The First Shots Are Fired
« on: September 09, 2012, 01:06:40 AM »
The warriors who were, at that precise moment, attacking Ventus Tempestus, had claimed to be working against Lucien Dolos, trying to find the weaponry on the station that Lucien wanted only to crush him. Right? But the Anrufe didn't care about Lucien Dolos (though the DAIS, Anrufe paramilitary, probably did). They did care about the fact that someone had just broken into their station.

Appearing while the elites were still away and, by pure coincidence, while Miamore was away with Jay, a huge titan seemingly appeared at the edge of the solar system... Waiting... Watching. The Anrufe were here. And they were ready to wipe these guys out. Whoever they were.

Just because the Celestians and Miamore were away did not mean that the Arcanis system was undefended, far from it. Above the Capital Planet there was a massive fleet, 30 large vessels, two much larger than all the others. The Space Stations looked slightly more worrisome however and they had picked up on the massive ship in the system and it was in perfect position.

<<<Connect Power Grids, Activate Safety Precautions>>> The station AIs contacted one another and the large towers situated at certain areas around the system, the stations were in the process of being updated but were still fully functional and when contacted they sent their responses and affirmatives before activating. When they activated a system wide blanket of AP, AT, AM and Denial Fields went up, sweeping over the entire system. The Vionix however did not know exactly what the Denial Fields would do to the Titan, because it was powered by magic as soon as it tried to do anything, the magic would rebel against the entire ship and start to attack its core, forcing it to either shut the entire reactor or switch to other means of power.

As this was happening, the ships powered up all weapons and Rampart and Shimmering Dawn joined the power network and the Titan shunted a large chunk of power to its Displacer Barriers, jump starting them to help with the Displacer Burst and they even powered up the Rampages and Rift Cannon, all in preparation of a full assault.

As soon as the AM field rose, the ship disappeared. Of course; it hadn't really been there to begin with. It had been an illusion. The fact that the Vionnix had raised both an AM field and a Denial Field had, of course, worked against them as well. How could the magic attack itself if it couldn't be allowed to work?

Now prepared for a full assault, the first of many entered the battlefield. Leading the charge was a modest fleet of about 4,000 fighters. The real ships would come later; this was just the start. Among the fighters were Retire Type Fighters and the infamous remote-piloted Raven fighters. These fighters drifted, thrusting lightly at the edge of the solar system, some distance away from the capital planet.

The order had been given. As these ships powered their weapons up, a team of about five Raven fighters branched off for the rest and made their way towards the system's star.

A transmission was sent to the planet from one of the fighters in formation at the edge of the system:

Code: [Select]
Surrender now or be destroyed. The choice is yours.

The reason for the AM and Denial Fields however was that if the enemy did NOT have AAM fields then they would be able to drop the Denial Fields after a while but if they did, the Denial Fields would still stop them, it was a dual layered defense.

The Vionix were cautious beings however and the sight of even just a small amount of fighters flying towards the sun was a bad thing to them and the entire fighter screen of the Arcanis system went up. From the Titan, Rampart, Aegis Defense Stations and Katanas, over 40,000 fighters were launched and shot towards the enemy fleet. A group of 2,000 fighters broke off the main group and shot towards the tiny group going towards the star, these fighters were smaller than most of the others though, they were Shurikens, small and agile but still packing a hefty punch they rocketed towards the group of raven fighters and opened fire. Their weapons were a mix of Ion and Laser weaponry which meant that they would tear through any shielding and inflict heavy melts and burns onto the armour of the foe that was being fired at.

The Main group however, now numbering 39,000 Strike Craft, descended upon the huge amount of enemy fighters and started to fire. In that group there were a mix of Sword, Halberd and Shuriken class fighters. The Shuriken class fighters, numbering around 15,000, were streaking ahead of the rest and sent out their twin tone weapon beams to tear through the enemy shielding. Following behind them were the Sword Class which unleashed tirades of laser fire that would start to burn through the armour before the last group hit, the Halberd Classes. These Heavy fighters not only launched forth laser shots like the Sword classes but also sent out HE warheads at a rapid rate from the Thresher Cannons mounted upon their wings.

OOC: How did the Anrufe find this system? I thought you had to give a reason for that and there should've been no way that they did it.

OOC: Cause I'm a clever son of a bitch. :)

The Anrufe were quite clever. Their Raven fighters, who were auto-piloted, took the damage that the enemy sent at them. Considering among the fighter fleet their were 3,400, it was... An acceptable loss. They would need to double up on slave labor later, but for now, the Ravens had served their purpose: Decoys.

