Spellbook
« on: April 10, 2010, 08:50:23 PM »
Work in progress. Basically, I'm making a spellbook. It was originally designed for Cosmic Empires but now is being made into an OK/GE/SP Spellbook. Just putting it here for a working base.

*What Is This Book For?

Let me first comment to all you roleplayers that I am very aware how difficult it is for some of you to grasp the concept of magic. I imagine those who do not get it right off the bat are left wondering what the rules to magic are, realizing how surely abusive the idea of magic could be when left without guidelines. The truth is, there are no real guidelines to magic in this RP. Nor are there requests, or anything else you have to do to start using magic; Just go for it.

** (This RP may refer to CE a lot, because that was my target audience at the time of writing. However; it also applies to Galactic Empires and the Opposing Kingdoms. These are just spells. Considering the two roleplays share base mythology, all the spells listed should apply to both roleplays.)

Spells? Attacks? Just make them up as you go along. As you probably know by now, especially if you’ve ever roleplayed elsewhere besides our roleplay, CE is a very open-style roleplay, and as one user remarked within a private conversation with me once, it’s very easy for the user to influence the plot; Nothing’s really set in stone.
However; I know it’s not as easy for everyone to accept such. Some people need a little push in the right direction. So, I’ve gone through the board, pulled out some spells, and made some new ones up as well. I’ve given general guidelines on how to use each spell. This is a spell book for anyone who wants to use magic, designed for both first-time magic users and veterans.

*What Is This Book NOT For?

Just to clear up any potential misunderstandings, this book is not meant to serve as any kind of rule or guideline listing for magic. The spells presented are not the only spells, and you don’t have to use them. Nothing I say in this book is mandatory, and you have the choice to add to this book or do whatever you’d like. This is only to give you ideas and a list of pre-made spells for you to use; as easily as I wrote this book, you can create new spells and use them in the RP without any further need of consent from staff.
I’ll leave you with two quotes. One from Nisorin, God bless his soul; the other from myself.

“Magic's really something where the main advantage is making it up as you go. Tech doesn't have that versatility. I agree, we do need some manner of moderating magic, but I think that having to request everything would kinda defeat the purpose.” - Nisorin

“Magic Battles are designed to be extensive ones which last well longer compared to an average ship battle. These battles pit usually two opponents against each other. In most cases, both have magic.
The two must use magic to outsmart the magic of the other.” - K2

With that said, I’d like to say that perhaps the best way to learn magic is to witness it (though if you‘d rather, just skip over the next two paragraphs, I don‘t blame you). I’d like to provide you with two great examples of magic battles, and I hope that you can take them to heart and learn from them. Some of the spells you will see below were made or originated from the topics I am about to list!

Niiiisorin (Shortened Title)
This topic is an extensive, well-balanced one where Relorian Magic meets a much darker magic. We meet up with a little-known character who's been gone for some time, Kylexx, wife of a powerful leader named Rogue, who has apparently staged a disappearance of herself with help from Nisorin, a leader of the Relorian Empire.
She meets Nisorin in a forest where the two exchange literature material. Kylexx asks how the outside world has been. Nisorin briefs her in recent politics with a terrorist organization, X-LACE.
However; the conversation is soon interrupted as a great force arrives in the forest. The topic tells the story of a battle against Rogue's half brother, Vincent, and his arrival to the kingdoms. A great battle, this topic is a more well-balanced example of magic battles.

Reunion
Reunion is a battle taking place in the Negative Dimension of Nox. The idea of Positive and Negative Dimensions are like sides of a paper. To get to the other side of the paper, you must flip it over. Similarly, to get between Negative and Positive dimensions, you must use a specialized, magic gate, or be teleported there by a powerful source.
In Reunion, Koty, father of a at-the-time powerful leader named Rogue, brings a man named K2323 ("K2") and K2's brother who he's only just met to Nox, a dimension which is basically Rogue himself. Rogue has become the dimension, and he controls it and everything in it.
The purpose of K2323 and Johnathan arriving in Nox is to battle. Why? Johnathan wants to unlock something. Something he thinks is a great treasure. Something that could kill everyone.
The battle between K2323 and Johnathan has significantly less magic than some, but it's a good example of a battle with very powerful spells ("The Mark Of Genesis").
http://cosmicempires.ipbfree.com/index.php...wtopic=532&st=0

These two battles both had major impacts on character plots, and had some pretty hardcore magic. If you’re a new-time magic user, this guide will aim to get you posting with intensity as the posts above. However; remember, the characters in the two topics above are all high-level magic users. The user must be careful not to god mode with the character! Even if your character’s high-level right off the get go, you still must be careful to know the line between powerful and godmoding!

