Learn about the Novierians~
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:22:42 AM »
Time for another installment of... "Learn about ___~"! Basically, I put down large, large sums of information about a race that no one is ever going to play as, ranging from who and what they are to the kind of lifestyle and culture they lead to their history. In typical Learn About fashion, the first post is usually dedicated to quoting the race topic information and then setting up some form of format to what kind of stuff is going to be explained (Which half of the stuff is probably going to be left unexplained due to either A, there really wasn't much there to being with, or B, not motivated enough to make more information.).

Without any further ado, let's start up 'Learn about the Noverians~' ! First, the race request.

Novierian Race:

A Novierian is a sentient being capable of living for more than 400 years with more than a few characteristics to include. Ever since the beginning of Novierian history, they have all been espers (capable of ESP, PSI, however you want to call it.). Some of their abilities include levitating, pyrotechnics (manipulation of Fire and Thunder), Cyrotechnics (manipulation of ice, freezing things, etc), and limited control of teleportation. They cannot read minds, mostly because their minds cannot be read (100% resistance, don't even try it.) They are a proud race, unwilling to do wrong to others for it would only make themselves feel at odds. But for when the situation calls for it, or when severely insulted, they will take action to the highest degree.

How a Novierian looks is a bit difficult to imagine. Your average Novierian takes on a human shaped form with dark gray, blue, and the rarely seen black skin. For example, their feet aren't feet at all, but rather blunt 'peg legs.' How they keep their balance so well is unknown even to them; but with these they are capable of running faster than a lot of races (if they so choose to run.). Another thing to keep in mind is that they have only two fingers and a thumb. Because of the small amount of fingers, they take up almost the whole hand (not to mention that their knuckles are pretty hard. A Novierian's body is quite sturdy.)
Aside from this, a lot of the basic anatomy is similar to a human aside from that their forearms are a tad longer, and they span about 1 or 2 feet taller than the average human (about 6-7 feet.).
Their face is also worth a look at, considering that the only facial feature they have is eyes. No ears, no mouth, no nose, nothing. The ESP of a Novierian works all senses aside from sight. Hair is not foreign to a Novierian, as they usually either like to spike their hair in large spines, ponytail it, let it down without any styling, or they'll go bald. They usually never keep short hair: it's either long or no hair at all. The hair color can be almost any dark color.
A Novierian's eye, however, is a completely different story. If one were to look into one, there would be only a 'plate' with quite a few visible etchings. The plate itself can be different colors, however, everything around the plate is black.
The final feature of a Novierian is their markings. Many Novierians don't have markings, however, there are a few that do. These markings seem to etch themselves in a Novierian's skin around the hands, neck, and ankles. It is said that those marked hold great and unimaginable ESP powers, and will glow blue or orange whenever in use of their powers.

However, ever since the early times of the Novierians, they believed their ESP to be gifts from an omnipotent being, and thus have decided that it was only to be used when truly needed.
Ever since then, their main focus had been improving on themselves, such as creating fighting styles or their physical fitness, and even a substantial increase in technological advances.
As they grew as a race however, their ESP powers grew for reasons unknown, despite the fact that they were rarely used. Novierian scientists made the connection that their ESP plays a vital role in their immunity systems, and thus allowed those abilities to still develop.

Resources and how Novierians are connected to Migaitt

The building and resources all come directly from the black dwarf, Migaitt. With powerful technology in place, the Novierians can 'teleport' limited quantities of metals from Migaitt and manipulate it's shape to their preferred structure. Since Migaitt is so frikkin' big, the materials are open to all Novierians, just as long as they don't surpass the limit each one has access to. (How Migaitt is used for ship construction will be explained.)

