Relorian Drones and Carriers
« on: March 16, 2010, 11:56:11 PM »
'Small' class drones
Borialis Drone: The size of a shooter marble(roughly a quarter inch larger diameter than an average pinball,) the marble has a specialized generator that creates a field similar to a magnetic field, attracting nearby shields. Since, obviously, the marble's field won't be strong enough to pull the shield from a ship, it will pull the marble to the shield, causing it to 'stick.' Should the enemy ship's shields be destroyed, malfunctioning, or otherwise nonexistent, the generator will switch to a standard electromagnetic field, causing it to stick to the enemy's hull instead. Once attached to an enemy, the drone will explode using a volatile . There are hardware and software fail-saves added to ensure that the drone does not attach to a Relorian shield or hull.

Herion drone: Slightly larger than a Borialis, Herion drones are fitted with sophisticated cloaking technology, as well as powerful (for its size) scanners and a single long-range laser requiring a full post to charge, as it does not store energy for the weapon on the drone. Has only basic environmental shielding.

'Medium' class drones
Gretan drone: Meant for maintenance purposes, the Gretan is a hardy drone with a modular structure. Used in everything from construction to maintenance, it's a common sight on most capital ships. Roughly the size of a small breed dog, they are most often fitted with screwdrivers and torque wrenches of various sizes, as well as a small flight pack. The tips of the feet have emitters similar to the Borialis' EM generator, allowing it to walk along walls and ceilings, as well as ship exteriors, without complications. The two protrusions on the back end allow it to fly for short distances.

Corsair drone: About the size of a motorcycle, the Corsair drones are unmanned fighters utilizing a complex wireless ad hoc network to transmit battlefield observations between Corsairs, effectively creating a sort of hive mind. The more active Corsairs in the area, the more observations can be shared, and the more weaknesses they can discover and exploit. They are equipped with two laser auto-cannons, one to either side of the optics hub. The cannons can combine their shots to form a single explosive shot. Lightly armored and shielded, but very quick and agile.

Carriers
Gorens carrier: With a midsection roughly equivalent to the average household oven, the Gorens is a terrestrial, quadruped drone carrier capable of fitting over a hundred Borialis or Herion drones, or any combination of the two. Top land speed is 50 mph, top jump height 12 feet. Drones are carried just underneath the optics hub. The carrier has read-only access to Corsair ad-hoc networking and standard Relorian comm channels. Lightly armored but heavily shielded, the Gorens is a tough nut to crack. It is programmed to expel all drones if immobilized or just before destruction, promptly followed by a self destruction command.

Torrae carrier: Roughly the size of Texas, the Torrae is a capital ship sized carrier meant for speedy deployment of Corsair flights. With five separate Corsair bays and one large bay for 'Small' class drones, the Torrae holds the bombardment and engagement capabilities of many multi-role super capital ships. Its shields are among the best Reloria has to offer, and it is equipped with two Moa Intellimissile launchers.

Solsan carrier: Large enough to eclipse the United States mainland, the Solsan carrier is a veritable fortress. With a full ten Corsair bays, capable of holding several hundred Corsairs each, and seven 'Small' drone bays, a single Solsan is capable of fighting off two to three capital ships alone. In the center of the ship is a powerful supercomputer that is tied directly, and only, into the Corsair's ad-hoc network, effectively creating a sort of mother brain for the Corsair hive network. This allows for the processing of battlefield observations to occur at a far higher rate, increasing over and over with more Solsan carriers that are connected to the Hive. With particularly thick and durable plating, coupled with a powerful shield generator, a large amount of damage can be taken while still operating at full capacity. Equipped with manually-fired rotary laser cannons, Moa Intellimissile launchers, and a single Pyroboli bomb system.
Seeing the world through a child's eyes is truly a unique experience. It helps you to retrieve that sense of awe, magic and wonder that you lost as you lost your innocence. Tell me, when was the last time that you thought of those childhood dreams? You know, the ones that you used to spend all your time wondering and fantasizing about? Have you forgotten them so easily? Have you forgotten what it felt like to see something for the first time, to see the magic in the mundane? Everyone says you should take the time to 'Stop and smell the roses'. But you should also take the time to look for the fairies, embrace the wind and enjoy the rain. Just once today, stop for a moment and look into that little piece of nature you pass everyday. Perhaps you may see something you did not notice before.
