Interview

[Admiral Regis Hermitage]

Church arrived at the building and approached reception. "Im her for a job interview."

"Hello," the receptionist greeted in a friendly voice, "Can I get your name please?"

He shows her his ID. "Lord, Nathaniel Church."

"Right," she replied, printing him out a visitors pass, "Please wait to be beamed to your Interview R-"

Light flashed around Church as his every molecule was decomposed, circulated at the speed of light through fiber optics running through the walls of the station, and recomposed inside a small room, bare of decorations, with two chairs inside it and a small desk between the two, occupied only by a sheet of paper, a quill feather, and a jar of ink. Soon after Church was beamed down, the door opened, and in came the President of Security...

Eric Mann.

A friendly smile on his face, Eric reached out and offered his hand to Church.

"Eric Mann, President of Security."

He stand up and shakes Mann's hand. "Lord Nathaniel Church. Eric Mann right? You used to be the Zarethian Intelligence Community Director, right? You knew a very famous Belkan Admiral. I believe his name was Hermitage or something."

"Ground rule number one. Eric Mann is dead. Eric Mann died eight years ago in an explosion on Tefillin after the Zarethian council learned too much of his... Operations which were outside conventional Zarethian law. As far as the public knows, the Galactic, Inc. President of Security is a former Black Guard member who prefers his privacy. This is a cover story created to maintain the image of my death," he explained.

As he shook Church's hand, he injected a needle of some sorts which had been concealed as part of his ring into Church's hand, though Church would only feel a slight sting. "Do excuse that, it is necessary for vital scanning," he explained.

 With the sting, Church's reactions kicked in. He grabbed Mann's arm with his other hand, and swung him into a chicken wing hold, and slamming him against the wall. At the quick realization of his defense reaction, he released his hold and stepped back.

"Terribly sorry. Old habits." He explains to him.

But before he could release his hold on Mann, the entire form of Mann turned to water, slipping through Church's hand, and Mann himself reappeared behind Church, slamming him in turn into the wall. "Ground rule number two... I am your boss. I am in command. I will always be in command."

He released Church before sitting in one of the two chairs, motioning for Church to sit down. "Sorry about that."

As he is pushed up against the wall, his eyes turn bloodshot. "Pull something like that again, and being in command will no longer be problem, Admiral..." he says in his bitter, vampiric, tone. As he is released, his voice returns to normal, and his eyes return from their bloodshot state.

"Touche, Mann. Touche." he nods to him and takes his seat. "As you've probably figured out, im a bit different." he grins to show his fangs.

"I assure you, that this is to your own benefit however." he leans back and folds his hands.

"As long as you understand that insubordination is NOT acceptable, we will not have a problem. I have just one question to conclude this interview... You've already passed the majority of it based on your reactions. You're faced with a choice. Let the C.E.O. of Galactic, Inc. die or be killed. Which do you chose?" Mann asked.

[Admiral Regis Hermitage]

"If i am given this position, i will execute it to my fullest ability, in accordance with my superior officer." he states almost as if it were out of a military manual. Which, to his remnant knowledge of his military years, it very well may have been. He quickly snapped out of it before he starts any flashbacks.

"Eh, why not?" Eric Mann replied, waving his hand, "You've got the job."

"And I take it that this place has housing, correct?" Church inquires.

"Oh, you misunderstand, Mr. Church," Eric Mann replied, smiling, "Our media space station is the least of our worries... You won't be working here at all... This place is just for show."

He began to laugh -- maniacally, almost -- at that statement, as if he were trying to share some private joke with Church, something that the rest of the world didn't know. But whatever did he mean? There was no way to be certain. No, Eric was always like this, hiding something up his sleeve. And he never, ever stopped.

A contract appeared on the table, saying -- among other things -- that Church's body would cease to exist the moment he shared the secrets of the Galactic, Inc.

"Please," Eric insisted, "Sign in blood."
