Learn about Blood Dragons~ [DONE]
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:28:00 PM »
Another topic of an intense amount of information on a race no one is going to play as. Let's go at it!

As usual, I'll quote the original race post as a quick reference and a template for anyone reading off of this topic.

I realize there are actually dragons in the beginning Lore of SP, and I know there are quite a few things to do with dragons in SP itself (A search yielding 8 pages with the word Dragon tells me this, the oldest post being waaay back in October 2009, just a few months away from when SP was actually created. Needless to say, Dragons have been around in SP, but there hasn't actually been an actual race for them, or anything related to them to even get information from about these creatures.

When I first thought of bringing an actual Dragon race to SP, I was honestly going with actual dragons that took on a sort of humanoid form. However, upon the realization that Dragons were already in the plot of SP and apparently had a lot of involvement with the plotline, I decided to just make a completely different kind of Dragon that is separate from the plotline.

And like the Solstici, this is a public race. Everyone may make as many as they like, even Hawk (As soon as he gets off request probation, because by the time he's taken off it, he 'should' have learned to make good characters and solid, flexible stuff without making them die every ten seconds and degrading whatever he RPs with. Watch as I regret this decision.). But until he is taken off of his probation, he and all of his characters will have absolutely nothing to do with Blood Dragons.

So, Blood Dragons! What are they?

Blood dragons are humanoid life forms that take on a variety of appearances. Some range from being human-like to two legged furry creatures (Heh, furries.) to actually looking like a dragon on two feet, and sometimes  may even take on alien-like properties, like the Novierians. Why? Actually, Blood Dragons can spawn from any race. In fact, some characters may already be Blood Dragons and not even know it! But how is this possible? Blood dragons isn't as much of a race than it is a blood condition, but once these people realize they have this 'condition,' they are universally known as Blood Dragons, no matter what their race was before.

To be qualified to be a possible blood dragon, you require only two things:
1. Be a living being.
2. Have some sort of blood coursing through some part of your body. The amount is irrelevant, but it's better to have more blood than less.

With that being said, that automatically rules out technology or robot-based Races. This also rules out Solstici, as though even if they are living beings, they do not have flesh. They are the products of aura, ether, and the spirit energy of the universe around them. Their wolf form is merely just the first representation given to them.

Once you have a Blood Dragon/your character realizes they're a Blood Dragon, what kind of cool stuff can they do? Blood dragons control their blood to do a variety of things, and can do all sorts of neat stuff with them, as well as generate new blood out of thin air with a combination of Magic and Aura (Blood dragons have no idea they're using aura to make blood, so it's unconsciously used like aura is used in all other magical abilities.). Also, they are able to make use of Blood Magic (I'm surprised there's no iteration of Blood Magic anywhere on SP aside from a few posts from Hawk and that Love Craft Guy.). But what is blood magic?

Blood magic is like regular magic, only difference being is that blood is enchanted with magic, and because of this, magical abilities can be cast from this blood. These abilities greatly differ from actual magic abilities, as these magic attack focus on raw fire power, destruction, and more often than not concerns fire, magma, lava, or burning/extremely hot substances. This also ties into the Embodiment of Heat if I ever decide to make it, but that is an entirely different story. The thing to keep in mind is though is that these hot substances are not actual flames or lava, but are products of a character's spirit. However, these flames are not spirit energy. They cannot be extinguished by anything but the person that produced the flames in the first place. A very good, if not only, comparison to these flames is to compare it to a few statements: "The Flame of life," "He has a enkindled Soul," "I can feel your burning passion!"
In that sense, these are flames that are produced from a character's will alone, and is powered solely through a character's spirit.
Because of this, blood from a blood dragon contains their actual spirit as well as their being. Getting rid of this blood somehow does absolutely nothing to their spirit or spirit energy whatsoever. If you wish to damage a character's Spirit/Spirit energy, you must do so through the same method you would use against a character that isn't a blood dragon.
Flames and magma aren't the only things a Blood Dragon can produce from their spirit. They can produce the other elements as well, but this is quite difficult and it's just much easier to use flames.

