"Gamma Squad, sound off." The Captain whispered into his throat mike, his boots crunching quietly on the rubble underfoot as he walked through the ruined city. His rifle, an REC7, was pulled snugly into his shoulder, the scope linked directly to a targeting array on his right eye.
"Gamma 2 here, over." The sniper called back over the intercom from his vantage point at the top of a nearby, and one of the only standing, high-rise buildings.
"Gamma 3, all clear, over." The second sniper called back, the slight arrogant tone in his voice evident as always.
"Gamma 4, I'm reading you, boss." The first of the other two riflemen called back, from the tactical readout, the Captain knew he was off to the side about ten meters, behind a building.
"Gamma 5, hearing you loud and cl-" The noise was cut off by a loud report from some kind of massive rifle.
"DAMN IT! GAMMA 3 IS DOWN!" There came the wail from Gamma 2 over the radio and the sound of distant cracks as he tried to snipe the attacker.
"EVERYONE, INTO COVER!" The Captain bellowed into the mic as Gamma squad dove into the cover of surrounding buildings. "Gamma 2, Gamma 2, cease fire." He whispered but still the sounds of the sniper's rifle were heard, the Captain knew that 2 and 3 were lovers but he thought that he'd be able to count on the Sniper to get one.
Sure enough, another boom from the foe's rifle and the sounds of 2?s weapon were shut off abruptly.
"Fucking hell, right troops, keep it together, we can take this sniper." The Captain whispered back into the microphone and got two grunts of acknowledgement from his fellow squad-mates.
Easing out of cover, the commander kept himself low to the ground, darting betwixt ruined wall and bits of rubble to keep out of immediate sight. Snipers were a big deal for riflemen and he was one, so he kept himself down, no need to poke his head up and get it blown off.
"Any of you guys have a clue where the shots came from?" He whispered, looking around to his remaining two soldiers, creeping up behind him who just gave him headshakes. "We're gonna have to find out." He growled and dropped to his stomach, creeping up to the edge of the wall he was behind and peeking out. All he could see before him were ruins, crumbling walls, flaking buildings and knocked over housing.
"I think I saw something Captain."  Gamma 4 mumbled and peeked up over the edge just in time for 5 to grab him and pull him down as a round spanked off the wall, sending shards flying everywhere. Unfortunately, 4 took shards in the eye, a spurt of blood later and he was screaming on the ground, clutching at his slashed up face and rolling around.
"Damn it! 5, look after him, I'm moving forwards." The Captain cried out and, before the other two could react, ran forwards and dove into cover as a series of rounds chipped the ground behind him.
"Sir, take this, he won't need it." 5 called out from behind him and tossed a pack over to the Captain, it took a hit in mid-air but still landed down by 1's feet. He opened it and smiled, inside was all of 4's ammo, a pair of combat knives, three Mk2 Fragmentation grenades and two 'Party Gas' Smoke Grenades. "Rock and Roll, 1" 5 called over and the Captain nodded.
Turning around so his chest was against the wall, 1 took out one of the smoke grenades and pulled the pin, he then threw it over the top and popped the spoon. The pin took a shot as the grenade went arcing over and landed on the ground, bursting into a bright cloud of blue-ish smoke and 1 ran forwards. He held his breath through the smoke as he knew that the stench was awful and then burst out the back, rolling into cover as a sniper shot clipped the heel of his boot, almost tearing it off.
"Sir, I know where the sniper is, first building in front of you, fourth fl-" 5 was cut off by another sniper report, silencing him forever.
"Only 4 left and he's going to bleed out." 1 muttered to himself as he peeked ever so slightly around the edge, looking at the building before him. The building in question was an apartment block, many half-broken balconies and smashed windows over all. "I need to end this quick."
Gamma 1 checked to make sure everything was secure, the knives in his boots, the grenades on his belt and the rifle lashed across his chest, before he decided to move. Now, popping the pin on his last smoke grenade he rolled it around the edge of his cover, allowing it to take a shot and detonate before he sprinted through it.
Coming out of the blue haze on the other side, 1 realised he still had a good twenty meter dash to get to the building. As soon as he realised this he jinked, rolling and darting left and right in a zig-zag fashion as sniper rounds ricocheted around his ankles, sending stone shards flying everywhere. After a hectic dash, Gamma 1 rolled into the building and stopped, breathing quick and shallow as he sat at the bottom of a tall stairwell. "What had 5 said? Fourth Floor?" 1 thought unto himself and got to his feet, taking a final deep breath before unclipping his REC7 assault rifle and shouldering it.
"2nd floor..." Gamma 1 whispered as he passed the mark, still walking upwards, the gentle clanging of his boots hitting the metal stairs ringing upwards into the gloom from above.
"3rd floor..." He said and was about to move up further when he heard a strange noise, almost like a rifle bolt being drawn back. "OH SHIT!" He cried and dove forwards in time for the step behind him to be shattered by a rifle round. Gamma 1 looked upwards in time to see the flash of a white cloak and white hair before the person was gone. "The hell?" He muttered and continued walking upwards.
Once the Captain had arrived at the fourth floor he looked around, the barrel of his rifle scanning with him before he alighted on a doorway left slightly ajar, as though beckoning him forwards. Gamma 1 got a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach and he nudged the door open with his rifle barrel just in time for a hole to be shot in it by the rifle from before. The next noise he heard caused him to smile though, the sound of a bolt clacking open, empty. "Hell yeah." He murmured and then darted in the room.
Instantly his experienced eyes took in the burned out furniture and broken door leading out to the veranda. They also took in the female standing in the middle of the room, trying to reload a massive rifle. Wasting no time, 1 brought his REC7 up and fired on the girl. It was rather unsettling for the soldier to be firing on a female but she'd taken down three, possibly four of his squad mates and that made her lethal.
