SPTCG: Card distribution, Currency, Shop, ideas, etc.
« on: August 30, 2010, 06:06:07 PM »
So now that we've gotten the ball rolling, and are more-or-less 1/3rd through with phase one, I think it's time we decided exactly how cards are going to be distributed when we get to phase 4.

There's no doubt about it, we will need a system of how cards are going to be given/sold/whatever to players. In phase 2, you can just build whatever decks and you'll be all set, purely because we're playtesting. But, uh...
Let's look at CLTCG for an example. For those that don't remember, allow me to explain. Every time someone posted, they'd get money to buy cards from a PHP shop that the forum had set up.

This will not work. Those that are the most active in posting will gain a lot of money and spend it all around the place, ruining whatever economy we had to begin with (In other words, the most active poster could buy the rare, limited cards before anyone else could, making it totally unfair by just hoarding the cards and whatnot.) So what should be done?

Award currency by how many duels a person does, whether they win or lose? Just participating would give each person the same amount, so those that post a lot but don't care for the card game will find that they don't have to mess with it?

Or maybe implement a card time system; you can buy cards for all the same amount, but you'd only have it for a limited number of duels. This would eliminate the whole "lolol i has a rare n u dont lolololol," but it would create a lot more problems, and players would constantly have to buy cards whenever they run out, spending more currency than they originally would.

Another thing mentioned was a post grading system; members would grade your posts on how detailed or something they were, and you would gain currency for however much you were graded on. The problem with this though, is that members would purposely grade other members they don't like down, making it not as fair.

Name of currency. Here's a few ideas and we'll decide by vote.

Anoms (Short for Anomite, which is the same as Biotite. But Bios sounded retarded.)
Bananas/Apples/Peaches/Onions/Whatever food item (I'm starting to get hungry..)
Cents (This makes no cents. lulz, get it? Cents? Sense? ... Er, right.)
Credits (Mind putting that lightsaber away? I'm developing a card game!)
Crystals (Ooooh, shiny..)
Dollars (I wish I had this.)
Energy (lololCLTCGreference)
Gil (You defeated a monster for 74 exp and gained 147 Gil and a magic fire ring...)
Gold (siiiilver and gold... siiiilver and gold...)
Munny (lolkingdomhearts)
Nuclei (What did the Proton say to the electron? "You attract me!" ... ... ... Uhm, anyways...)
Planes (Shattered Planes? So there's more than one plane since it's shattered? CURRENCY!!)
Role Plays (Check for traps.)
Shards (Shards of Shattered Planes anyone?)
Slaves (lololslavetrade) Disclaimer: SPTCG nor does Shattered Planes condone slavery or anything of the sort.
Uni (Universes)
Zaibies (Zombies, only difference is that they say HAIL ZEON rather than 'brains' or moaning.)
<Your suggestions here!>

These are the current ideas. Submit more! We gotta have this figured out by the time Phase 4 comes.

Be should have something special for a currency, because we are unique, so why don't we either a) make something up or b) use nuclear atoms or something. Or, we cane use spheres that resemble magic but that's like Final Fantasy...

Or, we could make small universes be currency, however the universes aren't real and they can be called Unis. Lol.

As for how we get it...we could have the win get double of what the original payment is. So say I had 25, I lost. The winner can get 50. They did win, it's sort of lame if we get the same whether we win or lose, and then the card game won't really go far.

The levels can help too, like if you're an advanced player and you're going against another advanced player, the payment is higher. But if it's an advanced player versus a beginner, then the winner (assume it's the advanced player) then they would get the winning payment for that level.

I dunno how many each level should have but yeeeeah...lol..

The name of the currency... Might as well add that to the first post.

I get your point, battling against other levels in comparison to your own = amount of ___ you would receive. I imagine the system would go something like this:

Beginner VS Beginner. Let's say that beginner levels are worth 5... uh... I dunno, dollars. So if you beat a beginner, I'm going to assume that your payment for it is double, so you receive 10.

But wait, let's say that a Beginner beats a Advanced (Advanced worth.. 10? Sure.) Now you can't just double 10 and be done with it, no! A beginner (with no experience!) beat an advanced person (with loads of experience!), so therefore they must be rewarded. I imagine it'd go something like, say, since you beat a advanced, I'd say add the original payout for whatever levels inbetween beginner and advanced along with the doubled payout you'd get from advanced.

Like so:

Beginner vs. Beginner would be 10 to the winner.
Beginner vs. Advanced would be 20 to the winner, plus the value of beating a beginner without doubling (5), so you're receive 25 dollars total.

So that way, for the biggest payout, a beginner would have to beat the top class of them all. So I'm just going to make up some...

Beginner = 5
Advanced = 10
Expert = 15
Master = 20
Elder = 25
Demi-Deity = 30
Deity = 35
Epoch = 40
You have no life = 45

So let's say a beginner beats a No Life person. The original payout would be 45 doubled, so the beginner would receive 90 dollars. Then, you would add all the values from beginner to Epoch. So 5+10+15+20+25+30+35+40 = 180, and 180 + 90 = 270 Dollars. So the beginner would win 270 dollars to spend stuff on, while the No life would receive 5 because he dueled with a beginner. If the No life dueled against an Epoch and lost, he'd receive 40 while the Epoch received 90.

* Kaitan_Zai Just confused the entire forum.

Everything you just said. I agree. And also, I vote for the currency to be called Slaves.

* UnStellar won't spend any money and will instead keep a harem of Slaves for his own amusement.

Si, si, that's what I mean. If the levels get all mixed up and you beat someone higher than you then you should get more money than what you would normally.

But yes, we do need a "currency", something magical and scientific. Lol. I like your idea though, the post. Are those the actual levels? xD

As for currency, I like Hik's idea of the shard. It sounds cool. 8D

I like Hikaru's idea too, and if it's a good idea we could have different colors represent different values. Like how gold, bronze, and silver are for medals.