Why are Blood Dragons called Blood Dragons? There are a total of three reasons. First, the blood itself and what forms it typically takes. When a Blood Dragon uses their blood, the blood they create or the blood from their own bodies tend to shapeshift into certain shapes outside of their body, more often than not making wings, tails, claws and the like. This blood can also harden to become very, very hard (Hard as Dragon Scales! ... I'll stop with the puns in 3... 2... 1...). As a result, Blood Dragons can quite literally look like Dragons, creating scales all around their body and even increasing their size and everything, or can just make separate parts of their body about them become Dragon-like. Want a tail but not the claws or body? There you go. Feel like having some nifty spikes on your back? Sure. This blood can take other forms as well outside of being a dragon, but most blood dragons find comfort in the shapes they produce with their blood, and more often than not keep with these forms. It's not that they can't, but they most of the time won't.
The Second reason why they're called Blood Dragons is the fact that most of them use flames created from their blood magic, and some of them even start to breath fire or pufts of flames every now and then when they're angry. These flames can even shoot out of these scales themselves and smoke can certainly emanate from Blood Dragons as well.
The Third, Final Reason is because of their alternate forms these Blood Dragons Create.

Next, the alternate forms these Blood Dragons have hidden inside of them. They have two by default, but they can create a lot of others branching off from these two forms. These two 'Root' forms are called ZEAL and Ascension forms.
The ZEAL form is when the Blood Dragon embraces their very existence, and takes their physical boundaries to the very limit. More often than not, this ZEAL form turns the Blood Dragon into a Dragon-Like humanoid form, somewhat resembling their current self in shape and size, yet having Dragon-like features as well. These dragon like features are not created through the blood itself, but are a product of the Blood Dragon's Spirit as well as his physical boundaries. In this form, the Blood Dragon can branch off into a multitude of other forms, these forms ranging from all sorts of different appearances and shapes and are crafted from the Blood Dragon's personality and current state of mind. When in ZEAL, Blood Dragons find themselves extremely powerful, and can produce as much blood as they possibly can or want to. The flames they produce are often pure white because of the exponential heat they produce, and can melt or burn anything. Also in this form, their blood may take on a different appearance, such as looking like ice or visible wind, and sometimes even earth. These blood forms are dependent on their aura and it's forms. Whatever aura the Blood Dragon has more of, the blood takes on the properties of the respective aura.

The Ascension form is different. Rather than embracing their physical Boundaries, the Blood Dragon abandons their limits of their mortal coil and become a completely different form. This form is still reminiscent of a dragon, but instead of changing their actual physical appearance, this ascension form appears as a translucent hologram or a see-through veil of sorts that surrounds the Blood Dragon in question. The Dragon that surrounds them is, again, dependent on their personality and state of mind, but also the form of their spirit, soul, and it takes their tie to existence into account too. The key difference in this form compared to the ZEAL form is that all of their blood/magic/energy/anything is a product of the user's spirit alone. As well as the ZEAL form, this is also extremely powerful, and all of the attacks, magic, and flames in this form are imbued with Spirit energy. There is a difference in attacks as well between these two forms as well. While ZEAL tends to focus on Blood and the flames they produce, Ascension focuses on Magic and Spirit Energy and it's relationship with the Blood Dragon's blood. In fact, Spirit energy practically pours out of an Ascension Form Blood Dragon at alarming rates, almost like a Waterfall. Like the ZEAL form, their blood also takes on the form that is respective to their aura. However, this form takes the aura that is least present and applies it to the blood.

So, what are their relationships with the rest of the Shattered Planes? They are utterly unknown, completely. There are a few Blood Dragons popping up here and there, and quite a few characters already are probably Blood Dragons but have no way of realizing it and using their Blood Dragon abilities unless another Blood Dragon actively unlocked the character's abilities or while the character in question actively searched their own conscious, spirit, and their whole state of being.

A final note concerning current characters realizing that they're Blood Dragons: You MUST ask permission from me if you wish to make one of your current characters a Blood Dragon, because there are certain limits I will impose on every specific character that should match your character. Otherwise, you are free to make a Full dedicated Blood Dragon Character with all of the stuff listed above.

With that, what else is there to possibly talk about Blood Dragons? To be quite honest, when I first made that topic, I thought I nailed just about every bulletpoint, but now that I've had some unintended time away from SP, I can most definitely say there are some more stuff to be added!

