The Scholar who wanted to be a god.
« on: March 30, 2013, 04:47:42 AM »
The day was bright in the large village known as Dawnbreak. The streets were busy with people going about their duties. These people were the Perfect, and the Belkans; a race made by the Perfect, among others. This village was very peaceful and was home to the equivalent of a modern day college for the seekers of knowledge. Its campus has an intimidating portion of the village.

A Scholar, being identified as one by the crest he wore on his clothing, rushed down the street frantically towards the large gates that stood as the college's entrance. This scholar was non-other than Courtiere Cato. This man was notorious in his pursuit of knowledge. He was a driven individual who wanted nothing more than to know and become even more powerful with the knowledge he had. He envied the Perfect.... The powerful beings that surrounded him and the others in this village and everywhere else in East. The knowledge they possessed... the power they had, he wanted it. He wanted it so badly.

They had the one thing he couldnt figure out with his studies... The power of Creation. The power to create things in complexity. They created the Belkans, and could create much more as he saw. However, they refused to show their creations their secrets... Self-fish in his mind. His logical mind told him that if the Belkans were ever to evolve further, they had to know the secrets of existence.

Courtiere rushed into his office and threw a stack of reading materials down as well as research notes he had gotten, and written down. "There has to be something here.... Something." he said to himself as he sprawled the materials around the floor. Studies of the meta-physics, theoretical plains as he called them that all existence shared. Most thought he was a madman, but he knew that there was a way to figure it out.

He mumbled algorithms to himself, and went over his theories over and over again, adding new things to it constantly. "I've got it!" he shouted and looked around the room. He went over to a shelf and retrieved an urn which housed the remains of a fallen colleague.

"Marconi, your death wasnt in vain, my friend." he said to the urn and dumped its contents out into the floor. Focusing his concentration, Courtiere put his hands together over the remains, and attempted a resurrection spell, something unheard of at the time, and thought to be impossible except by the Perfect. A bright light lit up the room, and blinded Courtiere... He felt himself get blown back to his wall.

"Marconi?" he called out. No answer. "Is that you?" he asked as his vision came into focus once more. He now stood in horror as he looked upon the mass of organic matter that was in the middle of the floor. An abomination. "M-Marconi?" he asked the blob of tissue which only laid there, throbbing. He could only stand there speechless until...

Another flash, brighter than before. He opened his eyes once more to find himself in a white emptiness. He saw only a tall black figure in front of him, a few meters away. "Where am i!" he demanded.

"You are in the domain... " the figure answered him.

"Who are you!" he demanded another answer.

"Who am i?" it questioned. "Well, that's a little more complicated... I am what some call the world. Or rather the universe. Many have called us God. Perhaps i am you, and you are i. We created you, and all." it said. "We are the Perfect... the envy of your life. The very thing you strive to be."

"Why am i here?" he said, his voice a little calmer.

"Thats a more interesting question, Scholar Cato. The Council of Prefects has come to an agreement. Scholar Courtiere Cato, Professor of Theories of the Dawnbreak College, the Court has charged you with playing god... Abusing creation, and attempting to become a god-like being." it answered.

"You have no right!" he shouted.

"We do..." It answered back. "We have created you and your kind, and have chosen to live among you as equals. The powers you toy with are beyond what any race is ready for..." the figure stated. "Look behind you, Scholar...."

Courtiere looked behind him and saw a large, imposing arc that only had darkness in its entrance... "Scholar, this is the Gateway of Knowledge... Reminiscent of the College's entrance, yes? The answers to existence lie behind it for the taking." the figure said.

Without hesitation, Courtiere rushed to the arc and placed his hand into the darkness... immediately, he was sucked into a void, Knowledge flowed into his head. More than he could have ever imagined. So much, so fast. He understood it all now. The very secrets he was chasing, and more. He saw a light at the end of the darkness he had been sucked into, and was flung out of the arc to the feet of the figure.

"You understand now?" it asked.

"Yes, yes!" Courtiere shouted, " There must be more! I must know more!" he shouted louder.

"Unfortunately, Scholar..." it paused. "There is a toll for your passage through the gate." it said in a more serious tone.

"Toll?" he asked.

"Yes... The price for your knowledge is your sanity, Scholar Cato... The very thing you use to comprehend your knowledge is demanded as your price." It said.

"Wait, what!?!!?" he shouted. Slowly he felt his mind wither away. "No... n- no...." he said in an ever growing faint tone.

"Congratulations, Scholar.... We do appoint you the Embodiment of Insanity. Forever to rule over all that is wrong, and illogical. Forcing your fate upon others as your punishment. You are Insana Primoris...." It shouted.

"In - Insana..... Pri- Primoris?" he said.

"Yes, Insana... " it rested its hand upon his head. In a flash of light, he was Courtiere no more... He was a Belkan no more. He was the first insane. The Insana Primoris. The Embodiment of Insanity. Turing those to his ways for the rest of eternity....
