Novierian descent
« on: April 09, 2010, 11:37:46 PM »
(Before any of you cry foul, Novierian teleportation is done with their minds, not magic.)

"Um, Sir? You might want to look at this." A Novierian transmitted a message to Avaith, whom slowly came to the bridge. "This planet... it's interrupting our mana sensors. Our neural sensor seems fine though." The helmsmen explained to the Novierian leader, gazing at the silver-like planet.
"Send a excavation droid. Have it test both magical and neural capabilities." Avaith commanded, as a nearby staff member confirmed. Before long, a droid returned from the surface with mixed results.
"... Sir. The droid shows that magic output and input remained at zero at all times during the testing sequence. Magical teleportation also failed. Neural tests shown, however, that the planet is perfectly habitable for us. Tests also show that the soil or ground itself seems to negate any magic whatsoever."
"... So magic is impeded, but our neural powers aren't?"
"Correct sir. We can move massive amounts of the population from Novier to this planet and be completely safe from any magic users."
Avaith felt joyful at the thought. This planet would be their sanctuary. "Alright. Teleport us down."
"Neural teleportation engaged!" The helmsman commanded, as the entire fleet began to teleport down to the planet Nil's surface.

The masses of the Novierians from their fleet all boarded the planet, having safely teleported onto it.
"Sir... This soil is something out of our understanding. If compacted together, it stands to be a crafting resource more durable than most metals from Migaitt. And the fact that it repels magic..." A surveyor reported to Avaith, which piqued his interest.
"Really?" Avaith found this to be quite surprising. This could be the break they need. "Well, name it then! Calling it just soil is just an outrage! This is something that very well may save us all!"
"Is... Nilgaitt an acceptable name, sir?" The surveyor questioned, unsure of the response.
"It'll do. In fact, I'm afraid that's all we can call it at the moment." Avaith accepted the name, then turning to an attendant. "Attendant! Have our masses begin construction of a city. Our connection to Migaitt has not yet waned. Also, get some of our scientists studying this soil as much as possible. I want full reports of the flora and fauna by nightfall!" Avaith commanded.

This was going to be a long day. A long time frozen day to be exact. The time dilation from the black holes in the galaxy kicked in and pretty much just made every Novierian's speed much slower than usual.

As the Noverians toiled below, their efforts in vain as they were in a Time Dilation field, a large rift appeared in the fabric of space above the silver planet, as a large planet sized metallic look sphere left the wormhole it appeared both unaffected by the gravity and the Time Dilation field. It was the ADF Omega, recently outfitted with a newly created device made specifically to allow travel into the Vaccus system, when they picked up the Noverian's on their sensors they decided it was best to help the trapped people. And because they were an undiscovered race, which would prove far to lovely for the Archive to ignore, as it was their duty to make sure nothing went undiscovered.

"Sir, it appears they were in the middle of creating a settlement, and we are picking up strange reading from the planet's natural minerals. I suggest we drop a small contingency with a large enough battery to supply the Stasis field's power demand." A technician on the bridge reported to the Commander, who sat in a chair reading status reports on a holoC. "Agreed, drop them in the middle of the settlement, we don't know if these beings are dangerous. Once a small base camp is created and we know the entities are not hostile we'll beam them aboard and help them create a settlement along with us, I intend to lead the contingency." The Commander ordered, in a few hours a small number of Archive soldiers and scientists were beamed onto the planet below, the Omega had gotten close enough that the landing zone was within the field, after that the ship backed off. Only after they had activated the stasis device, which unfroze the surrounding Noverians.

"We are the Archive, you were trapped within the Time Dilation field of a nearby black hole, we stumbled upon you and got you out. We need to verify if you are sentient and friendly, if so we'll beam you aboard our ship and make sure you're safe!" The Commander informed, his voice booming from the armor he was wearing, they had to get back to the Omega soon, the battery could only supply the Stasis field for a small amount of time.

