..Templates are more of a crutch than a helper. The bigger and detailed your template is the more you have to give out on your character. But it's much better to start a character out of nothing and flesh them out through the RP giving only the bare minimum to start with. Templates like this kill any chance of surprise or bringing out things later that a person may want to do.


It'd be good as a template to keep track of your character's progress. But just for a request? ...Kills creativity.

Eh, I kinda agree, I kinda dont. Really it just depends. For example, having a minimum amount of paragraphs for a bio means the person would have to really think about the character they're making, breath life into the character instead of only making it to solve a problem. But something like a minimum number of aspirations or fears? Technically speaking, its quite possible to have none of those and still have a fairly interesting character. For example, two characters I've been thinking of making are essentially biomechanical weapons...They have no aspirations to speak of, and pretty much nothing interests them. How do you fill those parts of the template in those cases?

For the paragraphs of bio, what if one doesn't want to give a bio? What if they want the character secret until a certain point? I guess you could play them as an NPC until you bring them out, but then that doesn't stop others from bitching about you using a character you haven't requested yet.

I've used several NPC characters myself, actually. Johnny, Keira, Sam(three of the named Mercs), the Seven Elders of Elmora(each referred to only by title), and a friend of my Necromantress. I think the friend's name was Jessie. Not sure.
But yeah, you have a good point with that. I guess as long as you make it clear thats what your doing, though, Hik, that should be fine. Hell, I usually cover up parts of my characters history by focusing on singular events, if you've noticed, or by being very vague about events in their history. Lets me flesh out the character before I use 'em, yet allows me to conceal/make up on the fly other parts of their history as need be. But yeah, if there's a REASON it all needs to be secret, I dont see anything wrong with that if its said so.

Well, i had an idea for a new template that would make a person put thought into their character, as well as keeping extremely powerful ones away from people who cant RP them.

Personally, i really dont like the fears, interests, and asparations though...