So, what will we be going over in this ridiculously long Dossier topic? In no particular order, we will be going over the following...

0. The making of Blood Dragons.
1. Origin of the Blood Dragons
2. More in-depth look at what it is to be classified as a Blood Dragon, and how much a character changes if they so happen to be classified as one.
3. Interesting Stories of certain Blood Dragons
4. Advanced look into magic involving Blood.

There's not much to say on some of these topics, so this topic might not be longer than the others (Seriously, when I made the race request topic, I made sure to go over everything so I wouldn't have to make one of these! Most of the information can already be found in the request quote.).

First point! This might be the only one in order in terms of what order I have them listed as in the original post (This one, point number 0, was the first one.).

When I thought up of Blood Dragons, it actually started with a certain... 'likeness' towards anything related to dragons that, surprisingly, I still hold. But the strange thing is, this likeness manifested out of nowhere, like I suddenly was super interested in anything related to the massive, majestic, amazing creatures. And I wanted to incorporate that feeling of peerless power and unstoppable might into an RP that, more or less, didn't deviate much from humanoid characters and technology.
However, the one saving grace that worked in my favor was SP's common theme of over-the-top magic that exceeded all conventional imagination, so if I were to make a 'dragon' race that would fit with SP, it had to be Magic Based, the race itself would have to be humanoid size, and, since it was going to be an open race, would have to fit everyone's tastes if they were to use it. It was just about the only way to fit it in on SP.

(Congratulations to K23 and Swift for somehow actually making a Dragon race that actually involved live Dragons by the way.)

For that to happen, I decided to look at what would be a dragon. A Dragon, as I saw it, possessed awesome power, but had a tinge of loneliness around them as they are so few and far between, and liked to watch from the sidelines rather than meddling in affairs that didn't involve them (Unless it had something they really wanted!). Breathing fire, spreading large wings to beat at the surrounding atmosphere as they pierced the sky and soared through it was also certainly inspiration.
But, I also wanted to incorporate other things, like when you got a Dragon riled up, it would look towards you with a piercing, menacing glare and unleash all out hell on you. This feeling of power and a cunning mind didn't really fit anything else. But how would one translate that sort of awesomeness... into a humanoid form?
I got the idea for this race to use their blood for their Blood Dragon related abilities by simply looking at another character that most definitely fit that description. Black, from the Escape RP (K23, Orph, and anyone else that was at Escape definitely knows what I'm talking about.). He was crazy, mad with power, but saddened by loss, loneliness, and despair, and would take out his troubles on millions of other people with his black blood, ultimately leading to the Black Massacre Story Arc (It was Escape's most finest Arc, in my opinion. ... The only one that actually finished.).

All this power, this emotion, and their being, all in the blood, became the main point of Blood Dragons. Soon enough, I was imagining characters morphing wings of their blood out of nowhere, breathing white-hot firey-like lava onto unfortunate enemies, and even the way most of them interacted with one another, towards other races, everything. Soon enough, Zerker was born.

But the most biggest pull for me to make was the two forms each and every Blood Dragon had: ZEAL and Ascension forms. ZEAL, in my opinion, represented their utmost, indomitable abilities to power through everything, to take down the largest of foes with their sheer force alone, and Ascension, would be the opposite of that. Ascension, being the driving force that connected everyone put into physical form to surpass the very limits of the mortal coil with phenomena so great, I can't put into words.

And thus, Blood Dragons were born.

Next time, We'll look into... well, something! I dunno which one I want to do yet, but we'll see. I promise it'll be interesting!

Heya! In this post, we'll be going to point 2, what it means to be classified as a Blood Dragon. A lot of what is in this post is more of stuff to clear up misunderstandings than actual information, but it's something I feel like I didn't go over enough when it's actually so simple.
Before we start, though, keep these terms in mind.
Classified Blood Dragon/Character: An existing character that became a Blood Dragon through Request.
Pure Blood Dragon/Character: A character that was initially created to be a Blood Dragon from the start. This includes characters that were made without Blood Dragon Abilities, but had the sole intent of gaining them IC.

