Zero Light, AKA Devour
« on: January 06, 2011, 06:33:24 PM »
Name:He calls his 'Secret Identity' Zero Light, while his 'Superhero Identity' is known as Devour
Age: He's around 300 years, give or take.
Race:He's TECHNICALLY Lorcar, though a outcasted prototype Caste. The Caste was designed as a shapeshifter, and while he seemed initially to be a success, attempts to link him to the Lorcar Hive Mind were futile. As a completely unrelated side note*coughcough*, he has a spirit of his own.
Alliance:None yet, he just goes to different planets to beat up criminals.
Biography:Zero was made like most Lorcar:Artificially. His genes were mapped to give him total control over his body's form; its shape, color, and to a degree, his size. As such, he doesn't really have internal organs like most creatures; his 'skin' acts like the respiratory system, bringing in any needed gases directly, and every cell in his body breaks down food. His 'skin' is just a grouping of cells reprogrammed not to break down biomatter. He himself is one of a few of this 'prototype' Caste, and one of the only remaining. As for a 'brain', at the center of the form is a 'core', which functions for that purpose. Like most Lorcar, he has a bit of psychic potential, but his is largely untapped. Like the rest of these prototype Castes, he developed a Spirit of his own, and the Lorcar were unable to link his mind to their pseudo-Hive Mind. They were able to form a psychic link to communicate to a degree, but his mind stayed completely separate from the rest of the Lorcar. This was a unprecedented among them, and Delton knew they would not fit into the Lorcar society, not as such. But, all the same, it'd be a terrible waste to simply kill them...So he had them exiled before they matured enough to develop their own consciousness. Each was put into its own Bio-Pod, and basically catapulted offworld to fly through space. In all likelihood, they'd eventually land on a planet, after all.

Zero's pod flew through space for 50 Terran years, all of which its mind developed. Personality traits and such didn't, but his instincts taught him subconsciously how to control his abilities. With most Lorcar, they'd learn through their hivemind, but he had no such ability, and so he learned during his 50-Year hibernation. He only survived the trip because of this hibernation, in fact, since otherwise his body would've used all of its biological resources up and starved. After these 50 years, he landed on a planet...Called 'Earth'. His Bio-Pod, though aged, stayed true to its purpose, and landed without killing him, yet still cracking upon the planet's surface. The jolt woke him up, and his instincts took over. Even with his hibernation keeping him alive...He was famished. His form was much like a blob, seeing as he had nothing to mimic as of yet. In this form, he absorbed and consumed the Biomatter around him, mostly grass, shrubs, a few squirrels, he even cannibalized his Bio-Pod for raw biological materials. He'd landed in Central Park, NY, in the middle of the night. The year, 1904. There were few people out at the time, and while his landing caused a bit of stir, nobody found any remnants of the 'meteor' that landed in Central Park. By the time the people had arrived, he was wasn't very 'hungry' anymore, and his instincts laid off a bit. Still, he was mostly feral at the time, and while he could perceive these walking primates as the dominant species, he didn't entirely understand much about them. He eventually learned about these creatures, picking up their customs, mannerisms, that sort of thing through observation from the shadows, and subconsciously picking up their brain patterns with his slight psychic abilities. He'd even learned how to read and speak from them, and once his mind had developed enough so that he wasn't just mimicking them, he was actually speaking and not just acting the part, but actually having a personality of his own, he created a physical form and identity for himself.

This process was a long one; around 30 years, making him around 80 years of age total. He looked, however, about 19. His fabricated name, Zero Light, drew attention to him, for obvious reasons. He never could figure out why, but he hadn't let it bother him much. Over the next five years, he got himself a home, a job, legally instated as a American citizen(he had a few hard times with that one, and almost got deported one time...Lucky for him, they never could figure out where he was from, and this was before DNA testing was invented). And then, in 1939, Marvel Comics was made, though back then it was under the name of Timely Productions.

Zero thought they were complete geniuses. He bought comics all the time, and very much enjoyed them. This was, of course, before the invention of such things as TV, and movies weren't exactly as we knew them, so comics were a very, very good source of entertainment for him. And, since this was so close to when his mind had developed, they had a profound affect on his personality. Unlike most Lorcar, who isolated themselves from those outside their species(to put it nicely; putting it realistically would be that they outright disdained those outside their species, and thought them only as food), he connected with others, and he grew a conscience, and a sense of heroism. He understood that he wasn't quite human, considering he could morph his body the way he could, and felt that he could become a true, real-life 'Hero'. The only problem was that he hadn't felt himself ready to take up full-time heroing, but he found a bit of inspiration during the later parts of World War 2. He'd been drafted into the war, like many Americans, and through this, he learned how to use a gun. He had been deployed onto the European front, and had participated in many battles. In one such battle, he and his squad were pinned down in a building, and the ranking officer of the squad was wounded.

