Invasion of Maltruse.
« on: August 07, 2012, 05:49:13 PM »
A small anti-magic bubble, surrounded by a displacement field that could keep the toxins of the atmosphere out. In this bubble, two Anrufe members appeared, recognizable by their black cloaks. One had brown hair, the other green hair. They were both young men, probably in their twenties. And they both were intent on destroying this place.

Green Zero, being an illusionist, was capable of changing the perception of the enemy, and trapping them within their own minds. He'd already done that, casting an illusion on all Lorcar in the vicinity to make their psychic abilities fold back in on themselves. That is, is they tried to use their scream, they would fail to scream at the two, and instead scream at themselves. It was all a matter of perception; If they perceived themselves as the intruders, the two Anrufe members were safe.

As they walked through the city, they began their destruction, with Reli unleashing bursts of red magic that almost seemed like an electrical current. The moment it hit a structure, that structure would explode. Meanwhile, Green Zero kept up his illusion, while also creating illusions regarding which structures were being destroyed -- making the destroyed ones seem to still be in tact, and making ones in tact seem destroyed, as to further confuse the enemy.

...And could it be that these two weren't even the actual Anrufe members? That it was part of yet another illusion, and that the Anrufe members were somewhere else on the planet, remotely casting the destruction? Or maybe they weren't even on the planet at all.

The illusions of destruction being not destruction were, patently, quite obvious, considering all upon Maltruse was alive and part of the Hive Mind. At first, the illusions worked, and the Psychic Scream did rebound; however, the Lorcar were much more attuned to their own powers and it hardly affected them. Once they noticed that their normal Psychic Power was being rebounded, they unraveled the illusions, beginning with Psionic methods of illusion then when that didn't work, by destroying the Magic from its framework up, making the Locusts unaffected by the illusions because the spells creating them simply were no longer there.

Of course, all this would be if not for the fact that the Anrufe members were inside of, and I quote, a 'anti-Magic bubble' which, by definition, would prevent their magic from working in the first place. Or even if it was simply Anti-Magic surrounding them but not actually touching them their spells still wouldn't go through it, of course. Their illusions and their destructive antics would be kept within their own bubble of Anti-Magic(which...Affects Psionics not, since the Lorcar are Psychic, not Magic in the slightest).

Even with the displacement field blocking all of the actual toxins from the air, the Anrufe would begin to feel...Sick. Unwell. With every breath they took, they were getting worse and worse. Soon enough, cysts were forming on their insides and pox spread across their bodies, and blood began to seep from pores along their skin. Tumors were forming as the virus took hold, and attacked their DNA. For you see...The Lorcar did not have only poisons in their atmosphere. They had their own bio-engineered virus, the Killer Cell Caste, everywhere, a virus created from the reverse-engineered DNA of the most dangerous pathogens even encountered by the Locusts in their history. And even as their own immune systems would try to counter it, they also had the Lorcar's Immune System, the Antivirus Caste of microbial cells, floating in them as well, which attacked and devoured white blood cell and non-Lorcar pathogen alike. If nothing was done, their bodies would be destroyed on a cellular level, reduced to diseased sacks of flesh and bone, no longer even recognizable.

Of course, they hadn't actually been on the planet. They'd been experimenting with this little game, trying to understand the Lorcar mind better to perfect the scope of their skills on this new enemy. The time would come when the Anrufe would need to be able to completely destroy the Lorcar. When that time came, every advantage would need to be at the disposal of the Anrufe.

Halting their attacking on the planet itself, the duo, who were floating in space nearby, using more illusions to stay hidden, now focused entirely on the illusion aspect of this battle. The Lorcar had found a way to unravel the illusions, but Green Zero was taking this one step further now. He created another layer of illusions on many of the Lorcar on the ground, this time attacking their ability to reason on rather they were, in fact, in an illusion, or not. The Lorcar now would be frozen on the planet, unresponsive, though in their minds they'd appear to be living their lives as normal, still responsive. That is, they'd be in a sort of dream state where they thought they were still responsive and not under the influence of illusion.

These new illusions temporarily de-synched the Lorcar from the Hive Mind, due to their being forced from normal reality into a mindscape. The psychic discrepancies from when the Locusts tried to rely on one another's brainpower added up over the span of a single second before they found out something was wrong-In this mindscape, they couldn't hear one another's thoughts. They couldn't use one another's brains to process data.
What was happening was...Incorrect.
Because they detected the illusion, it fractured. Perhaps not broke entirely, but they were aware of it, and they fought it. The hold it had over their minds was...Lessened. Adding in that the entire rest of the Swarm immediately noticed that several Lorcar simply blinked out of their Hive Link, yet weren't dead, they found out what was going on pretty fast too. A truly massive Psionic Shockwave reverberated throughout the entire system caused by the Defense Swarm(basically all of the Capital and up class ships) pooling psychic power together and unleashing it, pure psychic force being harnessed and bounced between every psionically-adept Lorcar in the entire system. The massive psychic shockwave was approximately seventeen times as strong as the Lorcar's normal Psychic Scream, and was also made to dispell magical effects not by de-converting its existence(as with AM devices) but by warping the magic itself to the point where its purpose was completely incoherent; after the warping, it'd be like typing in gibberish instead of a programming language for as much as the magic would do. However, the thing about it...It didn't just go through the system once. Because it was being bounced between every psionic Caste in the system, it would hit every part of the system thousands, hundreds of thousands of times as new shockwaves were made whenever it hit a new Lorcar. It was like a ripple that went throughout the system, and whenever it hit a Lorcar, a new ripple would issue forth from that Locust in addition to the original ripple, and every other ripple made. Any non-Lorcar in the system would have their mind invaded, bent, shredded, twisted in new and exciting ways, and ripped apart by the psychic force; if they weren't left a gibbering mess, they'd certainly have major psychological trauma from the incident, and many new mental issues to impede them further. And considering that the illusions keeping them hidden were reduced from their orderly state to a mess of raw magical energy, there was nothing stopping the Locusts from finding them in their nigh-upon incapacitated state.

The moment the psychic screams began, realizing their magic to be useless, Green Zero, and then Reli (who soon caught on), used their KiaB class armor to teleport away technologically. They would be devastated, but not to the point that they could not recover. But by no means were the Anrufe done fighting.

They would be back. With a vengeance.