Many Novierians had no idea what they were even talking about. That was, until they noticed the skies were moving much more slower. And the fact that they knew something about time dilation, but not really all that much.
Avaith looked upwards at the craft, and attempted to truly feel exactly who they were dealing with.
... Their neural patterns are complicated. But it seems they are able to understand our patterns as long as their mind can interpret them. Avaith's analysis of the aircraft was done quickly, and immediately turned to an attendant. "Have an architect build a temporary neural gate to Novier and move anyone not combat ready back to our planet. After you've moved our masses, establish interstellar connection with my concentrator. I don't trust these creatures..." Avaith commanded, and it was so. Within a minute, metals and materials suddenly and quickly appeared from Migaitt, and the gate was up and running in mere seconds. Avaith then commanded a diplomat and a few soldiers to group with him.

And then Avaith turned to the flying ship. "We are ready. Beam us up." He transmitted to the giant aircraft, wondering if they could even understand Novierian thought.
By the time the command was issued, most, if not all of the Novierians that came to Nil was back on their home planet. The only thing that remained was their leader and his crew, and various buildings that laid strewn around the place.

"Alright, this is wonderful! Would you mi-" The Commander got cut off mid-sentence as they were beamed up to the Omega, who was close enough to cover the pathway with the field. "-nd telling us the name of your civilization? We are the Archive, a private organization with simple goals. We intend to discover and keep dangerous artifacts and items of interest away from the general galactic public, explore and catalog the universe, and gain as much information as possible. I'm the Commander, that's it, no name. I'm the current Captain of this Titan class vessel, the largest of the known factions.. I'm hoping that you did not enter the Vaccus system without first realizing the dangers of Black Holes. It has both an incredibly intense gravitational pull and a Time Dilation field, making whatever inside the Time Dilation practically freeze in Time.. We've just recently created a device that allows us to pass through Time Dilation fields unharmed." The Commander kept talking, taking a few seconds to breathe.

"We were hoping to create a viable settlement on the planet below, we have a type of generator that can last for around thirteen thousands years before being refueled, and it makes enough power to make the settlement immune to the TD field.." The Commander informed, obviously interested with his own Organization's technology. "But to the point, we wish to help you create a permanent settlement along with us. A cooperative effort between us." The Commander announced, his armor opening up to reveal his second layer of armor. Man this guy loves armor.

The moment Avaith was on the ship, his mind had gone straight to work (along with the help of his concentrator) on analyzing every part of the ship they were on. Unfortunately, the craft was big. Too big. Planet sized even. It would take more than a day to even scan a fourth of the craft, even if he had help. Whatever it was, Avaith was pretty sure he was at the mercy of these people no matter what happened.
If he refused? They'd drop them back on their planet and let the time dilation mess with them. Or if what they said was true, and that they recorded every little thing about everything, they themselves would fall victim to experiments.

A Novierian may be proud, but they certainly know when they're beat.

"... We are Novierians. I am the leader known as Avaith. And yes, we were indeed foolish enough to enter this system without prior knowledge of these black holes. I'm afraid our knowledge of space is low, and I hope that fact doesn't diminish your opinion of us." Avaith messaged this commander person, and pondered exactly how much of that message was really understood. He tried to make his neural waves to a level where most minds could interpret, but other than the race they just got out of war with, Novierians really don't have that much experience conversing with other sentient beings.

"Ah, that's fine, we'll give you access to some of our information on space travel and different anomalies, along with that if you wish to continue traveling in the Vaccus system you'll need Gravitron shields. We can provide you with those as well, all we ask in return are blood, bone, tissue, muscle, brain fluid samples, and some basic history of your race. We will in return give you samples of the following of the races in service of the Archive. Then if you accept we'll begin building the settlement." The Commander both requested and informed as he stepped out of his massive GR-armor.

"I'll also add the routine defenses of a practical Archive outpost, this means a few Rail-turrets, a single set of GR-armor, fifteen highly-trained Archive operatives, and five intelligent scientists with some mining equipment so we can get a sample of this unique mineral." The Commander finished.

Not much choice here... of course we have to accept. Avaith looked over to his diplomat he brought with him, and a short exchange of messages between them set the agreement. "We are at an agreement then. You should have some of our scientists pretty soon, along with a few historians. As for division of land for this planet, I would like to expect half and half. I believe you've seen how fast we can build as well, so I assure you we won't be wasting our cut." Avaith messaged  the Commander, and turned to his Diplomat.

