Outpost-Building
« on: November 22, 2010, 11:10:05 PM »
The Dark Heart once again made its way to this graveyard of ships, though not to go excavating in it. They towed a large amount of materials with them, as well as a medium sized asteroid, to build a outpost here. While the first time they came here, they had no idea what was going on, the Mercs had come to like the big old creature that lived in the debris field. They called him 'Giovanni', after agreeing it was a cool name for a cool whatever-he-was. And so, they brought a loooot of scrap metals and such with them when they brought the asteroid, metal they wouldn't be able to use; they unterstood he ate destroyed ships, which meant his diet consisted of metals, so they wanted to give the big guy some food, try to see if they couldn't befriend him. Of course, they kept a distance from the offering, just in case he didn't notice that them there. And while they waited to see if he'd appear, they got to work on building their new outpost, to not only get contact with people far from Earth(which would allow them more jobs), but to also, in a sense, gain control of the debris field. It was built onto, and into, the asteroid, with the base gaining many structures upon it. Since they lacked manpower, its defenses and such were controlled by a Archive-Type VI, that is, a VI program made in much the same way as the Archive's. If they ever gained more manpower, well, it wasn't a small asteroid, and the outpost was made to house a large amount of people, too. Defensively, it had four rail cannon turrets, two missile launchers, a shielding system, a cloaking system and to top it off, it had built in thrusters, to allow it to move. The station would never go INSIDE the field, but instead would move around it. The thrusters were mainly in case Giovanni mistook the Outpost for a snack. The station was also built with production capabilities, so they'd be able to salvage ships from the field and use the materials to build new weapons or whatever, though they'd never take much.
