocking.

Since Martial Arts is self defense, respect plays a part in it, when battling someone fairly.
But if you're "evil," or don't plan on fighting fairly, then none of it, except always keeping your guard up and trusting no one, is important.

You seem to have grasped the concepts I've mentioned. You get an A.

Now, I want you to revise your post in regard to the situation with the monk raping a woman and apply what I've told you here. Feel free to beat up the character or control it, for the purpose of this lesson, if needed.