It was a desperate firefight, since there were 30-40 German soldiers, and aside from Zero and their officer, only four remained who could fire a gun. During the war, he'd gotten the name 'Seven', due to his apparent luck at never being severely injured by a shot, and he decided he'd put his nickname to the test during that battle. He told his allies to fall back into the building, protecting their wounded, while he went out for a last ditch assault. He didn't wait for them to object, and while they did yell at him for being a crazy idiot and to get back there, they obliged, not wanting his sacrifice(since they thought he was offering himself as a distraction for them to get to safety) to be in vain. He kept charging the Nazi soldiers, firing at them all that he saw. After a couple of minutes, once he was sure his squadmates had retreated like he said, he first used his power in a long time, at least the first time he used it to such affect. He shifted his entire body to become what can only be described as a monster, with bladelike teeth, enlarged his torso, turned his hands into claws, and formed tendrils from his back. He brutally slaughtered the Nazi soldiers, seeming almost impervious to their bullets, as he shredded them with his claws, stabbed through them with his tendrils. He never let them report back to their commanders, killing any he saw attempting to call in reinforcements, but the few he saw attempting to run away instead of trying to kill him, he let go. He also spared the wounded, and the medics tending to them, feeling it wasn't very 'heroic' to kill those who couldn't fight back. Once he was sure they were safe, he turned back into his normal form, replicating his uniform instead of trying to patch it back into a normal shape. He made it look realistic, of course, and it thus had the look that it'd been singed, shot up, and such, and he returned to the building to find his squad. When he found them, he'd almost been shot, as they'd thought the Nazi soldiers must have found them, but when they saw Zero, they nearly cried with relief. From then on, his nickname wasn't Seven anymore, but he was instead called 'Super-Soldier' and 'War-Hero', seeing as, from what they knew, there wasn't even a 1% chance of him surviving that.

The rest of the war wasn't nearly as exciting as that, and he eventually went back to New York, being recognized as a War Hero by the US Army for his incredible bravery. He continued to read his comics, and continued his job, until decades later, the Vietnam War began. He didn't wait for the draft, and actually enlisted during this spot of time, feeling that this was another chance for him to do his part. When he enlisted, he was met with recognition for his exploits during WWII, and was made a Officer of his own squad.

As we should all know, the Vietnam War was a disaster. His squad had originally consisted of ten men, excluding himself. Then, during the high point of his part in the war, only 5 were left. Most people, in that situation, would feel grief and sadness over the loss of their men. But Lorcar...Lorcar dont get sad when their friends die. Lorcar get enraged. He was determined to get the rest of his troops out alive, and wouldn't stand for another one to die. This was when they were to be extracted from the war zone, and returned home. But there was a lot of jungle between them and the nearest clearing they be able to be extracted from, and a lot of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers in that jungle. He knew a outright charge would be suicide, at least for his soldiers, so he had them take it nice and slow. They followed his command, and they eventually made it to the clearing. He radioed for a evacuation helicopter to arrive, and was told they were on the way. It was around then, that they were ambushed by the opposing forces. Unlike his battle during WWII, it was a bloody massacre. None of his men died, but by the time between the rescue getting there and his radioing them in, they were in desperate need of medical attention. And he was mad.

While waiting for the rescue, during the battle, he dragged their unconscious bodies to the edge of the clearing, and unleashed all hell upon the enemy soldiers. He didn't take the same form as during the WWII battle, but instead kept his form much the same, changing during his attacks. He'd thrown down his gun, and rushed into a melee with his foes. He grappled one of them by the throat, and through his hand, tendrils forced themselves into the person's skin and throughout their body, and digested him from the inside out, while his other arm turned into a blade, and he stabbed into the foe's chest. Pulling back the tendrils from the first foe and letting the partially-eaten corpse go, he turned his arm into a claw, and rended the flesh  from another of them. This was mostly enough to convince them that he wasn't human, and most ran, though a few out of fear just kept firing, thinking it'd do them good. The bullets hit him, yes, but since he didn't have any vital organ for them to hit(aside from his core, but his flesh stopped the bullets before they reached it), they did nothing against him. He turned his hands into blades, and his arms into tendrils, and threw his bladed arms at them from a distance, even throwing dead soldiers at other soldiers to get the corpses off his arm. A hour after the last of the soldiers were killed, the evac made it, and he picked up his soldiers and loaded them into the helicopter. Him and his men were returned to civilian life after that, and the next few decades were mostly uneventful.