To begin with, let's look at the requirements to actually become a Blood Dragon. According to the Race Request Quote, to be classified as a Blood Dragon, one must...
1. Have some sort of blood within their bodies that interact with their soul and spirit. ( You can't have an android that uses blood for whatever reason being a Blood Dragon, but you can have a Cyborg [Half living, half machine] be a Blood Dragon. )
2. Be a living being. ( Technically, the first requirement would make it to where there would be no need for this one. )

Once these two qualifications are met, a character is capable of becoming a Blood Dragon. Or rather, 'becoming' is the incorrect word. The better word to use here is 'inheriting.'
Why? When a character is classified as a Blood Dragon, they are indeed considered that race from then on, but they don't stop being their previous race (A Novierian becoming a Blood Dragon is still a Novierian, but he's referred to as a Blood Dragon.). And considering how nonexistent Blood Dragons are in the massive universe of SP, it will be a long while before anyone really calls these characters 'Blood Dragons.' The character can call themselves whatever they want as well as the owner if they wish not to lose their race title. A good way to think of it, in this case, would be that Blood Dragons are a sub-race that can coexist along with another race within the same character.

Another thing I might add: In the Race Request quote, I probably made it sound a lot like the Blood Dragon abilities were the only abilities they had. This is not true; Blood Dragons may hold a myriad of abilities including the abilities they had before they were classified as a Blood Dragon. And becoming a Blood Dragon doesn't mean you have to stop developing these abilities or using them altogether, it just means you have a whole other set of abilities at your disposal.

However, note that while I allow the creation of Blood Dragon characters, people are required to get my permission if they wish to have their current characters classified as a Blood Dragon. This decision was not made lightly. Think about it, what if some of the most powerful characters in the RP suddenly declared Blood Dragon Classification? If this was the case, all of these characters not only would have a whole slew of abilities at their hands, but their abilities will grow rampant and without much guidance.

The reason why I require permission is so when I classify characters as Blood Dragons, I must balance out what abilities they get to start out with in relation to the character's own growth and power, and I must set a limit on how much this power can grow within the certain character.
Faotemaru with Epoch Circles plus every Blood Dragon ability sounds super frightening, no? Through this method, The Blood Dragon classification is not only balanced with the character's current abilities, but it also makes for some good character development! Faotemaru could discover this strange power that lies within him, and spend some time on making it grow, and find other characters that have similar properties to help each other grow these abilities.
Oh, what? I said there will be a limit to how much Blood Dragon powers can grow to a classified character? If two classified characters meet, and  train/help each other unlock Blood Dragon abilities, they will no longer have that limit, and can grow to the same level as a Pure Blood Dragon. A Classified Blood Dragon can also meet a Pure Blood Dragon and do the same as well.

However, if meeting other characters isn't your cup of tea and training with them, I can understand that. Just say so when requesting classification and we can work something out.

EDIT: I trust you guys enough not to go crazy with it.

So, let's review.
1. Becoming a Blood Dragon means you need to have blood and be a living being.
2. Being Classified as a Blood Dragon does not mean you stop being your previous race. It's like your two races at the same time.
3. Having an existing character being classified as a Blood Dragon will have their abilities balanced out with their currently existing abilities.
--- If a Classified Blood Dragon meets a Pure Blood Dragon or another Classified, they may surpass this balance and work on their Blood Dragon Abilities without my balancing. Thank god I made Zerker for you guys, eh?

4. One can say this allows for not only some interesting character development (You're using your own freaking blood and being able to breath fire and do dragon-like stuff!), but communication between characters as well if multiple people decide to become classified.

That's it for Classification. I'll probably do Origins or interesting Stories next time.

Heya! This time, we'll be doing Origins.

The First Blood Dragon is hard to point out in the history of the whole plane of existence, considering that they never really were all that known to begin with, and the fact that there are a lot of living beings that were already Blood Dragons, but hadn't realized it yet.
But, the first Blood Dragons that awakened and realized their abilities, and made a name for themselves, were an Outlaw Group known as "Blazing Passion." They did what normally would be considered of an outlaw group; steal from the rich, piss off authorities all in good fun, and just did whatever the hell they wanted.

But, the most eye opening thing that they all experienced, they experienced all at once. Suddenly, in the middle of a raid, they all noticed something within them change, all simultaneously. A feeling unlike anything they hadn't felt before, a surging awakening went through the small outlaw group that changed them forever. Of course, they were too busy raiding a ship, so they decided to deal with whatever that feeling was after they robbed the bad, bad rich men of their many valuable goods.