"Do you really think they're going to just accept this as is?"
"I doubt it. They will more than likely plan to turn on us the moment they learn everything about us. Issue a emergency gate schematic to Novier for all of our architects in case such a thing does happen."
"Either that or they'll just start to use us as building slaves. At any rate, I'm afraid I'll have to agree with you, we really can't trust them."

Avaith and the diplomat exchanged neural messages back and forth, unaware to anyone else that was looking at the two. Their conversation was actually fast enough that if they were even 'talking,' no one would understand what they were saying.
Avaith turned back to the Commander. If anything, by now the person probably noticed that a Novierian faces to however they're talking to. "Is there anything else we need to discuss?"

"Alright, we are at an agreement, we'll start the Noverian/Archive settlement at the point of your original settlement, then when the time comes to expand we will continue in our allowed territory. What should we call the settlement? It will be the Capital of the planet, I'll let the Noverian's decide, you did discover the planet yourself." The Commander informed, Omega began to near the planet and start to drop various payloads that would be needed to sustain a colony, food, water, Star Drive, six orbs, components to rail-turrets, the defensive weaponry. The whole works. "It seems that your people are able to construct building very quickly, we'll leave the general building to you, but we'll make sure the defensive weaponry is all in place. If there isn't anything else we'll beam you down along with the soldiers, scientists, and some colonists." The Commander said.

"In that case, I would like to name it..." Avaith turned to his diplomat, and quickly back to the commander. "Offias. If you want any particular structures built, send us an architect with what you have in mind." Avaith mentioned, and stretched his arms.
"And, uh, we don't require nourishment. Unless those degradable supplies are for your population." He added, and then pressed a button on his concentrator.

"Avaith here. Attendant, have our original groups be ready to move back through the gate once we reconstruct it."
"You got it." And with that, they were ready.

"Yes, many of the races in the Archive require nourishment through the digestion of certain combination of minerals, vitamins, and delicious cheeseburgers." The Commander informed, both of them were beamed down as the Star Drive was then initiated, it looked like a giant tower with the orb at the end, every two days a layer of the orb would be peeled, released a massive amount of energy which would be absorbed into the Star Drive. This would power the entire settlement.

"We will set up our rail-turrets, they fire slugs of metal at a small percent of light, these small versions fire it around the 5.89% the speed of light. Making it very destructive against any attacking vessels. We have supplied the armory with a single suit of GR-armor, if one of our soldiers gets in that, expect him to become a soldier with the offensive and defensive capabilities of a star ship." The Commander informed, a smile on his face. "So Avaith, it was wonderful meeting you, here are the coordinates of our home base, but I highly suggest you do not go there unless in an Archive ship, it's based above a black hole." The Commander said.

"Sir, preliminary scans reveal that the minerals cancels out magic, similar to an AM field. But instead making magic impossible, it just makes it sort off fizzle out.. This will be incredibly useful if we can find out a way to reproduce it." A scientist reported, handing the Commander a holoC. "Good, experimental mining within a mile of here. Supply it with a few colonists and a single scientist, two soldiers as well." The Commander ordered. "So Avaith, this turned out quite well for you didn't it? You know have a foothold in a Vaccus system and the ability to travel through it once you install a Star Drive into one of your ships. I think this is the beginning of a wonderful alliance between our two people."

"I hope so. If you ever come to our planet, I highly suggest you bring a representative of ours with you. We... are a bit antsy when it comes to foreigners. We should have a third of the planet built by nightfall, and underground settlements shortly after that. In the meantime, I suggest that our people socially connect as quickly as possible and get them acquainted enough so we can start building." Avaith informed the Commander, sending off a few hundred commands from his concentrator afterwards.

"I don't see the harm in it. However, I must warn you that us Novierians tend to like sparring in fist to fist combat, so if one does challenge you or any of your people, please don't take it personally. It's our way of... entertainment." Avaith explained, completely disregarding whatever compliments the commander may have had in tow. "If that's it, then I believe we can go about our business."
He's being much too friendly. Some planning will have to take place on Novier if they ever decide to coup detat us...

"Ah, they'll get along with any of the Archive soldiers, we do have a bit of an anxious streak, seeing as we are trained to fight, but mostly just guard the scientists. A spar here and there will help let off steam. Well Avaith, it's been nice meeting you and your people." The Commander informed, nodding his head slightly. With that, he was beamed aboard.
