Okay we're seriously dead...
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:23:34 AM »
It's pretty sad when an RP site depends on the admins to be active whatsoever and cannot stand on its own when they are gone. That is NOT what RP is supposed to be like. I know we're without magic due to the event, but wasn't half the board and most of the current active people technology based empires anyways? That should not disrupt the flow of the RP as much as it seems to be doing.

We currently have nine active people, some of which who are rarely active or can't be, and the rest who can't post because the two admins that are on vacation (should be back by now but aren't) were holding the ropes to the topics our characters were in.

Currently Active:
Hiro
Zak (sometimes)
Cap (rarely)
Nik (rarely)
Bladeswipe (Was active but it seems he gave up due to the deadness)
Zai.. (who just got banned from the internet till fall)
Yuki
Lyoko222
And myself.

With this many people we should NOT be as dead as we are. So what gives and how can we fix it?

Honestly, while most Empires are tech, our individual characters are usually magic. With the big giant AM Field thingy, I dunno about most people, but Im mostly unable to actually do too much with my characters. And part of my Empire's forces is still kinda in a battle with Orph. I guess I could still use the Lorcar, but the only way I even can use them is by attacking and the last two times I did the planet itself was either just gone or it was suddenly barren of life(though that second one I didn't formally completely take over but I was kinda waiting on Cap to three day rule and do whatever Bad Thing he was hinting was gonna happen which...Well...He never did, even before he went on his hiatus).

A lot of our characters indeed primarily use magic, so as long as the Magic's gone a lot of them are gonna be in limbo since we cant really do much of anything with them.

I have to agree with Hiro on this. Without magic, the forum's really dead, despite the amount of tech out there. Technically, SP is more magic based. When they made CE, they wanted magic to be a rare thing, and make it Tech based in comparison to SP.

Since this forum was dying, I don't think it was a good idea to say 'HEY LOL I'M GONNA HAVE YOU GAIZ LOSE MAGICS KAY? c:'. The best thing to do was to wait for a little more activity and/or Make an event to recreate activity.

All of my characters depend on magic in a way or another. So this is really bad for me unless I play with my Helixes or Yuki/Kat. I'm a sitting ducky. c: *quack*

And Jeebus is technically back to the interwebs. He posted something about atending Uni and just a few minutes ago, Dylan told me he was talking to Jeebs. So....

I dunno when they're taking it away. They seemed really serious about it yesterday, but they haven't taken it yet. I imagine they'll do it when I least expect it (Maybe I can get on through my PS Vita, but I dunno how they're going to go about doing it: passwording the connection, blocking my computer(s), or whatever else to name a few.)

Anyways, here's my two cents and a half. The magic being taken away kinda literally killed mostly everything I had since they all revolved around magic in some wa-

... wait, No, Solstici didn't. I could have done some nifty stuff with them and whatnot, maybe teach a few other characters how to use aura abilities to get a bunch of character development in.

1: Waiting for a character and his equipment to be approved. *cough* staff *cough*
2: Still battling Orph and awaiting staff decision on 3 day rule.
3: Two characters still in the boarding topic.
4: Aser, Isaac,  and many of my other characters are magic users and/ maybe dont have ties to the Zarethian Empire. As such, they're pretty much stuck wherever they were and are fodder.
5: Im the last post in many of my topics, including the Zarethian Empire's current issue with riots and the like. Lyoko hasnt responded and K2 is on Hiatus... Again.

The fact is the board just isn't exciting anymore. It seems like we're just grasping for straws now. Yeah, the no magic thing was interesting, but now adding in a no tech thing? That's going to shut down all transportation to anywhere, strand all the characters where they are and lock everything down.
Seeing the world through a child's eyes is truly a unique experience. It helps you to retrieve that sense of awe, magic and wonder that you lost as you lost your innocence. Tell me, when was the last time that you thought of those childhood dreams? You know, the ones that you used to spend all your time wondering and fantasizing about? Have you forgotten them so easily? Have you forgotten what it felt like to see something for the first time, to see the magic in the mundane? Everyone says you should take the time to 'Stop and smell the roses'. But you should also take the time to look for the fairies, embrace the wind and enjoy the rain. Just once today, stop for a moment and look into that little piece of nature you pass everyday. Perhaps you may see something you did not notice before.

It's not electricity that's the problem. It's Artificial Intelligence. Anything with programming is screwed, electrical or not.

Lyoko said this in chat earlier: AI are not affected as badly as other tech. They now have a 'sense' to seek out Alpha. Electrical machinery other than the AI are affected and shut down until this event ends or is nulled(*Hint hint*). Tech that doesn't require electricity is not affected. Gas, nuclear, hydro-powered(Etc) items are not affected.

Well, rather Sentient AI are. AI with the ability to think for themselves, and so on will have the natural urge to seek out the Alpha.

All those things ARE electronic except gas and steam. Nuclear technology simply uses nuclear components as a generator of electricity.

I learned something new today!

Anywho....If people still want to rp here and keep the site going, they need to learn to adapt and start regrowing from the ashes. Yes Hikaru, like a phoenix. Seriously, Learn to actually make use of yourself as 'mortals' and do something. Easier said than done and blah.

