Searching For A Spellbook
« on: June 23, 2012, 04:34:53 PM »
A NET window appeared in the city streets as K2323 appeared, a look of frustration on his face. He was searching for a spell book which he had given to the last incantation of the XANAClones. He had heard from his son, leader of the K Empire and allies to the Zarethians, that this world had belonged to a remnant of the Old K Empire at one time, and he could only hope it was here... Somewhere.

And so, he started walking..

He found himself in the outskirts of a small town full of square, granite buildings covered in multicolored, ornamental tapestries. These had many different symbols on them and were what marked the houses of the original inhabitants. The streets were full of people, a doomsday prohphet with violently pink hair and eyes, shouting out to a bored looking crowd in front of him, dozens of merchant stalls clamouring for the attentions of the crowd. So many different smells wafted through the air that they mixed together into one, unidentifiable concoction.

K2323 walked through the town, marking it's striking appearance to Japaen architecture. He had no doubt that the people who had originally lived here, rather they were still here or not, had once been his people. They had once, just a few decades ago, called him emperor. But he wasn't here for them. They had seemingly found a new home with the Zarethians. He was here for something else... Something else which he hoped had been brought here with these people.

As he shifted through the crowds of people, his eyes set on the doomsday prophet, who he made his way over to, seemingly the only one paying much attention to her. He crouched on one knee and reached for her hand, to kiss it, before asking, "Do you know who I am?"

She turned her eyes towards him, wild, unstable eyes. Her hand trembled in K2323's grasp she wimpered as her eyes met his. "Y-you! I know you. You... you are the end! The Bringer of the End Times!" She said, ending up screaming out to the crowd. "Beware of he who seeks the magic, for it is all but lost!"
"Shes obviously mad." Muttered some of the crowd.
"Shes said that five times already." Said an elderly lady dismissively as she made her way past.

"The Bringer Of the End Times," K2323 repeated, "He who seeks... magic... it is all but lost. Thank you."

And with that, he set off in another direction, looking for any kind of Archive or Library on the planet. That's when it occurred to him... This planet was a replica of Japae, right? So... Where would the former rulers of this planet had kept top secret, magical books? The K Archive. In the original Japae, the K Archive had been where K2323 and his successors had kept books of magical importance, for the eyes of top officials only.. So, he just had to find this planet's version of the K Archive.

But that would be all the way in the capital, which he obviously was not in.

Opening a NET window, K2323 left that town and entered into the Capital. If the Zarethians had the same system K2323 had adapted when he ruled Japae, then the capital would surround the Central City area, the government capital, where access would likely be restricted. K2323 made his way towards the gates of the Central City, the center of the capital, hoping maybe it was now open to the public...

The Central City, the capitol, built with a mixture of prefabricated buildings and the Japae style granite, was an enormous city, many miles in diameter. K2323 approached the door and the guards eyed him through their ZPA helmets. One held up his smoothly armoured hand, "Halt, visitor. The city is under lockdown as we are containing the riots. Please show identification."

There was indeed some smoke that was rising from over the gate.

"Hm," K2323 replied, digging through the pockets of his robes, the same robes he'd been wearing earlier today at the Excel Tournament. He found his wallet, pulling it out, and flipping through the many cards he hadn't used in some time, finding his State ID with the Zarethian Empire, showing his status as a foreign leader. "Kaleb James Tyris I."

The man's mask disguised his surprise. "S-sir!" he managed a salute, followed by his opposite doing the same. "Its hardly safe for you here, sir. The riots are dangerous... But we can fly in a hovercraft for your use, if you'd like."

"I need access to an area which I suspect is restricted," K2323 replied, "If you need to clear it with your authorities, I would request that you do so. I need entrance to the Archives Building... The one under the Palace. The restricted one. I know, I'm asking a lot, but this is important."

The two guards glanced at one another and exchanged a silent conversation via thought to text implants in the suits, shifting their body weight almost imperceptibly.

