The Necroflab are a species of universally decentralized nervous system beings that act as parasites. Their basic form is a little crab-like thing that crawls on the floor or walls and ceiling, they grab on and insert the virus into the victim. When the victim submits to the virus, after about 5 minutes for a normal human, 15 minutes for a sage the newly created Necroflab is connected neurally to the Gravemind, the large being that is hyper-intelligent and controls all Necroflab. They eat away at planets, and are somewhat similar to a fungi in physiology, the planets that they infect turn into bulbous pus filled sacks covering large portions of the planet.

A mix between the Necromorphs, the Flood and the Head Crabs.

Not really...
First, its a decentralized nervous system, not universally. Basically, they 'think' with every part of their body. They infect the hosts, which are then mutated, and also have a decentralized nervous system. And then there's more if others have questions that I, with my biological expertise, can provide awesome answers for.

If you dont know, anyone else, a decentralized nervous system means they 'think' with every part of their body. No need of a brain, technically. Decapitation wont kill it, and dismembering it to make it inable to attack is the best method to dispatch something with this kind of system.

One problem, and a question.

We're trying to keep outright rips out, so please change the name of the main leader organism from Gravemind to something else.

And is there any way for humans/sages to defend themselves against the virus once injected/produce a vaccine?

Well, see its not a rip. It is based off 3 different things and it combines them. And it adds suff of its own. If you have an idea of what the laeder being could be called, the we'll be glad to take that but this was the coolest we ccould think of.

As for the vaccine thing.... well, the sage/human thing was just an example. The Necroflab can infect most all lifeforms, but only those with enough body mass, around man sized, can be used for normal forms, otherwise they just dies or become carriers.

The vaccine, well, it is a parasite so if you have anything that kills it in your blood stream at the time of infection, the infection wouldn't occur. That and the parasite does not feed on only living oragnisms. It controls the dead body with a sort of psychic field sent by the Gravemind/leader being and tranferred into the brains of the infection forms.

It uses the host. It acts to make itself control mre things. It hungers, I guess you could say. Its like a zombie virus really. It exists because it does, and it infects others because the virus is programmed to do that. It is a virus, a parasite, it has no goals other than to consume the universe. In that way, it is similar to the flood. And the Lorcar. The only sentient being is the Gravemind/leader being thing-which-we-still-can't-find-a-name-for.

Well, it would depend on the parasite. Also, having a giant crab thing attach itself to you and start pumping you full of parasites is just a wee bit shocking and would make you want to run for your life, you know? Especially if there were more...Personally, I doubt someone would be thinking about that at the time.