A Novierian is quite deadly by just itself, but war in comparison just makes them average at best. Some of the technologies they have at their disposal enhances quite a bit of their abilities, as most of their technology takes full advantage of their ESP abilities for not only power but for their simple functions. With this in mind, a non-Novierian couldn't use any of their weapons unless 1. They had ESP and 2. They were psychologically connected to the Black Dwarf, Migaitt. Since Novierians seem to be the only ones that fit these requirements, they have specialized arsenal all to themselves. It is wise to never catch a Novierian in a bad mood however; they have multiple martial arts (They refer them as 'gear arts' for whatever reason) as well as their ESP abilities. Some Novierians can even use both in conjunction for improved effect in their combat style, making them that much more deadly.

How is a Novierian psychologically connected to Migaitt? There is a lot of superstition among the Novierians that they themselves came from Migaitt somehow back when it was still a star. Others see Migaitt as their version of the horoscope (which ironically is very accurate). The Novierians that still believe in a omnipotent being think that their god lives inside Migaitt. Whatever the reason that makes them connected to the black dwarf just works, and they are more than happy to use it and all of it's free resources.

(By the way, if any of you dare make characters that JUST SO HAPPENS to have a connection to Migaitt and has ESP so you could use my tech... Just... wow. You'd have to be pretty dumb. Basically you MUST be a Novierian to use anything that they make. Making use of my stuff when you're not just means you're a god modding retard. End of discussion.)

There's the original request in it's entirety. If you look hard enough, and are well versed in Noverian lore and how they work (AKA absolutely none of you.), you can spot at least a few inconsistencies in how they actually work. And these inconsistencies aren't because I changed my mind later when I was messing with them, or I didn't feel it fit with them all too well, they're there now because they actually grew as a race in the short time they were on SP.

Yes, this is the one race I made that actually not only saw some use aside from some random characters doing random things, but as an actual empire with wants and needs, and beliefs to uphold for not only it's people, but for how it was roleplayed as well. Because of this, even though this race started off with far less content than my other two races (Solstici and Blood Dragons), this race is far more richer in culture, backstory, and just general content. Novierians had their hand in quite a few things, up until they were quite literally wiped out. As of right now, the only Novierian character worth mentioning nowadays is Synthe, whom hasn't been seen in the RP since his topic in 'Other' with one of Ino's characters, whom is long gone. While it is possible for other Novierians to exist, it still remains to be a race that I, nowadays, kind of want to keep to myself.

Alrighty, so let's get into the goals of this Dossier topic.

1. Origins. I once had this explained in great detail somewhere, but not only can I no longer find it, but it seems to have disappeared off the face of the interwebs. Which is totally cool, since I can do it far more justice here now that I have everything in mind and can flesh things out a looot more.
2. Culture and Major events. These guys actually had a hand in SP, so there's a lot to talk about here.
3. ESP, magic, and why Novierians never could get the hang of said magic.
4. Why I kinda wish I was a Novierian. (more of a joke point, but it's pretty deep, believe it or not.)
5. Inspiration for the creation of Novierians.

Keep in mind I probably won't be able to go into all of these points, but they're here so I at least have an idea of what to write about when I come back to write about them.

Let's start off with Origins. I love love love LOVE the origins for Novierians, not because it's so different, but there's a lot of different ways to look at it!

For many Novierians, their beginning is as conflicted as ours today. Did a god create them? Did they evolve into being? Does their creation have anything to do with the fact that they have no afterlife? There are numerous theories to tie in each of these things, while others tend to focus on just one.
First, the religious perspective.
At once, a god known as Migaitt lived on Planet Novier. And, well, being on this planet alone, was rather disheartening. Then, Migaitt created the Novierians in his image. However, these Novierians could not communicate like how thousands of other races did at their time, and it was then that Migaitt gave them the ability to think to one another, to free open their minds, their emotions to the air around them as they psyche would affect and communicate with one another. However, even then, the Novierians would die of sickness, or of natural causes. It was then that Migaitt gave them strong bodies, to not only repel any sickness that entered their bodies, but to also push themselves to the limits to overcome obstacles, to defeat anything in a fight.
But, the Novierians lacked knowledge, and it was so that Migaitt bless them with knowledge of their world, and how to live. They lacked a way to gather resources, to overcome the dangers of their planet, and Migaitt gave them ESP abilities along with their telepathy. They lacked a way of living, a culture, a symbol. And so, Migaitt then flew to the heavens, and giving himself to be the ultimate sacrifice, and transforming into a massive Black Dwarf, a super dense sphere of various metals, and in turn, connected each and every Novierian Psychologically to it, so that they may build from Migaitt's bounty, and build they did.

