I'll be right here waiting, sis.

A whisper in the wind... The cry of a brother.

I've heard it said that people come into our lives

"Sis, if you can hear me, I'm right here waiting."

K2323 could remember the first time he had ever heard mention of his sister. At the time, he had no idea that the conversation was about his sister, of course, but he knew all too well now. He wished now that he could scream to his eight year old self, to tell his small form what he needed to know. He couldn't.

Night fell across the dimension of the Guardians, though K2323, who sat on the Fifth Story Public Balcony, was wide awake. His feet dangled off the balcony, his legs neatly slipped through the balcony railing. The boy, no older than eight years old, just sat there, looking out at the gray-like sky which the base forever floated in. It was levitating there. Levitas Eterna, a spell he'd learned today from Konjan, came to mind.

Deciding to practice the spell now, K2323 turned his upper-body, glancing to his back. There was a small table behind him, nesting firmly on the balcony. K2323 concentrated on the table for a moment, long and hard... No results. It wasn't working!

This was typical, just typical. K2323 never got spells right, unlike his 'prodigy' brother who seemed to be a real master at getting down spells on the first try. It was as if K2323 would never surpass his brother. Instead, he'd always be in his brother's shadow. A weakling, the weakest in the dimension.

And suddenly, a few moments later, the table was levitating. K2323 turned around, sensing something, and he was astonished to see the floating table. His spell really had worked? Of course, it wasn't perfect... The table was wobbling, a result of an unsteady flow of magic.

And suddenly, something fell from the table. A green stone of some sorts which K2323 picked up with interest, giving it a good glance. He casted a delevitas spell on the table and began to stare at the stone, trying to imagine its purpose. Suddenly, the stone lit up, and K2323 found himself... Hearing a conversation somewhere else... Somewhere with a pool table? That room was a story below where K2323 was now!

"Yes, I do see your point, elder, sir," the voice of Konjan rang as the elder took his turn at hitting the billiards.

"I'm afraid you don't, Konjan," the elder replied, "Mistress Hikaru is a dangerous force."

"I still think we should try to rescue her!"

"She doesn't want to be rescued. She's no longer the sweet and innocent girl of two years old who you met as a teena-"

"Do not speak of that visit to that village!"

"I'm sorry, Konjan, I know about the painful memories you have of that visit," the elder replied as Konjan took his turn in the game of pool.

"No, you do not. Those people were good people... And they were killed. By Zere!"

"By Hikaru."

"Hikaru was tricked!"

"Exactly. And now we can't reverse the damage that's been done to her mind."

"I'll be damned if I don't try -"

"Stop... Your student is listening. We must not discuss this further. He must not know who she is or what she did to his kind. Now, don't you have a lesson plan to prepare?"

"Yes," Konjan admitted, "I must go prepare a lesson on healing magic."

"The inject, spread, absorb method. ISA. One of my favorites," the elder replied.

"Farewell, elder. Have a good night."

"You too, my son. I must tend to some crazy mages down stairs who are saying some sage has learned the travel of dimensions as we have. Preposterous, doesn't even deserve looking into."

That had been oh so long ago, and of course, K2323 never would have guessed that Konjan and the elder were talking about his sister. They were, though. Just a few years later, he would begin his journey when his sister found him. At eight, K2323 had no idea what was ahead of him. That conversation seemed so small back then, but it wasn't really.

For a reason, bringing something we must learn.

"Sis, I'll keep trying... to find a way to bring you home."

And we are led to those who help us most to grow.

"We've come so far. You've been there for me through everything. If it wasn't for you, I'd never have experienced all this... This journey. My life. Everything. I owe it all to you, sis. And now, I want to help you. I want to do all I can to help you."

If we let them and we help them in return.

"I know we don't always get along, but you're my sister. I may not be strong enough to do anything now, but you wait. I'll get stronger and find a way to rescue you. You can count on it, sis."

Well I don't know if I believe that's true, but I know I'm who I am today, because I met you.

"You should have seen it, sis. We all binded together to defeat Plex. It was... amazing. The feeling that everyone felt... It was just like us, when we were young. Remember that feeling, sis? Like nothing could stop us? It felt so good to feel that way again."

Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes a sun. Like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood.

"Sis, I found her. My wife. She was alive this whole time, and I found her. If I can find her, I can find you. I don't care what they say, sis. I know you're still alive out there somewhere. And if the Arami Scrolls are still out there, maybe they can be used to bring you back. Somehow, someday, you wait, sis. I'll find a way."

Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I met you, I have been changed for good.
