Salvage Run
« on: April 04, 2010, 11:53:25 PM »
"Are you SURE those maps are right?" Sara asked, for the third time.

The Mercs, along with Flora who'd decided to stay with them(she'd decided that they were the kindest people to her, after the Terraguove incident and when they had actually shown up for her when she was released from the Archive forces), were out in the Soverign ship graveyard, out on a run for salvage and sellable parts. Business was slow this month, and they needed the cash.
"Yes Sara, IM SURE!" Hiro said, exasperated. Apparently, she was afraid of ghosts. Hiro couldn't get this, considering that she weilded a sentient lance, just as all the Mercs(except Flora) weilded objects with sentience. How were their objects much different than ghosts?

"Um, Hiro? Accoarding to these readings and the area on these maps, um, there should be salvagable equipment on that freighter, over in the starboard direction." Flora said, timidly.
"Thanks, Flora. What can we expect to find?"
"A few broken power generators, a couple working computers, and a damaged laser cannon. As for the cargo bay, who knows? Its a freighter class ship, so its likely that the cargo bay is the most protected area, and thus the cargo should be in good shape. Unless its some kind of food, it should be in good condition."
"Alright, then thats the first place we'll check out. Lets get going!"

Suddenly massive energy signatures began to show up on well all of the scanning equipment that the mercs brought with them, despite the lack of air there was sound.. And it was a roar, a loud deafening roar.
The world is a mess..and I just need to..rule it.

"...The heck was that!?"
"Where did it come from?"
"Quit making that racket, Im tryin' ta sleep!"

All about the ship, the mercs were trying to figure out what that was...Well, except for that one guy who was sleeping.
"...Hey, Flora? Just in case Sara is right about all that ghost stuff, when I say ready, turn everything off."
"Huh!? But your animals...You cant survive without oxygen!"
"Thats why I said when I said to turn it all off." Hiro said, opening the intercom. "Yo, everyone! I want you all to get on a space suit. No complainin', we're turning everything offline, so it'll be the only thing giving us new oxygen." After he said that, he got himself, Sara, and Flora one. "No, I dont need one."
"Huh? You sure, Flora?"
"I have organelles from both plants and animals, right? I should be able to survive by continuously recycling the oxygen and carbon dioxide in my body."
"Well, its gonna get cold. Put it on, just in case."
"Alright..."

After that, Flora turned off all of the systems, thus canceling all readings coming from the ship. Combining that with the fact that the Dark Heart was completely salvaged, it provided the best camouflage among the other wrecks, making it practically invisible.

And yet within moments a incredibly large whatever the hell this thing was started slowly drifting through the wreckage. It seemed to be the size of a small sun, yet it was black and green, and it had eyes and parts.. It was alive.
Whatever it wanted it seemed to be uninterested in the Dark Heart, instead it opened it's great maw and ate a large amount of the wreckage, including the ship that the Dark Heart was intending to salvage.

There were legends that were in many cultures, each matching up despite that these cultures were worlds apart. The legends were about a World Eater, or a great beast that lives up to it's name. It eats worlds. This graveyard must be the remains of those poor souls who ran into the beast, and then those even poorer souls who came to salvage those poor souls.. It was a bad cycle, but it seemed to feed the monster.
The world is a mess..and I just need to..rule it.

OOC:Cool looking. :O

"What the heck is it...?" Hiro asked.
"A...G...Ghost?"
"I cant be sure. Nothing like it was on the databases, Hiro...Whatever it is, I dont think it can see us, though." Flora said, accessing a minicomputer in the space suits, yet bringing nothing back on the creature.
"Is that good or bad?"
"Depends. If it thinks we're food? Bad. If it doesn't? Good."
"What does it think we are?"
"Probably food."
"Then lets try to get out of here...Bring on the engines, but only slightly...We dont wanna startle it."
"Should I see if we can open communications?"
"Are you CRAZY!? That never works! It either gets interpreted as a hostile action, or they find us and kill us anyways! We should just try to get away, rather than actually bother it."

With another physics breaking roar the World Eater seemed to just drift away.

"...Alright, lets go for another wreck, then. What about that one?" Hiro asked, pointing to one. They'd decided to not turn the power back on all the way, but enough to allow oxygen to be filtering through the ship. Hiro was pointing in the direction of one in the opposite direction the beast went, and so a small team of four mercs went in. The mercs had coms, and Hiro, Sara, and Flora kept them updated on their progress. "Alright, so it isn't as good a wreck as the freighter, but try to find some useful salvage. And even if something's hopelessly broken, it can be melted down for the Hull, so bring it back anyways. Remember to check the cargo bay, too."
"Roger, anything else?"
"Well, I could go for a coffee..."
"I keep telling you, I dont have any coffee! Radio silence!"
As soon as the coms were off, Hiro said to Sara,"I love ticking Jeff off with that..."

They got their salvage, and soon left.

----------

However, the Mercs kept this place on their maps, and every so often, they brought junked ships they found(towing with the Dark Heart), and other such things they couldn't use. They saw that this place had a purpose-the home to this...Leviathan. And since obviously people would already be scared to come to such a place, they thought that it might run out of food. This way, such a awe-inspiring creature would be able to survive without needing to start attacking worlds or non-junked ships, as such might provoke people to want the creature destroyed. And that would be a terrible thing...

OOC:Kinda off topic, but I assume that the only reason it can breath is because it is so big it has its own atmosphere? XD