For a long time, this was the religion among the Novierians, that a God known as Migaitt lived on their planet and gave them everything they ever needed, and once done, became the very symbol for the race. It comforted a lot of Novierians, knowing that their god was always above them, watching from afar it's children flourish and bloom. It was this story that the Novierians once felt that their ESP was a gift, and would not use it aside from talking to other Novierians or within situations where it was rather needed.

However, eventually, a way of thinking that rather wanted to debunk religious thinking came into view, and told a very different story of the Novierian origin.

Many Novierians began to imagine that they came from the collective consciousness of the planet, of every life form  there, and Migaitt, which just so happened to be nearby, gave off enough 'cosmic energy' for this consciousness to actually take form. And thus, the Novierians were born. Emerged from the power of Migaitt, they had their ESP from the very start thanks to the Black Dwarf, and already were connected to the sphere of metal, not only mentally, but spiritually as well, since the thing kinda did create them and all. In a way, this theory is not too different from the first one, as it was Migaitt that created them, but in a sense, completely different, as in the previous theory, an actual God known as Migaitt created them, while in this one, Migaitt just so happened to be there for their creation to take place. And, surprisingly, it explains so very little in comparison to the religious theory when in regards that this theory was supposed to explain everything without heavy religious undertones. But, nonetheless, the Novierian populace bought it, and probably for good reason: when this theory came into view, ESP was no longer viewed as a gift, but rather as a tool, as a part of who they were.

And then began Novierian expansion of not only ideas, but of abilities. It didn't take long for them to completely inhabit their planet with their abilities that they once thought of as gifts. But one thing remained in each of their minds, no matter if they were religious or not...
Migaitt was like the mother to them all. God or no, it had a hand in creating them. Whether a god-like consciousness existed within it was irrelevant.

The Novierians also got their nickname as 'The race with no afterlife' as well from these theories, but that is saved for another time, as the creation of Novierians actually ties into the Embodiment of Heat (Not the current one, but probably the last one or the one before the last one.)

Let's delve into a tad bit of their culture.

The first look many races had at the Novierians was probably a look that generated the first impression that they were probably a bunch of savages. As far as they saw, they were constantly fighting one another, for gods sakes! Even in celebrations, parades... they seemed to always fight one another.

But, in reality, they fight because it's one of the few ways they can truly understand one another. The Novierians often sparred, not just for sport, but to feel one anothers soul blaze as their fists connected, and wash away insecurities, doubts, fears... The Novierians were a mental race, they could easily pick up on the emotions of one another, so they often treated each other like family, despite that most of them were complete strangers to one another. But, through sparring, they could go past the mental, go past the projections and telepathy, and feel the very spirit.

This connection between the entire race cannot be replicated through any other race. If there was a race that truly felt like one massive family, taking up the entire planet, it was the Novierians.

When the Novierians were first found by alien races, the first action of these aliens was to take them over. Immediately with no remorse or thought of consequence. The Novierians nearly died out, but through their bonds with one another, and their ties that not only reach socially, but spiritually, they overpowered their invaders, and destroyed them all. Upon their destruction, signaled more alien life forms and factions, constantly seeking them out and bombarding them with constant invasions with absolutely no end in sight.
Each and every time, they bordered on extinction, but the Novierians fought back with a surging counterattack every time. And it was after all these wars that the Novierians turned to be heavily racist. Every race they encountered that was not theirs had only came for their destruction, for their planet, and for their beloved Dwarf Star, Migaitt.

Through this, you can probably see why I was rather unhappy with the end of Novier and Migaitt. Those Novierians would have fought to the very death with no surrender whatsoever.