*A Guide For Understanding This Book
I’m going to generally outline the template you will see below and simplify things for you. Each spell will be divided into categories and placed accordingly in alphabetical order. Each spell will list the name, if there is a name for the spell. Following will be a level; There are no official levels of spells IC, but I have created a small system for the sole purpose of understanding this book.

Novice: These spells are beginner-friendly (IC), but anyone can use them.
Moderate: Novices probably can’t use these, but anyone with a bit of experience can.
Moderately Advanced: Moderate users may be able to use these spells once or twice within the battle, but they will likely be tired at great lengths after doing so; On the other hand, more advanced magic users can easily use these spells.
Advanced: These spells generally take a bit of an experienced user to be preformed.
Experienced Only: These spells are strictly for very advanced magic users.
Elite: These spells are very strong, and even the most advanced of magic users will be very stressed and tired after using one of these spells.
Forbidden: Spells of insane strength, usually resulting in destruction of all parties involved.

The template will also include the “type of magic” which is just its category and bears no importance besides organization and classification. You will read a description of the spell in which most of the information is presented. We will then provide you with any obvious counter spells and provide known users for the spell, if there are any.

So, without further ado, I give you.. K2’s Ultimately Long Book Of Spells Guaranteed To Make Your People Bow At Your Feet! (Or K2’s Book Of Spells for short..)

Spell Name: Signature Cloak
Spell Level: Novice
Type Of Magic: ~General
Spell Description: Magic generally can be sensed by even a human; the brain instinctively picks up on Magic Signature and knows if magic is being used nearby. Those who understand this concept (virtually any magic-user) can tell exactly where magic is being used at, and sometimes by who. This spell, a very basic spell, allows a user to cloak his magic signature. It is impossible to completely cloak the signature, but it is possible to lower it so low that nobody will suspect the presence of the cloaked. This spell, also, can be used, hypothetically, to change a signature into that of someone elses, to be used to frame someone in an attack.
Counter Spell: Signature Inverse

**Ancient Starclan Magic
This magic is that developed and practiced by the ancient ones of the Starclan, ancestors to the modern day ones. This magic is also known as Pur Magic.

Spell Name: Climel
Spell Level: Moderately Advanced
Type Of Magic: Ancient Starclan
Spell Description: Used with Kensou; First, drain all blood out of the arm you will use for this attack (making sure your body can withstand such biologically) and create a block in your arm as to not allow magic to gather in it. Then, despite the block, try summoning magic to your arm. The block will stop it. Keep summoning magic, and slowly release the block. Then, release the block all at once.. Magic pours from the skin pores, causing the entire arm to turn into a wave of Pur Energy, and the wave causes energy to flood into the target, destroying it. This also destroys the caster’s arm, but the spell automatically causes the arm to regrow and the blood you extracted pours into the new arm.
Counter Spells: N/A
Notable Users: Dull (“Ancient Starclan Training”)

Spell Name: Kensou
Spell Level: Moderate
Type Of Magic: Ancient Starclan
Spell Description: This spell is preformed before every fight the Ancient Starclan is in; envision magic being produced inside the body. Summon magic to your hands. Slow the pace of the magic going to your hands, but increase the flow of magic being produced within you. Let a great deal of magic build up inside you, and then release, making the body ready to fight and pumping the caster up.
Counter Spells: N/A
Notable Examples: Dull Star / James Star (“Ancient Starclan Training”)

**Barrier
These are almost always defensive spells made in order to block matter or energy from crossing a certain point.

Spell Name: Anti-Teleportation Barrier
Spell Level: Moderately Advanced
Type Of Magic: Barrier
Spell Description: The caster, to cast this spell, must simply concentrate on the area he wants to place a block around and imagine it as only being accessible by a door which is currently locked. Such thought is all that is needed to produce an Anti-Teleportation Barrier. However; these barriers can only be maintained for so long. (Generally, you should try to only keep one of these barriers up for twenty posts.)
Counter Spell: You walk to your destination.
Notable Examples: N/A

Spell Name: (Ultimate) Barrier
Spell Level: Moderate
Type Of Magic: Barrier
Spell Description: An all-around barrier which blocks any kind of matter or magic which attempts to penetrate it physically.
Counter Spell: Can easily be ‘jumped’ by Teleportation. Any barrier can be broken if persistently worn down from the outside by several attacks upon it. (Generally, after about five posts of continuous attacking on a barrier, you should be able to break it, unless it is particularly strong.)
Notable Examples: Diviae Relorian are particularly skilled in barriers.

