Divine enchantments and you!
« on: September 28, 2010, 01:02:23 AM »
You know, I never really explained exactly what weapons like the Lance of Longinus or the Scythe of Katherine can do.

Think of them this way; these weapons have been enchanted by either 1. being with a divine being over a period of time, 2. harming a divine being for their holy blood (which divines anything it touches, so long as that blood is still in contact with the divine being), or 3. Cheating like Katherine did. (Hey!)
With that said, a few key characters come into mind whenever I say these requirements, the embodiments, the Gods (Or according to the new Mythos, 'Perfection'), and maybe sage and Hajeks, those are a bit of a stretch. So in other words, unless you're controlling any of the above mentioned, chances are you are going to have a really hard time getting a divine weapon.

But what do divine weapons do?!?!
They shave and produce spirit energy. In other words, divine weapons themselves can fully interact with spirit energy attacks by literally cutting/stabbing/shooting at them to negate said magic to bits, or to use as a conduit for infinite spirit energy for their attacks.
"You're crazy Zai. No. This thing is too god moddy. Not to mention you fucking cheated to get one, and now you're calling the shots on how to use it?! FUCK YOOOOU."
Slow down there. You didn't let me get to the parts where having a divine enchanted weapon/item may prove to be pretty retarded.
See, when you wield a divine weapon, that weapon becomes your spirit energy. If that weapon breaks while you're wielding it, you = dead, no spirit to go to the afterlife, gone for good, erased from existence, mortal coil no longer applies to you, the whole shebang. Actually, about a few days after you're NOT wielding it, your spirit is tied to said weapon as well, so you could literally die without actually knowing it if you've lost your divine weapon. However, in exchange for having just one more way to kill you, you literally have next to unlimited spirit energy, and the added ability to negate spirit energy used against you.

"Unlimited Spirit energy? HAAAAAX!!"
Durr. Though I will relay this little bit: Use a divine weapon/object too much, you start to become one with the weapon/object. In other words, if you've been using the lance of Longinus for a while, and if you use it to block an attack, you feel whatever you just blocked. How about when you negate a spirit energy attack? You feel the painful aftereffect. Some mortal beings after having a divine weapon for too long have been reported to even start treating their weapon or object as a completely other person, often looking like a insane person. Some even diagnosed with insanity.
Leaving the divine weapon alone after this starts to happen does not fix it. Once this happens, you are tied to the weapon forever until you die. So you might as well keep it with you.

Divine entities don't have this problem: they create spirit energy, it's a product of divinity itself. But, they don't enjoy the prospect of unlimited spirit from their divine object. To them, it's just a silly little sword/spear/staff/whatever that shaves off spirit energy whenever it gets in contact with a mortal being.

So, review! What do divine weapons/objects do?!

+Unlimited Spirit energy
+Ability to negate Spirit energy
+Can shave spirit off of a person when used against them

+- Divine beings gain no pros or cons from divine weapons aside from ability to shave spirit energy from a mortal being.

-The Divine weapon/object becomes another method to kill you permanently, even after you're not using it for a few days or so.
-Too much usage of it links your life and feelings with the weapon/object. (Insanity, treating the weapon/object like a whole other person.)
-Once feelings/life is attached, it becomes a major weakness forever to the point you might as well not use it.
-Really hard to get.