Hiro said the only characters he can use are his mages, and they don't have magic. So what? It's temporal. You can still use them. Have them acquire new skills in case this happens a third time instead of being a sitting duck. I have a plan for my characters who use magic. And I'll use them when I find someone to rp with during these events. Make a plan, stop procrastinating and do something.

OMFG NO MAGIX AND TECH, they're mortal for a time. Deal with it. It's basically like us in the real world but without electricity. Invent something powered by steam or gas. COME ON PEOPLE. This isn't hard if you think about it.

BUT IT TAKES A LOT OF STEAM AND GAS TO POWER THIS THING: so? Ever thought about making a 'Cycle' to keep the steam in and let the water particles collect and be reused as water ready to resteam? As for gas, you're on your own for that. I don't know if it can be reused gas.

OMAIGAWD BUT MY RACE WAS UBER POWERFUL WITH TECH AND SHITS. Oops. Try creating tech to keep surviving while everyone else dies because they don't have a brain. These events are setbacks and was bound to happen. But you can still do stuff.

I have a feeling people are going two either:

-Talk 'sense' to me now
-complain because they're too lazy to do anything
-complain because they aren't scientist with only the knowledge to say THIS PICTURE AND HIS IS HOW IT WORKS in the simplest way and a lot of text to make it seem awesome.
-Other negative actions.

All those things ARE electronic except gas and steam. Nuclear technology simply uses nuclear components as a generator of electricity.

This... is actually a really misleading comment. What you mean is, all of these things are generally used to create electricity. That doesn't mean those are the only uses. Using your own example, nuclear technology produces electricity by creating heat, which is used as the heating implement in steam power (yes, nuclear reactors are big kettles). You don't have to use it in this way though. You could route that into something more mechanical.

But, I have to agree with Swift here. If I'm understanding the argument correctly, everyone's complaint is "we based everything we have on two things, and now we are being punished for our unoriginality!" If that's your complaint... why are you playing a competitive RP in the first place? And, if the answer is "for the RP value", then good job! Your characters still exist, and they now have real challenges to RP around!

But yeah. For anyone who's still struggling: Unless you're using EMTs and tesla coils (which I highly doubt, since I know most of you aren't that smart. No offence. Being smart isn't everything. Unless you're me), your technology isn't necessarily reliant on electricity, except for control. There's no reason you can't manually boot your engines, land your fleet, and fix stuff up to not be electricity reliant from the ground. This one was free. Next time you need solutions, you can negotiate for them. <3

Well, all space-faring ships are out of commission. There is no control over them any more, and their crews are likely dead. Otherwise, you make a good point.

Man, wouldn't it be funny if two people posted these comments directly back to back like this. Like, one person going "here's a possible solution" and the next person immediately going "all hope is lost, we'll never find a solution!" No, wait, that totally just happened, didn't it? Never mind.

Another thing is, people are losing interest of the site itself. Yes, inactivity is one thing as well as the eclipse for magic and most tech. But another thing is, It's getting old for some people. Nothing new or exciting. Nothing that actually interesting is going on. Cancellation of magic? Surewhynot. +Tech. It was coming. Everyone should know this. But in all reality, there is no excitement anymore for the people who were here almost the entire time. Just the same basic things: Invade, event, cancel this, killed, invade, war, and other stuff I don't care to list because I'm a lazy kitty.

I dunno, From what I know, SP has been really violent IC: LOLOLOLIVADE->WAR->LOL PEOPLE DIED/TOOK OVER PLANET/KILLED THE ENTIRE RACE C:

That's just me. As soon as this event ends, Maybe we should have other events planned instead of reusing ideas(like cancelling magic and the tournament)

I agree with this point about events.

If I may make a suggestion, from my limited knowledge, every threat the players have ever faced are some form of conscious enemy. That would be a great place to start mixing it up. A new type of threat will create a completely new reaction from players.

More than that, I'd have to look into the history of the site, but I'm guessing most of the events have been "crazy powerful being/race is doing bad stuff, possibly crazy powerful being/race is also doing good stuff, let's all paunch the bad guy!" Doesn't take twenty seconds to break that train of thought and throw in some actual variation for a change. Just sayin'.

Swift, please. They are taking out our empires for goodnesses sake. My empire uses electricity to power all of its stuff. Tech doesnt make you mortal but it severely cuts down on the options that we had! I suppose you dont exactly get this because your race is so primitive compared to par. We, however, have just had our communications cut, our ships and life support are down and we have no way to keep our empire connected. Without magic OR tech, our empires are crippled beyond imagining. AND thats just my organic empire. What about Hiro, whose Mechera use electronic systems to keep themselves in touch with the real world? If this 'event' goes into place then his characters are put into stasis, which is what I was going for in the other topic which you seemed not to realize.

^Still arguing that "you removed two things and it's now impossible to do anything". Man, sure is a shame I didn't just post an explanation for how to make all your tech work, then mock someone for ignoring that I typed all of that and complaining that he couldn't make all his tech work. Or that would make you look equally as stupid as Lyoko, right?