As the Ravens fought the enemy, digging into their hulls, the Ravens were of course, quickly wiped out, as was the small group headed towards the sun. The Retire Type fighters flew outward while the 39,000 tore into the 3,400 Ravens. The Retire Type fighters, meanwhile, launched Formation Breaking Shields at the enemy to not only separate them from one another, but to trap them. They were sure to close the shield in tight enough so the enemy fighters couldn't FTL away -- that was based on the sole assumption that, like the Anrufe, the Vionnix version of FTL meant creating an event horizon rather than simply jumping away. They had encountered Jump Drive technology only a few times, and if these guys had it, the Anrufe would be impressed.

But seeing as this was all a decoy anyway! Considering the 39,000 were on the edge of the solar system now, and the other 15,000 were near the sun, it was the perfect time for the next wave of the attack to go down. Another FTL window opened in low orbit of the enemy's planet, and from it, 3,000 Corvettes came out. Immediately, they launched heat sinking energy missiles at the planet before once more FTL'ing away. This game was going to be played using geurilla warfare.

In the sun, three automated Raven fighters appeared by FTL. They would almost immediately be incinerated, but it wasn't the fighters that was important. It was what was inside them. The Catalyst Star Bomb (This bomb, upon detonation, releases a catalyst developed by the Japae empire which will gradually kill nuclear fusion within a few hours, effectively killing a star.) that was inside one of the fighters would soon detonate. As the bomb began to get closer to detonation, a strange type of radiation would be emitted from it.

This was war.

OOC: 1/10 posts till Catalyst Star Bomb detonates.

Against the frankly ridiculous amount of fighters, the enemy fleet didn't stand a chance but still a couple hundred of the Vionix fighters were wiped out but they were acceptable losses, this was war after all and all had to be given to ensure survival. The bigger fleet, numbering around 38,000 now dropped back from the last of the enemy fighters as they dropped the formation breakers. Thankfully, having only 400 fighters, it would be impossible to stop almost 100 times their own number and as such the Sword Classes, the most bountiful, shot forwards and intercepted the shields, allowing themselves to be caught and stopped while allowing the rest of the fighter screen to be untouched and still harry the enemy. Unfortunately they did not have Jump Drives but they did have teleportation as the Anrufe would find out.

This teleportation took the form of a single Kunai Class fighter launched from Shimmering Dawn that was to bring the strange object away from the star. The fighter done this by keeping away from all combat and diverting almost all power to shielding, it only needed to survive less than a second after all. After a few seconds, teleport co-ordinates were plotted and the ship vanished, when it reappeared from its jump it tapped the Star Bomb and then jumped again and away from the star, taking the bomb with it and back to its original position. Unfortunately the fighter was damaged by the star's energies but it had moved the bomb thankfully and left the star safe.

Closer to the planet however, the corvettes would not go unmolested, they still had the massive space stations and the Vionix's own fleet which consisted of several thousands of frigates and corvettes. As soon as the Anrufe Corvettes appeared, Riot Lances and cannons from the stations would fire on them, the cannons would miss but the lances would move fast enough to possibly hit the last few leaving the system. The missiles that they fired did not fare all too well either and were quickly shot down by the overlapping fields of fire that blanketed the entire space around Arcanis III.

This was a problem though, the Anrufe were able to field a large number of smaller vessels it would seem but the Vionix had seen neither hide nor hair of their larger ships. <<All vessels, prepare yourself and your drives, we may need rapid responses here>> The Commanders of the Space Stations sent out to the entire system and all the other frigates and such prepared themselves while a large group of corvettes and frigates sat back with their Hyper Drives charged in case that a rapid response was needed anywhere in the system or any breaches needed to be plugged.

The larger vessels of the Vionix fleet held themselves around Arcanis III, Hyper Drives charged, ready to defend the home planet of the Vionix from any intruders, however something dark was running through the Vionix Commander at the moment. The commander in question was Vice Admiral Mirako Okimo, a male Vionix Admiral with a history of violence but good tactical planning and thoughtfulness. What no one suspected though was that Mirako was an avid hater of Lucien, none knew except him but he hated Lucien and instead wanted to help the Anrufe, after all, he thought, why have more of his damned kind running around? And as such, Mirako was waiting until an Anrufe Capital ship appeared and he would send a message, possibly offering an alliance now that he was the highest ranking official around, with the Emperor really only being a figurehead rather than anything actually important.

Blame appeared in the battle space with his Steward Kalos and a couple thousand Disciples and Precious. He telepathed to the Shimmering Dawn immediately.

Of course, the Anrufe weren't going to let the remainder of the fighters who hadn't been caught in the Formation Breaking Shields simply FTL to the planet to join the fight there. No, that would defeat the entire purpose of having a fleet of fighters on the edge of the solar system. With the Sword Classes held up, they had to deal with the rest of the fighters at the edge of the system. So, what did they bring out next?