It wasn't until later they all demanded to meet up with one another on the bridge of their ship. When normally the air of celebration would fill this place as they all would roll around in their stolen riches and having a jolly good time, the air of uncertainty and confusion was present instead. The riches they gained seemed like nothing in comparison to the unknown they all felt like they faced. They all confirmed with one another, that they all felt like a change happened in them all, all at the same time.
They figured nothing out about this new feeling they had until their next job, whom they were commissioned for. Or, well, almost commissioned for. The one requesting their commission turned out to be a very adept Magic user, and the moment the outlaw group stood in front of him, he witnessed something rather odd about the group as well.

He said unto them "You are all magical beings, but you're much too different compared to what other magical beings I have faced. What are you guys?"
Naturally, none of the group members were magical beings, at least not to their knowledge. And it was this very meeting that cemented the growth of the group members into being Blood Dragons forever.
When they replied they hadn't a clue of what he was talking about, the mage offered to travel with them to help them develop their abilities, paying for his own passage. The job he needed done fell among his priorities; He was determined to witness this new race awaken.

It started as individual sessions with each and every member, the mage would ask them simple questions like the feelings they felt, or if anything unusual occurred in their bodies, or even if they were starting to see strange phenomena. They all unanimously had answers, most of them similar or being the exact same as the other. The individual meetings turned to group sessions where the mage would continue using his own magical power to unlock whatever it was within these crew members. It took five to seven sessions before the very first sign of progress shown.

One of the crew members, the member that was often on the receiving end of jokes, but also the one that made the others laugh, grew wings. But not just any wings, wings made from his own, green blood. The green liquid dripped from it onto the floor, as he couldn't keep it's form up (He wasn't even aware he was doing it.). The Mage instantly singled him out and walked over to him, and looked through his entire body with his magic.
There was a definite change.

Soon enough, the other crew members began to grow certain limbs or other strange symptoms after this event, like breathing small flares of fire or, suddenly, some of them feeling they were much, much bigger than the ship they were on when in reality they were just the same size. And one day, these symptoms reached critical mass. They all not only experienced the same symptoms, but they began to be able to control them too. They were growing wings of blood out of their will alone, or purposely breathing fire, and sometimes lava if they could manage it. They were even using their own blood to carry things for them, or do simple things like flipping switches or operating the ship from the kitchen when parts of their blood was at the controls, doing things.

The Mage, decided to call them all Blood Dragons. He had awakened their powers, and urged them all to do the same to any other people they found with similar symptoms to theirs. And after that, he left the group.
The most biggest change to the entire outlaw group though, was that after they had all awakened, they no longer felt the need to do their outlaw activities. Nowadays, it is said they cruise the plane of existence, finding people who have yet to awaken to the abilities they hold deep in their spirit and blood.

Next time.. I dunno, I'll do something.

Turns out, I don't have all that much to say about Blood Dragons. I guess I really meant it when I tried to tack on as much information as possible in the request. And seeing as I'm not the Blood Magic expert here (Or maybe no one is, so maybe by playing a race that has so much to do with blood, I may BECOME the expert.), I can't really go into advanced Blood Magic. I can't seem to think of any other stories involving Blood Dragons aside from the origins story so...

Yeah, Blood Dragon Dossier topic is finished. Next time, I'll see about doing stuff on Novierians. They never really were expanded upon, and they lasted a very, very short time to be honest. Currently, to my knowledge, only one Novierian character exists (Synthe), and very few are actually referenced at all. I figure maybe they should get a topic to properly send off their race as well, but I dunno.

I love it, Zai, and am considering making a character of this race. Tell me, if a Paxan were to be a Blood Dragon, what would happen?

Paxans have magic energy IN their blood, and it interacts with others hormones in the bloodstream. That's how they use magic.

Well, Blood Dragon abilities involving their fire comes from their spirit and soul/magic organ/whatever, which in turn connects to their blood. But since they already HAVE their magic energy in their blood, I'd say they could manipulate Blood magic/Blood Dragon Abilities a tad more easier to start with than other Blood Dragons, like a bit more control over elements other than fire and whatnot. They might be a bit more susceptible to AM, but I suppose all magic users are.