He felt he still had something he was needed for, considering how he continued to live without aging, whereas those around him grew older and older. Years turned to decades, and finally humanity's early ventures into the space age occurred. He thought back to his old war days, and thought of his comics, and finally decided to do something. At around 2017, he created a alter-ego, that he called 'Devour'. This form of his was close in aspects to his WWII form, mixed with the Marvel character Venom, and he was inspired a lot by the character, considering how similar their abilities were in aspects((Venom, for the record, has usually been portrayed as a anti-hero, not a villain)). It had a massive fanged jaw in a more-or-less humanoid face with jagged 'teardrop' eyes, clawed hands, a cape(just for the awesomeness factor), the tendrils coming from its back you know, that sort of thing. Color-wise, it was primarily crimson, with two trims; one black, the other a deep gray, and the cape was a very, very dark shade of red. And so, he set out as a hero, fighting any crime he could find. At first, it was just small stuff, a petty thief here, a convenience store robber there. But, as time went on, he moved to bigger crimes, like bank robberies, kidnappings, mass murderers. And, while he never killed anyone('least, not on purpose), crime did indeed lower.

The decades went by, and eventually a century had passed. Over time, he'd inspired many more vigilantes to rise up, and defend their cities from crime. Feeling his job there was done, he left Earth on a ship, and has since made his way throughout the galaxy, fighting crime wherever he's found it.
Weapons: He uses whatever at hand, mostly, though he does still have a few relics from his WWII and Vietnam War days. But normally, he IS the weapon.
Equipment: Same as for weapons. If it counts, he still has a lot of the old Marvel comics, as well as a few video game consoles and such.
Magic Level: 0, nada, none-at-all!
Appearance: He's a shapeshifter, so he doesn't have a definite form, but he usually takes this form when he's in his 'Human' form:http://cannibaltaco34.deviantart.com/art/Anime-Guy-138019301?q=boost%3Apopular%20anime%20dude&qo=26
And this form(though with the aforementioned color scheme and anything else about it) when in his 'Monster' Form:http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=where%20are%20you%20peter?%20venom%20symbiote&order=9&offset=24#/d2fq0hx

Psyker Level:Following the same scale I made with Delton, he's about a 2.

How did he develop a spirit, and why is he a super hero?
That second one doesn't have to be answered. Just weirded out curiosity. The first one however, please answer.

That I shall answer then, Hik. The second in the bio, but the first right here. I'll say about the second one is...He ends up having lived on Earth for a while, since he's a outcast(all of these prototype Castes are, but blarg).
As for the spirit being developed, uuuhhhhhhh...Hadn't thought much on that, but it IS a good point. The best I can figure is that due to them being prototypes for a new Lorcar Caste(which they dont normally do, its just this one would've been really hard, what with the whole 'shapeshifting thing'), their DNA was sufficiently different than that of a normal Lorcar that they're like a different species, in a sense. Its not the method of development that prohibits them a spirit, so much as that they ARE Lorcar. His DNA is still Lorcar, but I guess its different enough that they are, yet aren't, Lorcar. If that doesn't work, just say so and I'll try to think of a different one...Failing that, I'll just go Gaser's route and say 'ANOMALY WHOOOO!' XD But the spirit being developed, I can tell you, was definitely not intentional.

And Nik...Um...Uh...I guess...? I dont see where that would've come from, to be honest...The Caste is mostly based off a combination of Alex Mercer of Prototype and of Venom from Marvel(not the symbiote part, but his method of fighting), so its POSSIBLE for him to form a axe, sure...But I dont see where that question came from, to be honest.

Seeing the world through a child's eyes is truly a unique experience. It helps you to retrieve that sense of awe, magic and wonder that you lost as you lost your innocence. Tell me, when was the last time that you thought of those childhood dreams? You know, the ones that you used to spend all your time wondering and fantasizing about? Have you forgotten them so easily? Have you forgotten what it felt like to see something for the first time, to see the magic in the mundane? Everyone says you should take the time to 'Stop and smell the roses'. But you should also take the time to look for the fairies, embrace the wind and enjoy the rain. Just once today, stop for a moment and look into that little piece of nature you pass everyday. Perhaps you may see something you did not notice before.

He has this character in use.
