Empire Description: A council of 7 rulers over a massive population numbering into the billions. They know all of the languages thanks to their ability to absorb but don't mingle much with others. They are nomadic.

Osmosia – A world that has very hostile and dangerous predators on it along with lots of mineral deposits and sources of things that they can absorb. The atmosphere is like earth except for the beasts which are extremely hostile to anyone on the planet thus the ability to absorb. Over time they have learned how to control their abilities without the incentive of fear to enable them to perform their techniques.   

Abilities
1.Rapid Healing – Due to the nature of their ability to absorb their body regenerates quickly once they have absorbed anything. This ability only kicks in once they absorb. In addition they can't heal when they have not absorbed for 24 hours or more.

2. Absorption –  This ability allows for them to absorb most types of energy easily along with most materials. When they absorb the energy the result is internal allowing them to use that energy to fire off blasts at their opponents. However once they absorb metal or other materials their skin gets a coating of that material forming a kind of protective armor over their skin. 

3. Channel  They can channel energy from the absorption into other beings to heal them if the need should arise. They can also channel material to form splints.

Limitations
They can't absorb salt or any kinds of liquids however which puts them at a disadvantage. In addition to that limitation the weakness of the material also affects them causing them to lose what they have absorbed. Salt is a fatal substance for them. However this is only when it is taken in through the mouth.

So, their primary race are themselves, and what do they absorb? And how does their hostility have anything to do with their ability to absorb?

Presumably, the hostility would have been the reason for these beings adapting such a power. As in, they'd gain the properties of rock to avoid a creature biting into them, ect. It would be a way to defend themselves from such inhospitable creatures.

They can absorb every metal and all sorts of woods. They can even absorb diamond. They can't absorb magic. The creatures were what triggered fear in them triggering the survival instinct which activated this power of theirs.  Yes, their primary race is themselves.

How long does the absorption process take? I don't really like the absorption part. You can get pretty powerful if they hang around in a gold or silver mine or a forest. Heck, a planet would most likely be mostly made of metals.

It depends on two factors really.

1. How long they are exposed to the material
2. The amount they absorb

The longer they spend absorbing and the more they absorb the longer they can remain in that special state. The less time spent, the weaker the state is. Got it?

Still don't like it. It can absorb all metals, diamonds, and most of the woods. Basically, you would be able to absorb a planet, and enemy ships. You might be able to absorb carbon-based organisms, too, as diamonds and woods are made of carbon.

It is true that they can absorb materials but they can't absorb sentient beings or worlds as worlds would take too long.

How much can they absorb per absorption?

They can absorb enough to last them through one major attack. It only lasts an hour though per absorption. Therefore they most continually absorb if they wish to use that ability.