They started charging their Decay Fields, of course.

Seeing as the Catalyst Star Bomb was inside the Raven fighter (OOC: See my last post), it wouldn't be as easy as the Kunai class fighter anticipated to tag the star bomb and take it away. The Carvenplaren had melted, sure, but the CutFiber inside the fighter had HARDENED from the heat, creating a shell around it. Of course, with this much heat, it wouldn't be hard to break through, but the fact remained that a large, hard shell the size of a Raven fighter, coated with melted metal, surrounded the bomb, and it was unlikely that the Kunai fighter would be able to jump an ENTIRE enemy fighter with it in such a short time in this situation.

Of course, now it knew what was around the bomb, and the Vionnix could easily try the same tactic but send something better prepared into the sun to get the job done. Naturally, though, the Anrufe was well prepared for that possibility. There were more nasty surprises surrounding the bomb waiting for the Vionnix. Getting the bomb out of the sun would be quite the puzzle.

Many of the Corvettes were damaged before they could jump away. A total of four were so damaged that their hyperspace window had opened when their FTL drives failed from the damage of the massive amounts of fire. These corvettes now drifted through space, dead, and easy targets for the picking. However; the hyperspace windows that had opened before they could hyperspace away were still there, and radiation was seeping out of them, threatening not only the Anrufe ships but the nearby stations as well.

Shooting down Energy Missiles wouldn't be as easy as the Vionnix had hoped. Normal projectiles would fail to do the trick considering, well, the energy missiles were made of energy. Solid mass just passed right through them. Many of them bombarded into the planet, but would fail to cause much damage, lucky for the Vionnix, seeing as they had been hastily fired with little time for targeting. In fact, many missed the planet all together, flying into the vacuum of space.

Lucky for him, in another part of the system, away from all the fighting, a Super Capital DID appear, well defended and ready to fight. It started to charge up Time Tower Sun, one of the Anrufe's more powerful weapons. It would only be a matter of time before the fun really got started. The first shots had been fired. The first battle was being fought.

Now this would be a problem for the slower Halberd Class Heavy Fighters that were part of the fleet but the Shuriken Class Interceptors would be long gone before the Decay Fields were half charged. The Interceptors turned tail and set their thrusters to full, rocketing away at a frankly ridiculous speed back to their fleet and the Halberds turned and shot away as well, as fast as they could but there was no way that they could match the sheer speed of the smaller fighters.

Getting the bomb out of the sun would be quite the puzzle.

This would prove quite a conundrum but the Vionix had a rather ridiculous solution to the plan, one which the Anrufe probably weren't expecting. One of the Scythe Class Battleships on the Vionix side, moved out of position and activated its Hyper Drive, setting its course into the sun. When the second Hyper Drive Gate opened, it would block the sun's rays against the ship as it moved through and the Displacer Barrier would block all the rest of the energy that was clashing against it. The Scythe then moved right next to the fighter and then swallowed it in one of its hangar bays, despite it not being able to carry fighters, shuttles and such still had to land.

After it had done this, it opened a second Hyper Drive Gate and fired through it, bringing a lot of radiation from the sun along with it, where the ship was going however would be found out soon.

In fact, many missed the planet all together, flying into the vacuum of space.

The Captains aboard the Stations allowed themselves small smiles at the fact they had hit such rapid targets but they didn't slack off, not for a second as more of those corvettes could show up at any point and even now, they were running algorithms to check for any Hyper Drive Windows opening and presetting aiming routines to target them and tear the Corvettes apart as soon as they came out of the portals. The radiation wasn't even a problem either as the radiation was just another type of Energy and the Stations all had Displacer Barriers around them, which would absorb the energy from the Windows with ease, leaving the stations unharmed.

And this was where the Scythe Class from earlier appeared, it opened a Hyper Drive Gate directly in front of the enemy Super Capital and came barreling through, causing the Anrufe ship to be blasted with Solar Radiation before the Scythe slashed straight down its side and fired a full broadside at the enemy at very close range. Each of the shells was about the size of a corvette and packed a hell of a punch should they hit. If they did hit, large explosions would blossom from the HE cores in every single one of the shells.

The Anrufe fighters on the edge of the solar system started moving towards the ship when the hyperspace window opened near it, unleashing the massive attack that almost instantly drained shield powers. The Anrufe had an important choice to make. Stay, and fight, or leave?

...With the report that Citadel had been destroyed, and that Walape was under attack, they chose the latter.

The fighters warped away first, diverting all their power to Jump Drives so they could get away.

A short transmission burst was sent to the planet from the Anrufe ship:

Code: [Select]
We'll see you soon.
With that, the ship was gone.