After a brief moment, the guard to the right nodded and pressed his hand to the comm channel link on the exterior of his helmet.
"A hovercar is on its way to pick you up, sir." He said, and indeed, a bright red luxury hovercar came into view seconds later. The grass flowed as the anti-grav repulsors steadied the vehicle a foot and a half off the ground. The door opened up.

"Thank you so much for your help, gentlemen," K2323 replied, bowing slightly to the two, as per Zarethian custom (amirite?), before turning to the hovercar and walking over to it, pulling himself inside. He looked up at the driver (unless it's automated) and smiled, bowing his head slightly, while greeting him with a, "Thank you so much, sir."

They returned the bow, slightly surprised that a high dignitary would give them the honor.
The driver nodded to him, and closed the door with a flick of a switch. K2323 would find that he was not alone in the backseat, a suited Zarethian with a hard edged face and grey hair nodded to him and extended his hand. "I am Captian Hisk Veron, second in command of the city defense forces. What can we do for you?"

K2323 nodded, shaking the man's hand in turn. "I'm looking for an old spellbook that I hope may have been brought here by the planet's original government. It would have been placed in top-access archives."

"You heard the man, to Central Processing." He told the driver, who promptly brought the vehicle up, soaring above the clouds and giving both the passengers a sense of vertigo. The man in the suit ignored it. "Is there any particular reason you need this book, Mr. Tyris?"

Having plenty of experience flying via magic, K2323 was fine as the transport took flight, though he did keep his eyes trained on the horizon of the sky. Smiling at the question the man in the suit asked, K2323 kindly replied, "I took it... Years ago... From a very powerful... Individual. Now, I'm afraid I need it as a bargaining chip. For both myself and my sister."

The man took a moment to take all of this in, his face pensive. "I suppose whatever spellbook this is, the Zarethian government cannot expect to get it back afterwards?" He asked.

"You probably wouldn't want it back," K2323 replied, "It's sort of... Stolen property... From somebody you don't want to steal from. Let's just leave it at that, shall we? In any case, I can assure you that I will pay you well for it."

The man nodded astutely, he had enough experience with powerful and dangerous individuals to know that its a good idea not to ask too many questions about their goings on. As the vehicle turned into a near vertical dive towards the surface, he sighed and tried to keep his stomach down. Obviously the pilot was having too much fun screwing with him.
As the large, black obelisk of a building entered the side viewscreens, the man sighed with relief. Not much trouble on their way there.
"Thats what was built over your archives." He said, pointing it out. "We're almost the-" as if on cue, the shuttle violently convulsed and the sound of creaking metal echoed in the small compartment. The man was slammed back against his seat and knocked his head against the armour plated window and he saw stars. Abruptly, they were thrown into another dive and he was thrown into his seat belt.
With a bone crunching lurch, they came to a halt.

"I see," K2323 replied, unbuckling his seat belt, "Nice structure. I hope you take no offense when I say I prefer the K Empire architecture myself, though. Simply because it's home. I'm sure I'd feel different in your shoes."

The man coughed slightly. "Yes, well, I believe it was here before we arrived." He said, struggling but finally escaping from the tangled safety belt that kept him trapped in his seat.
He looked up at the enormous black tower in front of them. "Well, at the very least we crashed near the entrance." He said, jogging up to a computer screen and typing in a password. Slowly, silently, the smooth black surface of the obelisk disapeared up and revealed a hallway.
"This way, sir."

"Thank you very much," K2323 replied, following the man down the hall. He was transfixed by the magnificent surroundings which he had just entered, knowing full well that he, indirectly, was responsible for this. Of course, he missed Japae very much. K City was, in design, similar to the place he'd known as home, but... It wasn't the same. This place, though, reminded him so much of Japae.

"Now, there are numerous spellbooks and other such artifacts in these, uh, sanctums. I hope you know what you're looking for." The man said, casting a sideways glance at the sage before leading him further in.

"Quite so, my friend. The book I seek will be one that I can find. You see, this book... Well.. It's quite indistinguishable. Thank you, my good sir. I can see to it from here," he told the man as they arrived at the Archives door.
