Second Challenge
« on: March 13, 2010, 12:55:44 AM »
I no longer wish to wait. The battle between Kyla Sorensis and Zero H., controlled by myself and Hawkeye respectively, will begin. Hawkeye, I will allow you to post first. As a reminder, the battle ground is:

Seeing the world through a child's eyes is truly a unique experience. It helps you to retrieve that sense of awe, magic and wonder that you lost as you lost your innocence. Tell me, when was the last time that you thought of those childhood dreams? You know, the ones that you used to spend all your time wondering and fantasizing about? Have you forgotten them so easily? Have you forgotten what it felt like to see something for the first time, to see the magic in the mundane? Everyone says you should take the time to 'Stop and smell the roses'. But you should also take the time to look for the fairies, embrace the wind and enjoy the rain. Just once today, stop for a moment and look into that little piece of nature you pass everyday. Perhaps you may see something you did not notice before.

In the desert Zero H. stood patiently waiting for his opponent. Naturally of course he wasn't going to fight fair against anyone. His opponent would soon learn the true meaning of a trapped playing field so to speak as Zero had installed all sorts of traps including land mines, and of course his favorite, quick sand pits. He had even gone to the trouble of making a scorpion whose venom could kill in 30 seconds to attack his foe since he wasn't going to fight fair.

While the sun beat down on him Zero H. held out his palm extended and let it fill with blue light. He let loose the light from his palm making an oasis in the desert so that he would have plenty of access to water if he needed it.

The wind starts to pick up, lifting small amounts of sand into the air like a swirling dust cloud, severely limiting visibility. Zero's spell seems to backfire, as the effect comes to be on the opposite side of him, forming a large ice sculpture of a winged warrior princess, spear in hand and at the ready.

The moment he sees the ice princess he decides to react. His hand ignites with fire and he lifts into the air and jumps slamming his fist into the ground causing shockwaves of fire towards the princess of Ice.

The wind slowly begins to accelerate, picking up more and more sand as it's allowed to continue. The sand starts to swirl painfully against the man's skin, feeling like thousands of bee-stings. It collects in the folds of his clothing, his hair and eyelashes. The princess statue laughs as it throws the spear at Zero, smirking at him as the fire begins to melt her feet.

When the sand hits him like bee stings he immediately reacts by casting a sort of sand magnetization spell that sends all the sand towards the ice spear. Once the sand is headed towards the spear, he manipulates the air currents and turns the spear around headed back towards the sender though this time the tip is covered in crystal made from the sand.

"You fail. " said Zero H.

With the same smirk as before, the icy princess simply turns to the side, the spear soaring alongside her body before she grabs it by the shaft. Keeping her eyes on Zero, she silently turns the spear back to face the man, the sand still fused to the ice, creating a jagged edge with many tiny barbs. The wind begins to pick up even more, now blowing at a good fifty mph, plenty fast enough for the sand to create paper-cuts in Zero's skin. Howling loudly, the princess simply continues to smirk, even as the sand slowly chips away at her own skin. For the second time, she throws the frozen, sand-tipped spear.

In pain from the sand still on him and noticing the spear coming at him he simply points his fist outward. When he does this a portal opens to a pocket dimension in which the spear is used. He uses Negion to begin healing his wounds and to form a protective bubble around himself.  He throws two more fireballs at the ice princess simultaneously in order to completely finish her off.

With a massive bout of steam, the princess melted, only to reveal nothing within it. It was obvious his opponent wasn't inside the ice golem. "My my," a strong voice calls out from the sandstorm. "About time you figured it out. Let's see how you deal with something a bit less, obvious." It finishes, raising up a massive hill of sand behind Zero, compressing it together to form it into rock.

When he hears the voice and turns around, he sees the rock immediately. Taking action Zero leaps to one side and decides to deal with the problem of the sand storm that is occupied by his foe. Utilizing Negion, he forms Aura around himself which will allow him to not get pelted by his enemies any longer. Rather than attack though directly he thinks and tentacles of his magic extend into the ground changing it from sand to a form of quartz crystal slowly so his opponent doesn't know what he is about to pull off.

As soon as Zero turns around, a second pile rises up behind him, both of them forming into what looks to be armored bears made of stone. The two bears promptly crouch down, as if preparing to lunge at him. All the while, the wind continues to accelerate, whipping more and more sand around faster and faster.

