The Virus isn't a novice. It's older than Hikaru, and is more familiar with magic than Hikaru. Though, that doesn't mean it's as powerful as Hikaru in magic. It's just that it has lived with magic longer. So... it obviously shows that it's no novice. A soul or a weave is merely an organ to produce magic. The Virus can act as its own soul or weave and produce magic.