Yeah, I'm updating Blood Dragons again, because what I have in store for Zerker when I take charge of him again may very well require it.

This time, Blood Dragon Evolution. It's a concept I played around with whenever I tried to think of where to take Zerker when I finally begin RPing with him again. And to do that, I decided to look at my other character, Faotemaru's story, and what made him interesting enough that I stuck with him for what felt like years.

The whole purpose of Faote's story was quite literally self growth. From being an Alchemist who wanted to kill Zere because he thought he killed his family to being a 'father' of several homunculi and the Embodiment of Heat was a massive growth in character, and it took a long time for it to manifest. But one thing in particular that stuck was RPing with Faote early on when I first made him. He didn't sit around in a Space Station, hiding away from a character that may or may not be hunting for him, and waste his life away behind a desk, no, in the original OK, Faote was doing things to improve his growth, often making leaps and bounds in his discoveries.
He also took over some places. Yeah, I did territory acquisition for a while. From a lowly human, slowly building his way to Alchemist to a magical being, and then from there to a powerful person which then finally rebirthed into becoming an Embodiment. That was some character growth and development that I wish I could apply to all my characters. And most of you know when I make stuff, I make the base to do just that, but apparently there has been some dis-communication with myself since apparently none of my newer characters are growing or making any sort of impact anywhere.

So, to get set for my start back into SP, I'll be making this character development for Blood Dragon characters a tad easier, particularly Zerker, but again anyone with a Blood Dragon classified character (IE. None of you.) has these same parameters added.

Blood Dragon Evolution is the process of a Blood Dragon character adapting to his/her environment at high speeds, and making permanent changes to their body to facilitate these new mechanisms to protect them. Much like how primates supposedly evolved to have opposable thumbs so they could easily grab objects, or how many wolves, bears, and other such mammals have fur coats to adapt to cold environments, Blood Dragons evolve in the same way.
Just speed that process up a lot. That, and you don't have to wait until the next generation to see said changes.

Say a Blood Dragon got into a fight with a Magic user. The magic user is really adept in Thunder magic, so he spams his thunder magic all over the place and hits the Blood Dragon with it. Blood Dragon Evolution does not take place within the same time frame of battle (There is a way, but it's risky.). However, because the blood of a Blood Dragon is kinda special, and they do all sorts of crazy stuff with it, the blood remembers what kinds of attacks the organism it was inhabiting was hit with.
Later on, most likely after the battle, the Blood Dragon's blood will begin to apply changes to the body to make it more resistant to thunder-type attacks through Blood Magic. This process is usually automatic, and takes about a few days, give or take.
The process of allowing these changes to take place in the middle of battle, however, is different. For the Blood Dragon's body to make changes immediately and apply whatever resistances it has, the Blood Dragon must expel all of their blood in their body, and allow new blood to produce. Since Blood Dragons can produce actual blood at high speeds, such a thing is very possible, but it's also dangerous. Despite that the character is a Blood Dragon, if their body depends on their blood to deliver nutrients and such to organs, such a quick evacuation of blood may prove detrimental to the character's health, and may cause them to become unconscious at the loss of so much blood so suddenly. If a Blood Dragon were to do this, they must be quick with expelling their blood and replacing it. If they succeed, such changes due to Blood Dragon Evolution takes place in literally seconds.

The more times a Blood Dragon 'evolves,' the more they start to look like, well, a dragon. Characters can keep these appearances from showing up if they're magically adept, but it might not be so great for the body's evolution. Even if they do this, though, the changes their body was supposed to make will show up in the ZEAL and Ascension forms. But, if the character doesn't halt these appearances and lets them grow, they'll eventually look like an actual Dragon. You know, those massive scaly things that breath fire.

That's the only thing I wanted to tack onto Blood Dragons. Again, Blood Dragons are a free race, almost any character can become one (Yes, even hawk's. >> ), aaaand.. yeah. Unlike before though, if you want to make one of your existing characters a Blood Dragon, you no longer need my permission and whatnot; just go ahead and do it IC. They'll grow into their abilities at a pace that (I hope) you deem appropriate.

Thank you. It's actually refreshing knowing that someone actually reads these Dossier topics purely because they're interested instead of just for reference like I do.