Spell Name: Inverse Barrier
Spell Level: Moderately Advanced
Type Of Magic: Barrier
Spell Description: Serves the same purpose as a barrier, only also restricting magic or physical matter to leave the confined area.
Counter Spell: Like a normal barrier, teleportation allows an inverse barrier to be ‘jumped’. This barrier can be worn down after persistent attack on it from the outside. (Generally, after about five posts of continuous attacking on a barrier, you should be able to break it, unless it is strong.) However; attacking a barrier on the inside will do you no good.

**Corrupted Magic
Corrupted Magic is generally a very devastating type of black magic. Corrupted Magic is basically the essence of death, and originates in Nox, being a magic produced in the soul of Koty. It is a very extreme and advanced magic, common usually only among Koty and his sons, though there are cases when others possess this magic.

Spell Name: Corruption Lift
Spell Level: Advanced
Type Of Magic: Corrupted Magic
Spell Description: Corruption Lift is a spell in which the very skin of the body of the caster is dispelled from his body and replaced with an invisible layer of corrupted energy, leaving the body only visible as bone and muscle. This spell is usually not needed as the skin naturally falls off the body when exposed in excess to corruption.
Counter Spells: N/A
Notable Examples: N/A

Spell Name: Corrupted Smoke
Spell Level: Experienced Only
Type Of Magic: Corrupted Magic / Smoke
Spell Description: This smoke is the force of death manifested into the form of a spell. The caster’s entire body begins to emit black smoke from any opening present (mouth, nose, pores, etc..) into the atmosphere. Anyone who breaths this smoke who is not experienced with Corrupted Magic will find their internal organs rotting. This is a very dangerous magic! The caster, if not already under the influence of corruption, will find his entire body corrupted upon using this spell, resulting in a very dark lifestyle.
Counter Spells: Hypothetically, a counter-spell could be created in the form of another non-corrupted smoke.
Notable Examples: Vincent (“Niiiiiiiisoriiiiiiiiin”)

Spell Name: Corrupted Void
Spell Level: Elite
Type Of Magic: Corrupted Magic
Spell Description: The caster summons black shadows around the opponent. Counter Spells: Dispeaus Shatter
Notable Examples: N/A

Spell Name: Green Corruption
Spell Level: Moderately Advanced
Type Of Magic: Corrupted Magic
Spell Description:
Green Corruption is a type of petrifaction in which plantlife is destroyed. It acts as a sort of radiation, usually being emitted unintentionally by a wielder of Corrupted magic. Anything green (plantlife) within range of something giving off this spell will soon find itself dead, and if it remains after death within range of the magic, it will wither to dust.
Counter Spells: Generally, certain kinds of Relorian Magic can counter the spell if action is taken fast enough.
Notable Examples: Vincent (“Niiiiiiiisoriiiiiiiiin”)

Spell Name: Dark-Green Manipulation
Skill Level: Moderate
Type Of Magic: Corrupted Magic
Spell Description:
Anyone who uses this spell can possess and control dead plant life. For example, making a dead tree’s roots spurt out of the ground and wrap around a human body.

Spell Name: Light Corruption Cast
Spell Level: Moderate
Type Of Magic: Corrupted Magic

Spell Name: Planet Corruption
Spell Level: Forbidden

Notable Examples: Letum (“Niiiiiiiisoriiiiiiiiin”)

Spell Name: Shadow Smokes
Spell Level: Elite
Type Of Magic: Corrupted Magic / Smoke
Spell Description: Used as a combat to attacks, this stops any moving projectile or energy and causes shadow-like figures to form around said projectile or energy, devouring it. Once the matter or energy is gone, the shadows form into smoke and begin to spread in every direction in long streams of smoke, right towards the targets that the caster commands it to attack. Counter Spells: Generally, certain kinds of Relorian Magic can counter the spell if action is taken fast enough, though wildlife can not be brought back to life; The counter must be put in place before animal life dies, but due to the nature of the spell, it is very hard to detect the spell before it begins its work. However; the spell is also known to follow Green Corruption; If a Green Corruption spell is put into place, it might be a good idea for anyone with Relorian Magic present to put into action a counter-spell.