Unfortunately for Gamma 1 though, the girl was fast and before any of his shots could land home, the girl dove backwards, the 6.68 Armour Piercing Rounds just flying straight through her cloak and bouncing off her rifle as she dropped it in her wake.
With practiced hands, Gamma 1 dropped the magazine and loaded another in before dropping into a crouch and walking around the corner, just in time to see a scythe blade swinging towards his head. Bringing his rifle up, he blocked the blade and rolled backwards, dropping his, now dented, rifle and bringing out the pair of combat knives in his boots. "Come on then, honey." He whispered, sliding one of his blades into a back-grip and the other held forwards.
The Girl wasted no time in darting forwards and it was as she flew through the open room that 1 got a good look at her. She was short and thin, maybe standing only around 5'4" and couldn't have weighed more than 50Kg but the scythe she was swinging was taller than her. Behind her flapped a long white cape, bullet-riddled, and long locks of white hair flying outwards in a fan.
1 barely had time to jump to the side as the girl's scythe swung towards his head. When he looked back though the girl was dragging the massive weapon out of the ground, leaving a huge rent in the floor, and was in the process of swinging it back at him. Gamma dropped under the swing of the blade and stabbed out with his knife, only to have the girl bring her knee up and knock the knife out of his hand, forcing Gamma 1 to roll away once more. "Hey, this is hardly fair, is it?" He said to the girl as he stood up once more.
"Fair, giving you a bigger weapon would hardly make this fair."  She hissed back, her voice quiet and full of venom
This only elicited a laugh from Gamma however. "Oh no, it's unfair for you, girly." He winked to her and nodded towards her feet. She looked down just in time to see the grenade at her feet, set to long fuse.  "Sayonara!" He then jumped backwards, the girl jumping towards him and screaming as the grenade went off.
Gamma 1 awoke again a couple of seconds later and stood up, watching the dust fall off of him in waves as he looked up, noticing he#d fallen through two stories of the building and that the girl was nowhere to be seen. "Heh, looks like kicked it." He muttered and then fell over.
Rolling back to his feet he looked around and saw the girl standing up a good ten feet away but she was missing her scythe. This caused him to look down and he noticed that something was sticking out of his leg. This something happened to be the girl's aforementioned weapon. "God damn it!" He cried and grabbed the scythe before wrenching it out of his leg, followed by a spurt of blood, before tossing it to the side. The weapon itself easily weighed around 60 Kilo, he had no clue how the girl could've swung it around.
"What the fuck are you?" He muttered to her as he drew his last combat knife and readied himself. The adrenaline coursing through his body prevented him from feeling the pain of the wound in his leg but that wouldn't last, he had to finish this soon.
"I am an experiment, and you were the guinea pigs." She giggled, a haunting, high pitched giggle of insanity and started to walk towards him.
"Well, time for the bastards who made you to see that they need to work on a few things. Specifically the outcome of fighting Gamma Squad!" He shouted at her before running forwards and slashing at her. The girl's first move knocked his arm aside and her second hit knocked the breath from him as her fist contacted his stomach. He grunted and rolled around her, wheezing as he slashed at her thigh, just quick enough to score a long cut that started to gently ooze some kind of black gunk.
Getting back to his feet, Gamma 1 knocked aside two of the girl's punches before kneeing her in the stomach, sending her backwards with a quiet "Oof!".
Gamma 1 pressed the advantage however, running forwards and slashing at the girl as she stood back up, only for his knife to be knocked aside again. This time he was prepared for the next punch however and rolled his arm under it, catching and lifting her arm, causing her elbow and shoulder to dislocate. Her fist came back around though and sent him back through the debris with a cracked rib.
Gamma 1 got up again, his breathing laboured as he stared over at the girl that just wouldn't go down. Even now she was back up and walking towards him, although now with one arm hanging limply down by her side. The Captain spun his knife around in his hand and sighed softly. "Right, come on then, let's finish this."
The Girl just nodded and ran at him, her body flipping forwards onto one hand before her foot came down like the hammer of a vengeful god. Gamma nimbly side-hopped it though and elbowed the girl in the stomach, slamming her down onto her back before she grabbed his ankle and pulled him down. 1 rolled away from her foot as it slammed downwards, cracking the floor, and jumped to his feet.
The knife in the Captain's hand revolved around slowly as he waited for the girl to get up and as she did, he spun the blade and threw it, embedding the weapon in the girl's stomach, eliciting a gasp from her. "Got ya." He whispered as she clutched at the weapon.
Gamma walked over to her while she was still scrabbling at the serrated knife and grabbed the weapon, wrenching it out of her with a disgusting burst of black fluid. He then grabbed the girl by her hair and stared into her eyes, devoid of any emotion. "Game over." He said to her and slit her throat before dropping her to the ground with his knife and walking away.
Gamma 4 sat up at the wall, shaking and pale from the loss of blood and with a bandage coating his eye. Some of the blood wasn't even his own and he looked down at the headless corpse of Gamma 5 who'd taken a headshot peeking over the edge. He looked over himself as nothing had happened since the Captain went in apart from an explosion on the fourth floor and quiet rumbling from within. It was then that Gamma 4's good eye caught site of someone, blood-stained, walking from the building towards him. "Fuck, Captain!" He cried and hopped over the edge of the wall, jogging towards the wounded soldier before grabbing him. "Come on, I've got some medical supplies left over and I can treat your wounds. We'll get you back home soon enough." Gamma 1 had barely enough energy left to nod and just leaned on 4 as he was walked away. The Captain just hoped that he'd never meet another adversary like that Girl or that they were deployed into combat. If so, the world was well and truly fucked.
