And can I say something, what Lyoko is saying honestly has nothing to do with what you guys are talking about. You're saying to respect everyone, and Lyoko's saying make sure you respect females. So in some ways you are all arguing for exactly the same cause.

Respect can mean many things, what it means to me is to be as honest as possible about what you believe and what you think to others. If something as simple as a white lie to prevent someone from being upset in my mind would be disrespect. Additionally, it is disrespectful to take things like emotions, title, past, age, gender, ethnicity, position, or any other factor except how they have proven to be as person in your own experience with them.

I understand Lyoko's point. However I will make sure to respect everyone, gender and age notwithstanding as a factor at all.

Eh, similar, but not the same cause. For example, if I have reason to punch someone, I'm not holding back just because they're a girl. Conversely if I have reason to respect someone, their gender doesn't factor into how much I do. You and L-Rage are going for Chivalry, Nik, we're going for No Special Treatment. We get your point, we just don't agree with it.

And L-Rage, just saying, but just because its a social standard doesn't make it right. Technically speaking, another social standard not too long ago was the the whole 'Women should stay in the kitchen, jobs are for men' one, which thankfully was made essentially illegal and phased out of our culture. Just my two cents on that matter, I suppose.

Besides padding the egos of those who would like to feel at a higher moral standard for treating the opposite sex a certain way and those who take advantage of said social standard.

There is no purpose nor reason for it to exist. It is obsolete, its just an artifact group behavior that will take another generation or five to die out.

Again, not his point. He was saying give everyone respect. If the way you normally act is by being a jerk, don't be a jerk. He was also saying that there is no excuse for acting like a jerk to a lady for the sake of acting like a jerk to a lady. Sure you should treat people the a certain way based on what you think of them, but honestly, what little can you think upon first meet? Little to nothing. So why be a jerk? And if you must be rude, don't be rude to the lady.
