World of the Dead, Haven for Necromancers
« on: January 30, 2011, 12:53:33 AM »
Lauren was in some form of intergalactic taxi, headed for who-knows-where at the time, when it went out of hyperspace(or whatever) to refuel. She looked out the window, while giving a bit of water to the planet she got back at Lorei; it seemed to respond with joy, as much as a plant can, that is. She pointed at the planet, asking,"Hey, Red? Whats with that planet? It looks so...Dead."
"Ah, thats 'cause it is, Lauren. Used to be a real nice place, it was, but apparently some war broke out. Nobody survived, so they say. Been a long time since anyone's been there." The driver said, looking back at the girl. The driver, whose name was Jenny, was also female, and had bright red hair(which was the source of her nickname, 'Red'), a nice contrast to Lauren's dark blue. What with Lauren needing transportation to so many places, the two had met a few times, and quickly became friends. At first, she was rather...Surprised, by Lauren's 'talents', but over time had come to acclimate to the skeletal helpers of the blue-haired Necromantress.
"Hm...Why dont you drop me off there?"
"You crazy? Sure, it'll support life, but there's nobody...Well...There. Why would you want to?"
"Well...There's nobody here right now, but I think that even from the ruins of a civilization, new life can prosper."
"Whats that s'posed to mean, you think yer gonna repopulate that place by yerself? Look, even if ya have good intentions, usually ya need a boy and a girl to make a child, and you seem a few guys short."
"No, no, nothing like that. I figure that if I made a outpost on-world, and got a few signals out, I can attract people over here, maybe start a few settlements."
"What kinda people would wanna come to this planet, eh? Unless you wanna have a world of Necromancers like yourself."
"Well...With a war capable of killing all the sentient life on the planet, it'd destroy the previous ecosystem, so after all this time I dont think there'd remain much of anything alive. I'd think most of the bodies would be in a fairly good condition in that case, though I probably will need to clear them out of the areas for the settlements to get rid of the stench. And...well, there might be a few other Necromancers with the skills I wanna learn."
"That...Might actually work. Alright, I guess next stop's that place."

Once they landed, Jenny let Lauren out, saying,"Well...I guess this'll be goodbye, since I dont think you'll need to be going to new planets."
"Well...Why dont you stick around, Jen? Im gonna need a little bit of help preparing the settlements, though Im not gonna make you clear the bodies. And if all goes well, you can start a bit of a taxi business here, which'll help a lot, seeing as people're gonna have to get here somehow."
"Yeah...But I still owe a bit of money to the corporation Im currently in. If I dont pay them back, I wont be able to keep my cab, and it'll look reeeaaally bad on my reputation."
"Well, I might be able to help. I have some cash on me. After all, how do ya think I've been able to keep paying you for all the trips?"
"Hm, good point. You'd really do that?"
"Sure. We're friends, right?"
"Yeah, thanks. Ah, but I still have to leave to get fuel, though. Its why we stopped around here in the first place, after all."

When Jenny left, Lauren got to work with reanimating a few of the corpses, and creating skeletons for help, and having the Undead clear any other corpses in the area away. Once that was done, they got to finding electronic parts to build a (admittedly crude)transmitter, to give a transmission to other planets, some thing along the lines of 'Calling all Necromancers, sentient Undead, and really open-minded people in general! We're trying to start up a settlement at these coordinates, but we're lacking in citizens at the time. If your tired of the current state of affairs at your home planet, or the taboo associated with any practice of yours, then feel free to come here and join other likeminded people! Oh, and while we will expand and create several settlements around the planet, we're starting at this location, so please help out.'
Around that time, Jenny returned, and after asking Lauren what she was doing, decided to help. Jenny usually did most of the work on her space...Taxi...Thing, so she had a bit of electrical and auto knowledge, allowing her to aid in the design of the transmitter. While she and Lauren worked on that, the Undead got to work preparing the ruined area for habitation, making repairs on the surrounding buildings. It would take a while before everything was ready(though they'd be accepting new arrivals while it all was going on), but they worked to make a new world, where the taboo of other cultures did not apply, and where such people could live with one another to train their crafts.

As the population grew, more work was done, allowing for the first community to be set up. Lauren was recognized as a 'leader' figure for having thought up the idea, but would have none of it. She reasoned,"Why do we need someone around, telling us what we can and cant do?"
Among the outcasts and these people, her words made sense. And so their society grew to be anarchistic, but with law-While there wasn't a formal law enforcement system, if someone wronged you, or a friend of yours then your allowed revenge. And considering how Necromancers get revenge, even against other Necromancers...Lets just say "crime's" at a low. Several settlements were established, all consisting mainly of Necromancers, Liches(or other sentient undead thereof), and a close third of what seemed to be canibles(all claiming their food of choice wasn't made from their neighbors). Of course, there were other demographics, but those were majorities, everyone else still an outsider from where they came by their choices to ignore local taboos. While not officially the leader, Lauren had a lot of sway among the people, being generally well liked, but she rarely used it. There was one bit of a 'law':To prohibit any regime from taking power. Any armies were to be attacked, soldiers kept away.

The name chosen by Lauren and Jenny seemed to stick-Necorana, though nobody really knew why. Most agree that its probably just because it sounds cool.
