Some elemental tech
« on: February 02, 2010, 04:03:31 PM »
Since the appearance of the Elementals, a company has started using some tech to amplify their abilities.

Elemental Guns:
The use small magical crystals to store the energy of the elemental and are used as ammunition. Each elemental type can use these types of weaponry because these weapons amplify the energy stored in the crystals. To use these weapons the elemental has to store energy in the crystals before using them, they can't just pick up the gun and shoot fire or dark matter or whatever type of magical energy they use.

They work by having the elemental insert some energy into the crystal, sticking it into the magazine. At most the crystals can hold 36 shots but you could store less if you needed. When the trigger is pulled a small amount of energy is released to the firing stage which puts it into a semi solid form and the shoots it off.

These weapons are commonly shotguns or machine guns as a pistol would not be as powerful for each shot, which takes up the same amount of magical energy from the crystals.

How long does it take to put in 36 shots of energy into the crystal?

It depends the crystals can hold about 36 and its usually stored before hand like I said... It really does depend on the tpe of elementals using it because some are longer or harder than others, Water, fire, and darkness would be the fastest, and divine, light, and wind would be the hardest and longest.
Fo the shortest, water, it would take 30 minutes. But for a divine, the longest, it would take quite a while.

Woah... 30 minutes to load a machine gun? Why? Are the guns very powerful?

How much damage can these guns do with that kind of reload rate? Taking 15 minutes to reload would make you run around avoiding fire while waiting to reload, while people with standard issue rifles, which would be able to reload in seconds, would be shooting you down. You would have nothing to defend yourself with for 15 minutes. Even if the guns pack a heavy punch, it shouldn't take a minute to reload. The only reason I see why it takes you that long to reload is because these guns would be like rocket launchers, but that would be unreasonable. The guns shouldn't act like rocket launchers.

Well, if there is a heavy drawback, I don't see why not they couldn't fire with enough power to rival a missile launcher. But I suggest you make less time consuming weapons to have an effective army, otherwise you'd die while reloading.
The world is a mess..and I just need to..rule it.

Not to mention that the Elementals, as a species, pretty much view technology as the 'craft' of science based species, while viewing their own magic as the 'craft' of their species of Elementals...They dont generally use technology themselves(this isn't to say that they CANT like tech, as by all means Zak's Elementals differed from the mainstream, its just that its not as popular among them).
Basically, there isn't likely to be giant armies using these.

The only thing I wanna know is, considering Divine Elementals use magic that summons familiars, how would that work?

Well, the crystals have to be small to be multiple. I doubt it takes 15 minutes to load a clip-full of crystals. Needs to be less. More like a minute tops.

What is the damage?

Wouldn't that overheat the guns pretty easily? The machine gun could probably take the heat, since it is only 36 rounds.

Not really, the weapons are made to withstand a lot so it wouldn't overheat unles you fired off... oh say 100+ rounds in short order.
Besides it takes a pause of 5 seconds after each shot.
It is hard to get the magic out tech wise so...

Machine gun means it is automatic, you can hold the trigger down and bullets, or magic, will fly.
Auto-shotguns: pause. BAAM! pause. BAAM!

Yeah, but it's 5 times the damage. I bet it would have an increase of heat when it is fired. I suppose the guns are built for it, then? And the reloading is still a problem.

That is why people store magic in before the battle. Then they put the crystals into the magazine and after 36 shots the crystal is ejected. Then the other one  is in.

You have a point. Alright. Approved, then, if you insist.