From her vantage point, Kyla smirks, her Loreian magic-honed senses picking up the tentacles of magic reaching into the sand.

At that however an unpleasant surprise is visited on the Stone Bears. They slip and fall on the crystal which shatters causing them to be impaled. The wind only aids in toppling them and as for the sand, it becomes a huge sphere of energy which consumed or at least appeared to consume Zero H. When it vanished though he was in armor and yet the armor was made from the particles of the sand. He fired magical lightning at her.

Without knowing where she was, Zero's chances of hitting Kyla were astronomically slim, meaning that even without doing anything about the lightening, she would not be hit. The bears merely grow tiny barbs on the bottoms of their feet, gaining them the traction needed for the crystal. This enables them to continue their charge, plenty close enough that his inaction would prove fatal. The wind continues to rage, picking sand up still despite Zero's halfhearted attempt at removing the sand.

Her laugh once again rings about the desert, the flap of wings accompanying her voice. "You're not gonna win that way!" She calls out, a loud thunderclap booming through the air.

At the last possible moment however Zero leapt out of range of the bears and using his foot simultaneously turned the ground to quick sand and used magic to make it noneffective on himself. Those creatures would sink. Now for his coup de grace. Removing a wooden pole, he enchanted it to draw all the sand blowing in the air towards it so that it could be used. What was beginning to form was a long jagged spear.

When the long jagged 'spear' was formed it then flew towards Kyla at 100 mph due to the winds that she was manipulating.

(Don't you get it? You haven't found out where Kyla is yet! Not only that, but we're in an empty desert with only sand around them. Where the hell does he get a wooden pole when there's no wood nearby?)

For the same reason his lightning bolt missed, so does this spear. The bears shift into prehistoric-looking legged stone fish, swimming through the sand towards Zero. Bolts of lightning start arcing in from the outside edges of the desert, all converging in a large web above Zero, accompanied by countless booming thunderclaps that rattle the sand beneath his feet. "My my, you were somewhat swift the first time. Have I stumped you already?" Comes her magically amplified voice, sounding out louder than even the thunder.

"Eternity. " commanded Zero H.  His fist glowing a brilliant cobalt he slammed it into the ground and the glow expanded absorbing the lightning and the creatures along with the thunder claps into it.  Now was the tricky part the finding his opponent. He immediately cast a seeker spell which would lock onto any magical signatures besides his own. After launching it he fired a blast of flame in all directions at once.

(*headdesk* A thunderclap is the noise that a lightning bolt makes as it travels through the air.)

As the windstorm was her doing, Kyla's magical signature is all around him, making the seeker spell rather pointless. The flame blast is diluted by the sandstorm, causing it to not reach as far or high as it otherwise would have. However, once it reaches a certain diameter, it meets resistance. A powerful barrier holds one section of it away. With another laugh, a second and third set of prehistoric fish form from the sands, circling Zero almost playfully. "How interesting. You believe that by absorbing my recipe it is no longer under my control. How intriguing." She calls out, the original two fish bursting out of the sand to leap over Zero harmlessly, while the lightning web reappears to cover the current battlefield.

"Try again."

However the fish could not escape from where Zero had sent them causing them to be unable to exist and thus being destroyed permanently by his spell.  "Very well. I think I know where to hit now..." he said with a smirk and aiming for the section that was protected by a barrier, he shot a thin bolt of magical energy not enough to do any harm but enough to mark the area with his magical signature so that he could ignite said area with a special attack of his.

The area flashed as his tracer hit the barrier, which promptly curvs around the bolt to surround it in a sphere. The sphere quickly begins to shrink, forcing the energy to take up a smaller and smaller amount of space. The compressed energy forces the molecules inside the sphere to vibrate faster and faster, generating a large amount of heat through friction.

"My my, what shall I do with this..." The sand-fish promptly dive deep into the sand, preparing for a strike.

To react to her attack he immediately moved his foot to the right 5 inches. "Aris, Atoros, Bladius Crystalius!"  A crystalization spell activated dealing with the problem of the sand fish. Now it was his turn to go on the offensive. Holding out both palms. "Let my anger flood the area with fire!" Red Flame hotter than anything the Lorian had ever experienced shot upwards towards her directly since he had finally realized where she currently was. The ground was rapidly changing to smooth crystal.
