I'm gonna set the record straight here. I think it's high time I fully explained all about the Paxans magic.
Hik never made it all clear, so I took it and made it my own. here's the basics,
Paxans are born with a special energy flowing through their bloodstream, this energy can only simply be called magic, there is no special scientific term for it. It is raw energy that can be turned into certain forms based on the Paxan imagination. It can turn into elements and minerals, like water, fire, and can be used to manipulate certain energies, like wind. It can form rocks and the like, however, no matter how much energy is in one's bloodstream or how good an imagination a Paxan has, they cannot form complicated things, such as a house made of stone.
So, to some, the Paxans have limited magic abilities. However, they compensate for this by having higher than average magical energy, having great stamina and determination. The energy in their blood stream, when desired, dissolves through the skin pores and can be manipulated at will. One of the unique things about Paxan magic, is that their skin automatically forms small barriers to protect them from certain things. They are not strong, but prevent any magic being formed from affecting the Paxans.
This has taken many forms over the years, but a good example is when manipulating fire. The skin automatically forms a small barrier to keep the high heat from affecting the Paxans using it. Other examples include small barriers that prevent a Paxan from becoming wet, or from stray electricity to find it's way into their blood stream (making electricity attacks surprisingly ineffective.)
It should be noted these barriers are an involuntary system, like digestion and the like, and are not strong enough barrier to prevent much damage. If a fireball is thrown at the Paxan, and it does nothing to enforce the automatic barrier, the fireball will break the barrier and the Paxan will be injured.
Because it is a energy in the bloodstream, magic is susceptible to chemicals and hormones in the system. Adrenaline and the magic energy are potent mix. Magic energy can also stop poisoning and disease in the blood stream, making Paxans hard to poison or disease, but also, susceptible to emotions, as their magic can feed off of the emotion in their bloodstream.
There are several stereotypes resulting from this. One of which is that Paxans are very emotional, and easily swayed by their emotions. Although there are always exceptions, most Paxans do not fit this stereotype, but use their emotions to drive their magic in battle. Other stereotypes are the distinction between Bellicus and Imbellis.
Many people believe the Bellicus are angry, fierce, headstrong and always looking for a fight. This is not true. Many people also believe they are incapable of using defensive magic. Although unable to use their energy for advanced barriers and fortification and healing, Bellicus are still capable of all of these.
Imbellis streotypes are that they are always calm and peaceful. This is not always true, although the Imbellis seem to be naturally more at ease and soothing than their Bellicus counterparts. Many believe they are incapable of offensive magic. This is partially true, they are naturally inept at fireballs and lightning and the like, but they are not any less capable in a fight, using their restorative powers in unique ways. Powerful Imbellis are capable of imbuing things with life.
Hope I could clear some things up.
