First Debate

A small electronic message was sent to all the would be senators. It was the standard Z-Mail, to be opened at their leisure. Once opened, a small blue hologram of a plump, greasy haired man in the uniform of the Senatorial Race Commissions would appear.

He smiled thinly and proceeded to speak.
"My dear senatorial elects, it would be an honour for all of the Empire for you to participate in the first official debates for the race on Tefillin, in the Capitol next to the ruins of the Heart of the Council. Due to recent events, the presence of the Empire's foremost political minds soothing the public would be greatly recieved. Attatched are the time, date and coordinates as well as your hotel room number should you need it. Thank you and have a nice day."

When the night of the debate came, Yairhoff Hayden's limousine pulled up to the sight of the debate -- the Grand Theater next to the Heart of the Council memorial site. He sat, silently waiting, knowing it would soon be time for him to take the stage and answer some quite difficult questions... He was ready for this. He knew he was. He'd prepared.

He pulled out his GalaxyTABLET from Galactic, Inc. and pulled up the video chatting application. Looking at the online list, he saw that his wife was online, and he tapped her name on his tablet. A familiar loading screen came up before the face of a black haired woman appeared on the screen, a smile on her face as her green eyes peered up at his.

"Hey, honey," she greeted him lovingly, "Are you at the theater?"

"Yeah," Yairhoff replied, "Just wanted to see your face before I go in."

"Aww," she replied, "You'll do great, hun. Michelle and I are going to be watching on TV... Michelle! Say hi to daddy!"

A small toddler appeared on the screen, next to her mother, and glared up at Yairhoff, a smile on her face. "Heyyy Daddy! When are you coming home?"

"Soon, baby girl. Soon."

It was time. Yairhoff could do this. He stepped out of the limousine, and into the lime light...

Outside, they would find riots, chaos, and civilians in a frenzy. PDF Marines, and local authorities were trying to subdue them the best they could, but much still ensued. However, they were in a more secure district in the Capital city, so much of the order had been restored, largely due to the high presence of the Zarethian Hand.

The Zarethian announcer, a portly man with green hair walked up onto the stage. "Welcome, zadies and gentlezem, to the first senatorial debate for 4822!" There was much applause, and the man smiled, displaying his too-perfect-to-be-natural teeth and calmed them all with a wave of his hand. "Now, we've got a few very important speakers today. The first, debate is between Mr. Yairhoff Hayden and Senator Zaigen Yevit." He motioned for the two to walk up the stairs to their respective podiums.

Smiling, Yairhoff walked through the crowd, the smiling people, the cheering for both sides. He had seen this game played many times as Eric Mann's puppet, and he knew that wouldn't earn him any bonus points. If anything, it seemed the people thought less of him because of it. His public opinion ratings weren't high right now. So, he'd just have to show the people what he was all about. It was time to debate.

Waving to the people as he took the left staircase onto the stage, he walked across smoothly, a smile on his face as he lowered his hand and took his place at his podium, smiling and watching as his opponent made his entrance.

Zaigen walked calmly to his podium, keeping a serious face, but still giving the crowds a hint of smile to greet them with. He did nothing to really draw attention to himself as he did this.

"I'd simply like to say," Yairhoff replied, a smile on his face as he stared at the crowd, and then glanced directly into the cameras, "That if elected, I will do my duty to best represent the people. I've seen both sides of the spectrum. I was in the government for years, and I saw the corruption and greed. But I've also been a civilian. I understand how to deal with politicians in the capital, and if elected, I will serve the people. Thank you."

Zaigen waited for the applause to end, then leaned up to the microphone. "Uhm, Hello. My name is Zaigen Yevitt, as many of you may know. And I am one of the few still alive and well who witnessed our home destroyed by Lorcar years ago. I was also one of the few who was willing to attack certain corruptions that plagued our society. When I was elected into office for my first term eight years ago the lower class was something no one talked about. When I was elected programs like welfare were a trap. You see, to qualify for such programs you were required to have no annual income. If you were to take to welfare you were to give up on life as you knew it and become dependent on the weak system in place. I pushed for a change, and now that problem has been fixed. Now your qualification does not go away with a single paycheck, and in fact to maintain welfare you are required to be to some degree active; to prove that you are trying to make a living. Giving up with welfare has been made impossible, and now employment has shot up 31%! Now I'll admit my strong voice has made some trouble at times, but I can promise you two things: my voice will always be used to be to the benefit of the middle and quickly shrinking lower class, and that it will be a voice that will always be heard. Thank you."

Zaigen stepped back from his podium and looked at his small note-card with only a few points on. He had seriously gone overboard on his introduction. He had a tendency to talk much more than planned when he was worked up and excited. Many people had told him to put a lid on it, and many told him that his honesty and passion was what they adored so much about him.

"What are your opinions on the recent catastrophic events and how do you plan on readying the government for these possibilities in the future?"
